It looks great and is moving quickly so far.... :D So far so good... If you don't like the new look don't worry - I'll be adding several 'style options' in the next week which will offer different color schemes, as well as the old post layout with user info on the left. tuBass 01-30-2004, 01:33 PM :D So far so good... If you don't like the new look don't worry - I'll be adding several 'style options' in the next week which will offer different color schemes, as well as the old post layout with user info on the left. so far so good, the screen seems wider than a standard 800 pixel screen, it has more horizontal scrolling required than I am used to. Is this on purpose? It will take me a while to get se to where everything is though. It's like moving into a new house. You know everything is there somewhere, but you don't know where to find it! Mark mark beem 01-30-2004, 01:35 PM Hey!! Looking good Paul!!!!! jammadave 01-30-2004, 02:01 PM fonts all too big! i have to back up to read! aaaaaaa! also, I can't change the font size, no matter what i set my browser to, they don't change. Seriously, I happen to need "tiny" as a font option, just because I like being able to read a lot without scrolling a lot, but people with 800x600 have to be hatin' life. Wil Davis 01-30-2004, 02:07 PM Nice job! Paul - I was starting to suffer from withdrawal symptoms (you know - practicing, socialising, getting out and exercising…) Thanks again! - Wil Wil Davis 01-30-2004, 02:50 PM Would it be possible to have a "Mark All Posts Read" at the "Search for new posts" level (as in the old bbs) rather than just at the very top of the bbs? - Wil paul 01-30-2004, 03:00 PM so far so good, the screen seems wider than a standard 800 pixel screen, it has more horizontal scrolling required than I am used to. Mark Looks Great! More like having a housekeeper and coming in and finding the place all cleaned up and having to look for things because they've been put away. I might never post but I sure did miss reading while the site was down. Cyn NJL 01-30-2004, 03:17 PM what are "public groups" or "group memberships" on a person's profile? pc 01-30-2004, 03:20 PM Hey! The new layout is beautiful! I haven't browsed all the new features, but so far i am quite impressed! Congrats, Paul! :bassist: rickbass 01-30-2004, 03:28 PM Everything you've done so far, Paul, has made TB a better place to "talk bass." I find the current upgrade to be no exception. tuBass 01-30-2004, 04:24 PM Screen width should be better now - let me know :) It's perfect now. I miss the old layout :bawl: Great update though :hyper: lbanks 01-30-2004, 04:46 PM What's a gold ssupporting membership? paul 01-30-2004, 05:19 PM What's a gold ssupporting membership? Coming soon. Will raise limits on avatar size, attachment quota, profile pic size, pm box size, etc. Need to work out a pricing schedule and upgrade scheme... Ben Mishler 01-30-2004, 05:25 PM This new layout looks quite good, but I like the old one too... A customization option seems like a good idea. paul 01-30-2004, 05:27 PM what are "public groups" or "group memberships" on a person's profile? This is a feature I'm not sure we'll implement. Basically, a user can join a group, maybe "7-Stringers" or something, to distinguish yourself. The group would have a leader(s) who would decide whether or not to accept the user into the group. What exactly the groups will be or if we'll use them at all I haven't decided yet :) lbanks 01-30-2004, 05:44 PM Coming soon. Will raise limits on avatar size, attachment quota, profile pic size, pm box size, etc. Need to work out a pricing schedule and upgrade scheme... Sounds Good, thanks. What exactly the groups will be or if we'll use them at all I haven't decided yet :) mmmmmmm.....a safe zone for TB Silly Geese! safe from birdshot and slugs......I'M IN!! OTOH, thanks for the reply! Mike Money 01-30-2004, 09:23 PM I hate it. HATE IT. Why does all the poster's info have to take up so much space? It was fine small and off to the side... It is way too cramped. Treena Foster 01-30-2004, 10:16 PM This is a feature I'm not sure we'll implement. Basically, a user can join a group, maybe "7-Stringers" or something, to distinguish yourself. The group would have a leader(s) who would decide whether or not to accept the user into the group. What exactly the groups will be or if we'll use them at all I haven't decided yet :) I like user groups, we could have a Fender Jazz user group, Jazz bass and nothing else but Jazz bass players, think of the possiblities! :hyper: HeavyDuty 01-30-2004, 10:56 PM Paul, I see comments in my forum about threads deleted by their originators. Are those comments visible to all, or just to the mod? allan grossman 01-31-2004, 07:25 AM It'd be a HUGE improvement, IMO, if the "Quick Reply" function was on by default. If you want to instead quote/reply you can push the appropriate button, and if not then there's no need to click. Just type and post. ... or can the button to activate the Quick Reply at least be moved to where the Quick Reply box is? Not stealing Paul's thunder, but I've been running vb3 on my own bass forum for a couple weeks. The quick reply button might wanna stay with the post because you can also view vb3 in threaded view - where you get one person's posts and all the replies to that post in order. If you play with it in your user CP you might see it - but in order for threaded view to work the system needs to know which post you're responding to. allan grossman 01-31-2004, 07:30 AM Paul, I see comments in my forum about threads deleted by their originators. Are those comments visible to all, or just to the mod? <horshack> Ooh, ooh! I know, I know! </horshack> Depends on forum settings - normally they're only available to mods and admins. Okay, I'm gonna shut up now and let Paul answer questions about his own forum - which looks outstanding, by the way. TB's upgrade wasn't for the fainthearted. Nino Valenti 01-31-2004, 08:46 AM I miss the old layout :bawl: Me too. Nino Valenti 01-31-2004, 08:52 AM Is it the case that all previous uploaded pics are gone? This kinda bothers me too. I had TONS of pictured of my beautiful basses & not theyr'e ALL GONE!!!!! :bawl: Couldn't you of just gotten rid of alot of the older pics & keep alot of the new pics? :crying: James Hart 01-31-2004, 09:06 AM :bassist: Looks Great Paul! Thanks! Bruce Lindfield 01-31-2004, 09:07 AM Is there any news on the huge white space above the posts - I find it incredibly irritating and each thread takes much longer to go through? So all the posts don't start until after the ads on the left and then take up more space - so each thread is spread over more pages and long threads are torture to navigate through!! :hmm: HeavyDuty 01-31-2004, 09:12 AM So all the posts don't start until after the ads on the left and then take up more space - so each thread is spread over more pages and long threads are torture to navigate through!! :hmm:(Note to self - effective method of Bruce torture...) ;) Bruce Lindfield 01-31-2004, 09:38 AM (Note to self - effective method of Bruce torture...) ;)I can't see the Top 20 posters list either - my claim to fame gone!! ;) It's all been done just to annoy me!! :D Seriously, the only problem I have with it is that it seems much slower than before - so each page waits an age to load up and then you are presented with loads of white space to scroll down and then 4 or 5 posts to a page!! Then you have to go to the next page and wait again!! :hmm: I'll come back in a few days and see if it's any better!! jammadave 01-31-2004, 09:44 AM so, uhh, how *do* you get a full-size image in a post - when i attached one it came up as a thumbnail in the post, but the posts before and after mine had fullsized guys. I tried the copy/paste thing from before but instead of getting the image i got a hyperlink to it, as if i had hit the URL button instead of the Picture button (but the tags were indeed IMG tags) thanks! forum lookin' good today at home on the wide monitor, still might be big-font city at work tho. lbanks 01-31-2004, 10:19 AM I think this is pretty nice. By using the TB2004(2 col psts), It retains the layout I like and have a color scheme I can read better than the old forum. The only thing I really dislike is the layout of the "Who's Online" page. I liked the smaller format of the old system, easier to read. I Don't seem to have any of the format problems I'm reading about. Maybe system/browser compatiblity probs. I'm running WinXP Pro/IE 6(latest update-1/19/04)/no JavaVM/high security/screen res-1024 x 768, 32bpp. DEFELDUS 01-31-2004, 12:51 PM just wanted to say great job paul! and the server seems to be moving so much faster now as well! :D paul 01-31-2004, 01:40 PM so, uhh, how *do* you get a full-size image in a post - when i attached one it came up as a thumbnail in the post, but the posts before and after mine had fullsized guys. Simply click a thumbnail to get the full image. All attached images generate thumbnails on the fly now. Saves bandwidth for large thread loads. paul 01-31-2004, 01:41 PM I hate it. HATE IT. Why does all the poster's info have to take up so much space? It was fine small and off to the side... It is way too cramped. Check the "2 column post" styles, located in the drop-down menu, lower left. paul 01-31-2004, 01:41 PM Paul, I see comments in my forum about threads deleted by their originators. Are those comments visible to all, or just to the mod? Should be just the mods. paul 01-31-2004, 01:44 PM This kinda bothers me too. I had TONS of pictured of my beautiful basses & not theyr'e ALL GONE!!!!! :bawl: Couldn't you of just gotten rid of alot of the older pics & keep alot of the new pics? :crying: Sorry, but as per the announcement that ran the week prior to the upgrade, all attachments had to be cleared. Attachments were taking over 2 gigs of space in our old database, and accounting for more than 1/3rd of my bandwidth charges, for the whole site(!) The new system puts in place a user quota - check the FAQ for more info. paul 01-31-2004, 01:45 PM I miss the old layout :bawl: Great update though :hyper: Layout meaning color scheme or post layout? If it's post layout you miss, check the "2 column post" styles in the drop-down menu at the lower left. jenderfazz 01-31-2004, 10:46 PM Paul, I'm using "Got the Blues (2 col psts)" and have experienced a slight problem. The same problem also occurs with the regular "Got the Blues" layout. Some links are white, and are practically invisible on the light grey backgrounds. For example, the "View Poll Results" link (on a poll you haven't voted on) can barely be seen. Also, when replying (not quickreply), the "Logged in as jenderfazz" text near the top has the same problem. The "jenderfazz" link is white and thus can't be seen properly. This might be a problem with my computer, but it definitely isn't a browser issue (it occurs with both Mozilla and IE 6.0. Take a look into it if you can. The layout looks great otherwise! Keep it up! :) Wolfehollow 02-01-2004, 10:48 PM I do not see a reply button in the private messages area... I might have missed it... any suggestions? Chris Fitzgerald 02-02-2004, 12:11 AM I hate it. HATE IT. Why does all the poster's info have to take up so much space? It was fine small and off to the side... It is way too cramped. Reading is fundamental - you should try it sometime. :) paul 02-02-2004, 08:58 AM I do not see a reply button in the private messages area... I might have missed it... any suggestions? For now it's a "quote" button that appears at the bottom of a PM. Will look into fixing that. paul 02-02-2004, 09:10 AM Paul, I'm using "Got the Blues (2 col psts)" and have experienced a slight problem. Keep it up! :) Thanks - I think i fixed it... paul 02-02-2004, 09:15 AM I'm not sure the Searches work properly. If I use the quick search to find threads I've posted in (I presume I do this by searching on "smash") I get one thing, which is quite differen than what I get if performing an "Advanced Search" for my username on "all open forums". In any case, both are wrong. The latter returns threads in something other then chronological order, or perhaps no order at all, and threads in which I've posted in the past 1/2 hour aren't included. SMASH, Doing a quick search searches the text of posts, so it'll return results in which a post contains your username (for example, if joe doe writes: "Hey SMASH, whatdaya think of..." Doing an advanced search for posts by yourself will return all threads in which you've participated in, and should be ordered by the thread's last modification date. I did a search for SMASH and I'm seeing threads which you've participated in, with the ones which were posted in today at the top. I'm not sure why the past 30 minutes is not included, but I suspect it is because this forum software delays a lot of database updates for optimization. paul 02-02-2004, 05:04 PM Just wanted to let y'all know the "legacy" style is nearly complete and is now selectable. Same color scheme/layout as the old forum, almost :). Metal Mitch 02-02-2004, 06:09 PM Thanks for the info... 2 col mode, now I get it, check. Supporting members now in bold, check. Everything was too... WHITE, switched to got the blues and now the white-on-white dialog box problem is gone, check. New ones - WSYWIG editor in got the blues mode sometimes has invisible cursor. And the smilies window in PM editor hangs in space half out of the editor box. The screenfonts still seem kinda big. Kind of annoying, but I use Opera so I just click size down and it's fine. 80% is a bit small, 90% is still a bit large but it's ok. 85% would be ideal. lilbassgirl 02-02-2004, 06:15 PM not exactly sure how i like it yet....its cool, but the colors seem to be too dull to me. meh..o well! nice job:) John Deppel 02-03-2004, 02:36 AM The new site upgrade looks absolutely great Paul. Keep up the good work! TB is the best Bass Forum on the Net IMO... paul 02-07-2004, 07:22 PM Since I wrote the above, the search has only returned chronological results for about an hour. Is anyone else having this problem? Smash, I'm honestly not sure what sort of algorithm the advanced search uses for a username search result order. I've never gotten a chronological result set. I'll dig through the code sometime... You are choosing the 'find all posts by user' option, and not, 'find threads started by user', right (drop-down menu in advanced search)? If you want to find your posts, the better method seems to be to click on your username, or view your profile, and select 'find all posts by user'. I get a chronologically ordered result set every time that way - whacker 02-12-2004, 02:50 PM Like it, love it, can't live without it! A couple of minor things: Used to be when I'd access the site, I was automatically logged on, nothing manual to do, and the "Most recent posts" deal was on the home page (which I kinda liked). I now log in manually, but even with the "Remember me" box checked, it never remembers. Any suggestions/explanations? Thanks! paul 02-12-2004, 05:26 PM Like it, love it, can't live without it!
