Hey guys !

I recently got hired by a studio to write and record bass tracks for a guys cd. I'm wondergin what is the best way to approach writing the music, as in should I jsut start jamming with it, or try to plan out the chorus and verse parts and then write lines for those parts (its all acoustic guitar and vocals at the moment)?

Thanks in advance!

I would think about contrast between chorus and verse patterns. Contrast creates more interest in the composition.

Another consideration is the Style of the bassline. 4 basic styles include root note, areppegio, riff pattern, or walking bass. There is also syncopated styles as well like reggae, samba, funk, etc.

You could also create a Hook pattern that ties in with the vocal melody. A hook pattern can be between 1 and 4 bars.
