ThePaste 04-14-2001, 03:59 PM Ummmmmm, any preferencess??????? Learn these songs |edit|by Primus|edit: <underline>When the Toys go Winding Down Frizzle Fry The Awakening</underline> Well that should start you off. Cpt_Llama 04-14-2001, 05:09 PM any style of music would be helpful CanadianBassGuy 04-14-2001, 05:17 PM Gone Away by offspring is pretty easy Load Me Up, Hello Time Bomb and Symbolistic White Walls by Matthew Good Band are really easy too. Or if you dont want a challenge, go with brain stew by green day, its the same 5 notes over and over. JMX 04-14-2001, 05:34 PM Anything by The Police Jake15 04-14-2001, 09:46 PM Blink 182 songs are really easy if you use a pick! merlin 04-15-2001, 04:37 AM Originally posted by Jake15 Blink 182 songs are really easy if you use a pick! Shouldn't it be "They are just Easy"??? three chords and all, like isn't that the max requirement for punk? lol Merls Sheep Man 04-15-2001, 05:40 AM That Thing You Do from the movie by the same name, Zombie by The Cranberries, and Good Riddance by Green Day are all pretty easy. They're the first ones I learned to play. :p There's a bunch of other easy songs I know, I'm just a tad too tired to think of them right now. :p ThePaste 04-15-2001, 11:05 AM Originally posted by Sheep Man [i]Good Riddance by Green Day Isn't that a solo acoustic guitar piece? Sheep Man 04-15-2001, 11:17 AM Originally posted by ThePaste Isn't that a solo acoustic guitar piece? Well, from my understanding there's the 'normal' solo acoustic guitar piece version, but there's also a full-band version. It wasn't my idea to play the song. The guitarist wanted to play it, and he just told me the chord changes, and I was set. As with most Green Day songs, it's still just root notes. :D Of course, now that I've been playing for a year instead of a week, I'm sure I could add my own little flavor to it... :D dancehallclasher 04-15-2001, 12:54 PM dude, have you been listening? most green day basslines are not just root notes. anyway, easy songs... i think "break stuff" by limp bizkit is like two chords, i bet it's easy. RockFiend 04-15-2001, 11:28 PM altough i hate most new age punk, i must say Green Day's bassist plays inverts and walk downs alot sso its not just root notes, i'll give him sum credit,,, anyways sum good songs to learn,, and these aren't jsut easdy they are also fun and exciting to paly so u get interested in ur abss,,, who wants to ride notes like E A G,, whats the point? anyways here goes- Daytripper (Beatles), My Sharona (The Knack) Down on the Corner (Creedence Clearwater Revival or CCR) and Longcview by Greenday if your into them, and once you get faster with your fingering try Tom Sawyer by Rush or Sweet Emotions by Aerosmith, but the greatest fuirst song to learn,,, as I know many have-- Money by Pink Floyd Sheep Man 04-16-2001, 05:58 AM Ok fine. So most of Green Day's basslines aren't just root notes...I don't actually listen to them, but all the songs my band's wanted to play by them were just root notes. Oh well, my bad. :o Cpt_Llama 04-16-2001, 08:45 AM thanks guys this should help me get started Funky Dung 04-16-2001, 12:59 PM Originally posted by RockFiend but the greatest fuirst song to learn,,, as I know many have-- Money by Pink Floyd That's was my second. :) I started two weeks ago. The night I bought my bass I tought myself "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" by Pink Floyd. It's easy as hell but it sounds nice. The next night I started working on "Money". I've got it mostly nailed. Now I use it as a warmup before I practice. I try to play it as fast as my fingers can muster. I really enjoy songs in which the bass is really a driving force. Root note repetitions drive me nuts, but at least they fill out the lower freqs. Spartan bass lines like in "Free Falling" by Tom Petty are painfully boring to play. [/two cents' worth] patrickroberts 04-17-2001, 03:26 PM These are bands who have easy bass tabs; Oasis Wheatus Blink 182 Manic Street Preachers Stereophonics The Verve ..........Any thing kind of Brit-pop or punky is simple! I also found this pic and thought it was amusing! old_skool 04-18-2001, 12:26 AM ok as a bassist i think it is almost required to know how to play " another on bites the dust ". David-Adler 04-18-2001, 05:13 AM Try "So What" by Metallica. Pretty Simple, but sounds cool.. David EmuKing 04-18-2001, 10:19 AM Originally posted by Funky Dung That's was my second. :) I started two weeks ago. My first full song to play on the bass! Komakino 04-18-2001, 02:35 PM I second "Zombie" by The Cranberries....that's one of the first one's I learnt. How about "Should I stay or should I go" by The Clash and just about anything by Nirvana....learn "Polly", that's pretty cool and really easy. mr. baggins 04-18-2001, 02:53 PM try crossfire by stevie ray vaughn. pretty easy but grooves like all their songs. Blackbird 04-19-2001, 12:19 PM Old Steely Dan tunes are pretty straightforward. Will C. ahh_the_madness 04-24-2001, 10:15 PM the first song i learned was "million miles away" by offspring.. its easy but sounds cool and it eases you into more difficult stuff..... duff_hodges 04-25-2001, 10:46 AM Try some stuff by Bryan Adams E.g. The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me and Summer Of '69. Oasis stuff is pretty simpe but you are most likely going to get bored playing it. RockFiend 04-26-2001, 07:00 PM I would have said that Oasis basslines were 'boring' of there old bassist Guigsy, but on the new album- Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, the basslines are quite fun actually, try 'Go Let it Out' from the new album as a fun little riff FeTiS 04-26-2001, 08:24 PM most nirvana is pretty simple, but they have a few difficult songs for a new bassist to play(lounge act, love buzz), but still good. blink 182 also good for learning, but boring as hell once you've played for more than 2 weeks. Usul 04-30-2001, 11:28 PM Here are some pretty simple but fun songs to work on! :) I will buy you a new life Father of mine Santa Monica ....all by Everclear Walking on the Moon....by The Police Fields of Gold....by Sting Zombie Linger .....by The Cranberries Glyserine Everything Zen ...by Bush Teenage Dirtbag...by Wheatus December...by Collective Soul Tainted Love....by Soft Cell Name ....by The GooGoo Dolls Truely,Madly,Deeply ...by Savage Garden(the girls LOVE that one! :D ) Fire,Water,Burn ...by The Bloodhound Gang The Kids are`nt Alright Have you Ever?...by The Offspring Hope that helps!! :) Usul CrawlingEye 05-01-2001, 12:54 AM Learn "London Dungeon" By the misfits. Very easy bassline, but good practice. Gekobrain 05-01-2001, 03:18 AM I agree with JMX, with anything by the Police. Try Roxanne, Message In a bottle, and Walking on the Moon. *ToNeS* 05-01-2001, 06:39 AM "Road Trippin'" by the chili peppers is a fun little groove that sounds kind of complex but really isn't ... "Shimmer" by Fuel has a really easy bass line that sounds really good. "Longview" by Green Day is almost a requirement these days :) "Self-Esteem" and "Dirty Magic" by the Offspring have some really fun riffs, the latter being the first song i learnt on bass. oh, and almost all of Rage Against The Machine's songs, although some of them are a bit hard (particularly "Take The Power Back" if you're a newbie to the low-end side), but try 'em out anyway. groooove on, brudda :D CrawlingEye 05-01-2001, 01:50 PM Speaking of Greenday, "When I Come Around"'s a good one to learn, it's good for hammer-on's and pull-off's. Same with "I Wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones. Except "I Wanna Be Sedated" helps you learn how to stay with the song after a hammer-on/pull-off. PasterofMuppets 05-01-2001, 02:08 PM I started out playing verses to songs that I knew. The first one I learned was self esteem by the offspring, the second Ironman by Black Sabbath. Try things you listen to a lot. I'm a huge Metallica fan, so I got into that quick, and while I wouldn't call myself a really good bass player, I can play some challenging songs. Also, on this site, go to the misc tab sections, and impress all your friends by playing the X-Files theme.. heheh..have fun BizzMarc 05-01-2001, 02:12 PM The first song i learned was MetallicA's "For Whom The Bell Tolls" its still the only one i can play thru. I also learned the bass doodle from the "Cunning Stunts" video from MetallicA |
