I would like to purchase something that I can begin recording my sessions with friends and possibly live shows. I already have an adequate 16-track mixing board and a small selection of mics. What I'm not sure of is the system that I should use for recording. I would like to be able to record 12 - 16 tracks simultaneously. And I would like to be able to do this from one unit, not a chain of ADAT's or Tascam's. I have looked into the Tascam MX-2424 but I'm not sure about the price tag. The new Mackie HDR24/96 also seems impressive, but I'm not sure that I like the interface on it. I've also contemplated the MOTU 1296. And if necessary, I wouldn't mind getting a system like the Yamaha AW4416HD. However, I haven't read too many reviews on these systems since they are all relatively new. I would appreciate any hands-on, real world experience that any of you might have. I also have the links here for those of you who share my interests:

I don't have any experience but have been surfing a lot of recording sites (magazine and discussion forums) because I'm going to get a Mac with Protools Digi 001.

The Yamaha AW4416 is getting pretty good reviews. Nothing is perfect. Also, there is a discussion board for it somewhere and that should be of help. Check outhttp://www.crmav.com/enews/yamaha_debuts_all_in_one_recording_solution_with_a w4416_professional_audio_workstation.shtml

Go to http://www.sospubs.co.uk/, click on "forum" in upper right corner, then click on "SOS Discussion Forums", then "Music and Recording Technology". Scroll down to the thread on the Yamaha project.
