Picked up the special edition of the Who's documentary film "The Kids are Alright" on DVD
the other nite; the bonus DVD has isolated film
and audio of just John and his Alembic playing
"Baba O'Reilly" and "Won't Get Fooled Again" from
the live concert at Shepperton Studios a few
months before Keith died. These 2 features alone
are worth the $25 or so price tag, you really
get to hear John go at it on his Alembic Exploiter/Spider thingy bass. It just KILLS!
A few minor flubs and some notes hanging open
and stuff, but it's a great performance nonetheless. I always liked the live versions
of these songs from these sessions more than
the studio tracks; it's very cool. John burns
thru the songs with almost no emotion; takes
off his bass and calmly walks off stage....
Long live the Ox!
Cheers,
