paintandsk8 04-16-2005, 06:33 PM woohoo, somebody finally replied to my thread. I know there's some more of you that have pictures of your eub's. Let's see em!
Mudfuzz 04-16-2005, 07:49 PM Here's mine.
#1 is full sized, and here (http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=130475) is a thread about it.
#2 Is a travel EUB I made this last august: 30" scale, 32" overall length, maple and padauk. Took around 7-8 hour to build it.
Mudfuzz 04-16-2005, 07:53 PM Also the fingerboards and necks on both basses are made from the same two pieces of wood.
bassteban 04-16-2005, 07:59 PM My long-running 5 string EUB project(2 of them actually)has a similar body to #1 above, but much less symetrical- kind of a singlecut. That travel bass is cool!

I've been thinking of doing something like this. What kind of tuning setup and strings are you using on it?
My long-running 5 string EUB project
Bassteban, your a stay at home dad w/ a fresh $500 in your pocket. Your running out of excuses for not finishing these EUB's! :D
And let's see some more EUB's!

True, but the $500 paid back bank-of-old-lady-a(almost rhymes w/Bank-of-America)for Natrab's old D-180. I found some used strings(4- thanx, Basschair), but a matching new low B is gonna whack me for 70 bones! Then there's tuners, preamp, pickups... I just had to go 5 string...
BTW, how's the bike?
mikjans 04-17-2005, 04:17 AM Here´s the link to (one of) mine:

I also have a ca 1960 Grazioso Arco in need of restoration and a 90s custom built EUB by Swedish luthier Bent Jensen. But the one shown is the workhorse.

Quick & dirty goes the tuning setup, but it works, so hey. Right now I have a real old set of cheap factory strings that came with my DB on it, they actually sound ok on this bass where as on my DB and other EUB they sounded like crap.
I still haven't found a pickup that I am happy with for this bass though, so far they all pickup to much playing noise. So I will probably have to either make a bridge with a built in pickup or go magnetic.
boogiebass 04-17-2005, 05:40 PM My recent commission from Pete Hanewinckel is depicted here:

toonman 04-23-2005, 01:27 AM here are some pictures of my first project. I love this thing.
Bloodwood, maple, and ebony woods
41.5 inch scale
K&K pure preamp that I had to rewire to fit
K&K double big twin pick-up mounted on the side and bottom of the bridge
GOTOH Machine heads
Pearl tom stand
D'Addario hybrid strings
high gloss tungoil finish
and lots of cutting, gluing, filing, and sanding you can't see.
*NEW* I just got done rearranging the piezo pups, 4 total. I put two on the bottom of the bridge and two on the sides of the bridge with a switch for each set. The ones on the bottom works best for pizz playing and the ones on the sides works best for arco. never sounded better.

Bob McHenry 05-04-2005, 03:54 PM Here are two pictures of my other EUB -
mikjans 05-04-2005, 04:44 PM Bob,
Really great looking basses you have - who made them?!
Mikael
Francois Blais 05-04-2005, 07:58 PM My newer EUB -
Very nice! (the blonde one too!)
Does it use a Fishman Full Circle?
Is it short scale?
The blonde seems 3/4 scale, and uses two Bass Max pickups?
Thanks!
Mudfuzz 05-05-2005, 12:42 AM Digging those basses very much Bob!
This tread should be stickied.
wneff 05-13-2005, 10:02 PM Well, I think everyone has seen that one before.
Still, I'm super happy with my new toy!
Wolfram
paintandsk8 05-13-2005, 10:21 PM no worries - it's always good to see real world shots of basses, instead of perfect lighting, perfect finish, perfect wood, manufacturer photos.
Bob - that second one is one of the classiest looking EUB's I have seen to date.
bassteban 05-13-2005, 10:48 PM But hey, I have the necks bolted on(yes, I said bolted on)& bodies & tops nearly complete. We have a new camera coming, too- so soon you'll all be saying, "I could do better..."
-about me this time! ;)
paintandsk8 05-13-2005, 11:22 PM man, I saw your name as the most recent reply to this thread, and I got all excited. Thanks alot. :D
bassteban 05-13-2005, 11:28 PM I think you'll dig 'em- I've had one mocked up & it actually rests comfortably in a seated position, although I intended for it to be played upright. Woops! Alright, I'll refrain from posting here til I have pics.
SebbyNC 05-16-2005, 02:28 PM Here is me playing with my new Palatino VE-500 paid $600. It was my first gig playing 100% the upright bass (a short one though, only 1 hour).
paintandsk8 05-16-2005, 03:53 PM wow, those things look alot bigger when someone actually is holding it.
SebbyNC 05-16-2005, 04:07 PM wow, those things look alot bigger when someone actually is holding it.
Yeah, but I'm only 4'9 tall... No, actually I'm 5'7... :D
Steve Clark 05-17-2005, 07:40 PM Well, I think everyone has seen that one before.

I have the same NS and and an iAMP as well. How does the NS sound through the EA cab?
Bassius 06-02-2005, 01:21 AM http://www.ida.net/users/bassius/MEU7.jpg
yes there are 7 strings
ToneRanger 06-02-2005, 01:48 AM Just one more string and it would be a real "double bass"!
What's with the block on the back?
Does it have an end pin?

for more on that ;)
nysbob 06-05-2005, 10:37 AM This is my 'signature model" Clevinger (chuckle). It started off being a 5 string opus, then I had Martin do some serious mods, including a mag pickup, blended output switchable to separate outputs for both pickups, and the bridge guard...

It sound really good. I set up the equalizer for the 5-string bass guitar and when I switch to EUB I roll off treble and bass on the EUB, and it sounds pretty good. Not quite like an acoustic bass, but good with a different character. Very distinguished from a bass giutar and the bowed sound is a killer.

bassteban 11-24-2005, 11:13 PM A friend agreed to trade me a nice used dirt bike for the EUB, if I ever finish it. :hyper: I have a completely harebrained idea for the 'pickup'. More to follow(not-terribly-famous last words...).
ToneRanger 11-28-2005, 09:22 PM It's been in another thread but I'll put the link here too so it's in good company:
www.fittell.id.au/eub
I worked on the design with Bill Paulin and made the preamp/pickup but Bill did all the woodwork.
Had its first real outing last week - I was planning to play BG in a recording session but took along the EUB to show the other guys. Once it was plugged in they insisted I use it for all the tracks. Awesome fat sound straight into the desk, no eq needed.
Since the pics were taken I've made a removable shoulder extension - I don't need it for pizz but it's essential for arco.
This one was a prototype. Bill is happy to take orders for more: $1500 Australian (complete with hardware, strings, pickup etc) or $800 (wood only - add your own tuners, electronics etc)
glivanos 11-28-2005, 09:55 PM Bought it about 5 years ago.
Got me back into playing jazz again.

I still have the same bass in red. Martin replaced the pickup with a Diamond Sonance Resonator and changed out that "Coleman' endpin (man that thing is heavy) for a newer design. That particular "bridge" really didn't sound all that good IMHO, but if you're happy with it then more power to you. Your bass was built in San Francisco by Able Tech and has the nicest neck and heel I've ever seen on a EUB. Thumb position is a dream because you have a real heel on the back of the neck to guide you into it. It also has the deluxe preamp, I had that as well but mine kept crappin out, so I had it replaced.
Ric
Duuuuuuuuuude 12-01-2005, 03:24 AM Hey Aaron, That's a very interesting design for the short scale. I cant really tell from the photo where the fingerboard ends. It looks like the end of the fingerboard is used as the bridge. Can you post some more pics?
Thanks!
glivanos 12-01-2005, 10:31 AM Hey Ric,
I do like the sound of that bridge and so do my band members, so I'm going to let it go for now.
I have contacted Jennifer at Clevinger about a updated bridge and stand upgrade.
You are right about the stand, what a pain in the you know what. I just don't know the best way to ship to them for the upgrade. Do I need to send the whole bass to them or just the body? How did you do it?
If you'd like, PM me so we don't clutter this thread up with this.
Thanks,
George
Mudfuzz 12-05-2005, 03:31 AM Duuuuuuuuuude has ask me to post a few more shoots of my Wee-EUB from a bridge-istic point of vew, so here they are.
liam_g 12-07-2005, 04:41 PM I don't have a good closeup of my BSX ST-4 yet, but here's a not-so-great shot of me playing it at a gig with Holly Figueroa:
http://www.liamgraham.com/images/menholly2.jpg
Note the extra-long endpin ... I'm 6'4" and had to go buy a 3-foot long 5/8" diameter steel rod to raise the thing high enough to play ... man, I wish I could find an aluminum one, 'cause that steel one is *heavy*!
Anyway, that gig was my first playing upright or eub in 15 years, and I had only had the BSX for 2 weeks prior to the gig. Had to adjust from bg very fast. It went really well, though, and three other artists who were on the bill that night are interested in using me when they tour the region again ...
thebeatcatcher 03-27-2006, 06:01 PM here's one of mine from another forum:

and here's an audio clip (the fourth one down):

let me know what you think, i know the whole thing is kind of crude, but i'm kind of into that.
Gasp! 03-28-2006, 03:03 AM And here is mine. I hesitated between an ergo or an Aria SWB Lite One, so I decided to contact a luthier and here is the resulthttp://usera.imagecave.com/Gaspard/EUB_2_72.jpg
mikjans 03-28-2006, 04:06 AM A tremendously cool design! Who built it? What kind of pickup does it have?
Mikael
Gasp! 03-28-2006, 04:23 AM It's Denis Favrichon, a swiss luthier:
www.denis-f.ch
the website is not terrible, but you can see his folding (?) DB.

I have a FWF piezo.
