i might have missed this on the website, but is the body a hollowbody?

Good question, Superbassman. It is a chambered body, which is different from a hollowbody as you likely know.
The body construction is three pieces of wood--a front and back and the middle section, which is about an inch thick. the core piece has areas in it which are removed, creating the chambers between the front and back.

Chambered bodies are not new; I take no credit for that. What happens to bass notes, however, when they are treated to the sonic possibilities in a body this size that is not dampened against the player's body, is what all these forum guys are talking about when the subject of Tone comes up.

ok, cool, because i like the bass, and one thing i like about uprights basses is the purcussive ability of them, you know, just hitting the body in the right spots, and you can get some pretty neat effects! I was wondering if you could do that with these basses

Superbassman asked about the percussive upright effects possible with a BVB. If what you mean is a rockabilly-style slap, I couldn't really speak to that since I don't play in that style.
However, I do find that I can closely mimic the sound of pizzicato upright string attack if I use more of the flesh on my plucking fingers (not the tips), play lightly, and place my right hand farther up on the bass so that the string has a wider "bounce" to it.

i meant that i like to tap the body so it goes "thud!" i like to add that to my playing, since i also use a looper, i can add a purcussive aspect to my loops, which is cool!

and i do realize that a hollowbody isn't the only factor that will make a thud audible on a recording, i'd probably need a more microphonic pickup, but i can get those!

yeah I know what your talking about with adding the percussive sound. I use that on my looper too, but since I use a regular guitar, beating the strings does the job.

Just a random question for Superbassman2000 what kind of looper do you use, I have found I have very unhappy with mine.

My two are just a scosch under two inches deep.

Pete's unerring measuring ability has been borne out again; they are a smidge and a half under 2". I checked the site and the best side shot is under "features." Check the one on the bench, hovered over by the hairless craftsman.
