Hello,
I've been playing different instruments for more then 15 years.
My question simply put. Is it normal to have to pain during and
after playing.
I'm not in the best of shape but it's an instrument right ?

I would love to play with a bow all the time but after a half hour or
so. I just can't go on .

I'm 6 feet tall 240 pounds 36 years old. I have worked with a teacher that showed
me the proper stance and holding of the bow. I sure this isn't the
problem.

I've been playing for 5 years mostly bluegrass and
After a show I feel like I just been beat up.

The only thing I can think of is I don't play every day.

If I play every day just a little will this go away ?

have any of you had a problem like this ?
Thanks for any help
John

It could be a number of things; poor setup, bad technique, playing with tension, bad posture...

The best thing to do would be to get yourself in front of a bass player that has worked out all of the above and see if he can notice anything amiss.

Where's the pain? Knowing if it is hand, back, wrist, etc. might help someone help you.

I have found very few teachers who can accurately assess tension problems. Don't assume that, because someone plays well and can show you how to hold the bow, that they also can show you how to play without tension. Fill out your profile. We may be able to give you suggestions for teachers in your area.

Thanks for the feed back ,
I'm sorry I didn't mention were the pain was.
My lower Back mostly.
Then My Left Hand that first postion kills me after awhile.

When I have my bass set up . I usally get to same reponse.
" That's not a bad hight for what your doing "

Are there different rules about action with the DB ?
All of my other fretted string instruments ( GTR. ,Elec.Bass, Banjo )
follow some basic guidlines about setting the string hight.

So where on the fret board should I messaure
And do you know what an avage string hight is ?
