I dunno if this really belongs in the Luthier's forum given the nature of the project: I'm not doing any serious woodwork myself. But it's my first attempt at getting a bass exactly the way I want and I'll probably be doing a lot of the more mundane tasks like mounting pickups and hardware.

The concept is a quasi-retro bass, inspired by the non-reverse Thunderbird. The body will be carved and finished for me by a builder yet to be determined (i've got estimates from a few people and awaiting a few more).

4 strings, fretted, bolt-on fenderish neck, blue translucent or dyed finish, everything else still up in the air.

First concept "sketch" (basically a quick photoshop job) - this is an actual thunderbird shape and not quite what I want yet:
