Yes, the holiday where people around the world go mad and get totally wasted, because it's what the Irish "do", and since their aunt's cousin 2ce removed once ate a potato, that means they're Irish too! While most of us over here sit at home and watch the parade on telly.

Despite my despisement of this holiday, I know for some reason celebrating the life of a Welshman means something to the non-Irish out there! Have a happy and safe St. Patrick's Day!

Aye to be sure! :smug:

My Pat was at home today "recovering" from laser surgery to remove a skin cancer. Which was probably a good thing, 'cos if he'd been at work today I would have given him St Pat's hell.

"I'm not no-one's bloody saint!" :p

I'm just about to learn the last bloody song for my St. Patty's day one off gig. Should be a blast actually, I'm playing for an internationally touring celtic punk band. For some reason Ottawa especially goes absolutely INSANE for this holiday too, it's an hours lineup to get into the bars usually starting at about 10am.

My suname is 'Flynn' - minus the obligatory 'O' - as in O' Flynn - so I supose I should be celebrating - but I have a rehearsal tonight - so it'll just be the two bottles of wine and some Guinness then...

Six out of eight great grandparents here. And my middle name is Padraig. Is there a point value assigned?

And for anyone who feels a need to laugh at me, even though I think of Ireland as sort of my ancestral homeland, I don't actually know where in Ireland any of my family members came from. I do know some are from County Cork, some from County Down, and I think one from Kerry, but I'm not sure of that. And I couldn't tell you which actual towns for any of them except the last to arrive in America, my paternal Grandfather sailed from Bantry.

I HATE St. Patricks day.

All of a sudden, all the white kids are very very irish.

The girl next to me was all of a sudden "27%" Irish... so i was like "Oh... yer kinda irish?"

She got all mad and yelled at me for insulting her "heritage"

I hate it. I hate it. I hate it.

Am I irish? Yes, a wee bit. Way back when... no point in even doing the math.

I'm probably as Irish as i am Comanche Indian... and i think im commanche from my great great grandma who was some fraction of it...

This holiday should stay in Ireland, because white kids are stupid and the majority of us can't get over the fact that most of us are nothing but MUTTS.

thats right... if you are white, your probably a mutt. You are probably a german-jewish-french-italian-russian-native american-irish-scottish mutt.

I'm a mutt. I can deal with that. Now, all you other idiot caucasions who like to be "27%" irish for a day, shut up and take pride in your mutt qualities.

Mr. Money, I think for once we are in agreement.

As far as I know, pretty much the whole western world is a bit Irish. We infested ye, it was all part of our evil ploy to make money out of it, and it's working!

The amount of Americans, English, Australians, Europeans (mainland Europeans for you nit-pickers) that come over here and spend buckets of money during this week is amazing! And it's brilliant for the retailers and government!

Not for me though, not only does it mean I have to deal with 100,000 drunken Corkonions, I have to deal with an equal amount of pseudo-Irish foreigners also whenever I want to go into town.

Anyway, St. Patrick was Welsh. Can't we all be Welsh for a day and, em... (what does a stereotypical Welshman do?! Sing?) ;)

But all that aside, if you were celebrating last night, I hope you had a safe and fun night.

:) Thanks. To everyone celebrating: if you don't understand this, and don't feel 100 emotions flooding through you as you read it, please rethink the reasons why you are celebrating, and do a little more research into our history.

800 years people, and it's still going on.

Peace (if only).

Dan.

Goin' to a local Irish pub to have a few with a bunch of exchangies today - yes, I know it was yesterday, but local pub decided that friday evening for the main event would suit them better.

I can honestly say that I'm 0% Irish, as probably are the rest of the bunch, but if there's live folk music and pints of stout to down, any excuse eh?

One of my co-workers asked me what the big deal about St Pat's day was. She said "What's up with everybody drinking like it's New Year's Eve?"

I told her it was like cinco de mayo for white people. She nodded and said 'Now it makes sense.'

Closer My God to Thee? (I believe that's a Welsh hymn) ;)

Tsal, if you got to an Irish pub on/near St. Paddy's day that's good enough for me. It's the thought that counts. ;)

To everyone non-Irish, when your day comes up, please start a thread about it so we can all share and learn about your roots. :)

I have a little saint paddys day story, here it goes. Me and five friends from work decided we were all going to go to lunch on St. paddy's day and not come back. We ended up at the Four Peak's brewery in Tempe Az and preceded to dring ourselves into oblivion. Now mind you, I had no intentions of getting so blitzed out of my mind, but you know how it goes, sh*t happens. In all actuality,I have not gotten that drunk in years, but anyway nine pints ( beer ranging from 5.5% to 7.1% alcohol) and four Irish car bombs ( 1 shot of Baileys, 1 shot of Bushmills dropped into 4oz. of stout and slammed) later, I was ready for a ride home. Well so what your saying, you got drunk and went home........ ahhhhh, but it doesn't end there. Sometime between the hours of eight and ten P.M. I got on the internet, pulled out my credit card, logged onto basscentral and ordered a brand new Roscoe Lg 3000. When I got up the next morning I did not remember doing so, I only saw my credit card out of my wallet and the computer still on with the website still up. So I call them up and sure enough they tell me the bass will ship on Monday. It is now Friday and I am playing my new Roscoe................one more thing, I am also in the dog house for ordering it, but that's o.k. as long as I can take my bass with me. ;)
