I'd like to share with you this guy's double bass project (http://www.un-art.org/lutherie/cbsse/cbsse01.html). The story is that last august, when every store was closed during summer holidays - including luthiers, he wanted to play double bass. So he made one for himself in five days. There's a sound sample on the last page...

if he pulled it up to the right pitch it might sound better

5 days? Why'd it take so long? This is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. I'm still laughing from listening to the MP3. :D

As goofy as the thing is, you gotta admire the guy's get-to-it quality. He's not waiting around for everything to be perfect -- or even nice! -- before he gets going. The thing sounds better than a lot of acoustic bass guitars I've played.

Probably a waste of time to advise him to get a teacher for the thing...

Well, maybe a woodshop teacher...just to show him how to countersink those neck bolts.
