I've had an overdose of Dixon in my days, but he is definately more solid than Jack Meyers. But with Buddy in the band Meyers is a the man. Buddy + Jack = adventure.

This band would be very strange:

My ultimate "Magic Band"
Captain Beefheart (Magic Band)- Vocals, Harmonica, Sax, Bass Theremin, Musette, etc.
John "Drumbo" French (Magic Band)- Vocals, Drums, Guitars, Bass, etc.
Art "Ed Marimba" Tripp (Magic Band)- Vocals, Drums, Marimba, etc.
Tony Williams (Lifetime, Miles Davis)- Drums, Percussion (NO VOCALS)
Jack Bruce (Lifetime, Cream)- Vocals, Cello, Double Bass, Electric Bass, Organ, etc.
Roy Wood (The Move, Wizzard, ELO)- Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Bagpipes, French Horn, Sax, Drums, etc.
John Cale (The Velvet Underground)- Vocals, Electric Viola, Bass, Guitar, Piano, Organ, etc.

My ultimate non Beefheart band. Titled Black Maria or some cheesy metal name like that which wouldn't indicate the band's quality at all.
Arthur Lee (Love)- Vocals, Harmonica, Tambourine, Acoustic Guitar
Dennis Dunaway (Alice Cooper)- Bass
Brian Downey (Thin Lizzy)- Drums
Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac)- Lead Guitar, Vocals
Booker T. Jones- Organ, Piano
Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull)- Vocals, Flute, Acoustic Guitar
Marc Bolan (T. Rex)- Vocals, Guitar
Mike Ratledge (Soft Machine)- Fuzz Organ
Jon Lord (Deep Purple)- Organ, Piano
Steve MacKay (The Cat who played on half of the Stooges' Fun House)- Sax.

You know this would be the best big band ever.

__________________

Funny I read John Zorn... I'm listening to Naked City right now! They are basically where Fantomas get's there sound from already and Patton kind of steals a ton of stuff Zorn already did vocally. Fun none the less..

Here's what I have

Drums: Chris Penne (Dillenger Escape Plan) @ Ken Schalk (Candiria)
Bass: Michael MacIvor (Candiria)
Sax/flute/duck calls/mini tapes: John Zorn
Keys: Rachmaninoff

It'd be different, bring Rachmaninoff back from the dead, let him futz with technology. He's one of the most talented composers/ pianists to ever have lived. Then match him up with the drumming capabilities of Chris Penne and ken Schalk and think how intense the percussion section would be! John Zorn is a nut when it comes to interesting free lance jazz/ noise and is quite trained classically as well. Michael MacIvor is a really good bassist who doesn't follow the conventional role of the bass.

It's be something to ponder.

Peace

I would quite enjoy an acoustic band comprised of:

Vocals: Tony Kakko (of Sonata Arctica)

Not sure what drummer, although I highly doubt they'd need one. Regardless, I think it'd be pretty amazing, especially hearing the work Hedges and Manring did together.

...Group 2
bass-Les Claypool
guitars-Adrian Belew
keys-Rachel Z
violin-Mari Bin Ari
drums-Stewart Copeland

That's probably closer than most. Les plays with both Stewart and Adrian... they should all get together! But, you gotta wonder with some of these groups, with all that flash bang going on, would it be enjoyable or just ridiculous!?

My votes:

Power trios
Flea
Zappa
Bonham

Claypool
Belew
Bruford
(wouldn't be hard to hook these guys up!)

Supergroup
Hendrix
Wooten
Hancock
Tim Alexander
Mike Patton
Aretha Franklin

...ok, that's really quite wierd... but while I'm at it, why not add:

Coltrane!

Mmmmm, sprinkles!

MeShelle, Torn and Calhoun perform occasionally in New York as Plane with MeShelle doing some keys and vox. Don't know if they recorded.

I was in NY in January of '05. Harriett Tubman, KIF and Masque all performed. At the end of the night Vernon, Fuze and Melvin played a Decoding Society song with KIF's drummer. Then Rickman came in and sat in. Steve Jenkins eventually sat in on bass.
