Single humbucker Bongo, of course.

No, really - ask Sterling Ball.

He's dedicated to polka.

I was thinking a P pup since polka starts with P, but a fat humbucker like a MusicMan pickup might be more appropriate for songs like the "She's Too Fat For Me."

I've found that pickups matter much less than your amp setup. Forgo solid state and grab a nice warm tuba amp.

Tip your server, I'll be here all week. :D

man, i never did figure out how to get those killer tones on hits like "they're always in the way" and "in heaven there is no beer" :hmm:

The group I record in my studio..(Fritz's Polka Band),uses a hofner...the fancy version of McCartney's,and it sounds great.
They do pretty well, having shot a scene in the 'Manchurian Candidate'..a live outdoor performance...it didn't make the cut tho'...it is in the deleted scenes of the DVD,and our recording Paramount used isn't bad.

My brush with fame :(

um pah, um pah, um pah pah.

Here's my vote for best pickup for polka music. It's a bit heavier than some other pickups, but definitely nails that groovy polka vibe.

Hard to go wrong with a good Precision bass!

Heck, anything will work. I saw an old dude playing one of those "rail" (Westone?) basses on the "Big Joe Polka Show" recently.
