I've never seen a post on this, so here goes....I was called back about a month ago to play with some old band members and since I play by ear my whole life (keyboard , guitar and bass) I take a little tape recorder and set it in the back of the room (large) and record the new material, then take it home and rehearse with it during the week and hopefuly am ready for the next session. I sem to be prone to repetition to get things right and also to be be calm and comfortable when I play. Does anyone else use this method? is there a better way? or am I just brain dead.....:)

I use it all the time. It works great for me though I sometimes find myself getting locked into the same patterns. You want to play with the tape, not like the tape.
