Okay, y'all, this doesn't happen very often, but it looks like I am going to have the house to myself the weekend of Feb 24-26th, 2006! So, I can't think of anything better to do than to make some noise with by bottom-dwelling buds. :D

I am up for having people stop by any time from Friday night through Sunday afternoon. Talking to some folks, it seems like Friday night is better for some, while Saturday night is better for others. I can do both. Heck, I live here! :p My house is no castle (and is in fact quite meager, relative to my bass gear collection), and I guarantee it to be very cluttered with kids toys, etc. But, there is ample room for people to crash, and I would welcome people to do so. Especially people who like single malt scotch. ;)

So, if you can make it, please respond to this thread and let me know. Please also tell me when you hope to be here, and whether or not you will be staying over.

The password (passphrase, really) to get in is "All hail the mighty Sadowsky SA200, I do not doubt its virtues!" :p

Hope to see lots of you later this month!

Tom.

I'm tentatively in. Trying to work it out with my wife based on some family plans we're also trying to work in this month, which I hope will fall on either this weekend or next, leaving the 24th open. We'll see. If I'm able to come, I'll definitely be bringing my Marilyn, and at least one other bass.

I'll be there Friday evening for sure. I have a gig Saturday, so probably won't be able to make it then. Can't wait to meet everyone that makes it! Yea verily, I have seen the magic that is the SA200! Tom and I also have another bout of GAS coming simultaneously, but that's for later!

I'll try to make it. Friday is probably better for me, too, assuming nothing pops up. Obviously, I don't need to be bringing any amps, but i might drag my modded Marcus Miller (I'll be real interested to see how it stacks up agains cheeze's DJ4, as they'be both got the same vibe going, ash jazz with Aeros.) and maybe my Tacoma, if anyone is interested. I could bring my BBE/QSC rig too, but I think Tom's got the amp thing covered.

Actually, Pat and I both have DJ4's (I have Pat's old one, and Pat now has Pat's old old one :p). I also have a Thunderchief, but mine is the all-mahogany version, so it could be cool to hear the differences between the two!

Well, I can definitely set up more than one rig in each room in the house (including bathrooms). :D Like I said, the house doen't quite live up to the gear (you've seen the carpet!), but it's comfortable and has what I consider to be a good location. :)

Actually Ken, if you can deal with the weight, I heard that if you repaint the chassie by hand and replace the plastic knobs with wood ones it does two thing:
1) by hand painting it, it makes it sound more natural than if it was sprayed by a machine.
2) the wood knobs really make it sound more organic.

BUT!! The trade off would be the weight issue.

Dan1099

I heard the AI heads were put together mostly from parts they bought from other vendors. I'm not paying hand made money for a machine made amp. Scammers.

I could also be talked into bringing my BSX Allegro 5 too, if there are any doublers in the mix that want to check it out.

I have an old Kay with a Barbera bridge, so we could have a couple of uprights to jam with! :)

You know, I was already pretty stoked about all of you guys coming down, but the longer this thread goes on, the more I think that I have definitely invited the right group of guys! ;)

In addition to scotch (and single barrel bourbon, and Crown Royal, and sipping tequilas, and vodka martini's), I always have a nice selection of beer and wine on hand (though somehow the wine seems wrong, unless we get some mixed company :D).

But, as fun as that is, I will do my best to ensure that those who do not partake at the same level will also have a good time and feel comfortable. After all, I'm going to be counting on you sober guys to keep Mike and I from trashing my place and gear! :p

And...there's a new Tony Packo's in Findlay (about 20 miles from me...but further from Tom). Definitely more convenient for anyone coming from the south or west though. It's right off the I-75.

Tom..I ALMOST bought one a little while back when I was still doing the trio with a singer gig. I thought they'd be great to fill out rhythm guitar/organ sounds, especially during leads. I've heard NOTHING but good about them. Turns out, leaving that band, I didn't need one!

Aguilar DB 750
Any Genz Benz head
Any Nordstrand bass
Any Dingwall bass
Any Stambaugh bass
Any Valenti bass

There are some other items that I know are coming (Thunderfunk 550(B), EBS 350, Schroeder 1210, etc.), so I'm not calling them out, but I am looking forward to playing through them!

Man, I wish I was still living in Illinois. This would be the perfect setting to put my new setup though its paces, and Il is A LOT closer that Az!!!! :hmm:

In the past month, I've gotten a Schroeder Mini 12+ (I live in an apartment and don't gig at the moment), a Dingwall Afterburner 6, and my TFB550-B just landed yesterday! I've only had about 20 minutes to play it, but I'll just say that standing in front of that amp/cab setup while working that Dingwall B string was somewhat like those old commercials where the guy is sitting in an armchair listening to his stereo, looking like he was in a gale.... :hyper:

I guess you guys won't really be missing anything though with Vic bringing his TF. Hey, Vic, did your wife ever live in northern Illinois? I used to know a girl over there who became a vet, then moved further south in Il. I actually used to live right down the road from where Dave cranks out those T-funks.

Okay, here is a list of what I have that will be here (some is out on loan or in the shop), combined with what I know others are bringing. If you are bringing something that is not on here, PM me and I will edit this post (which should hopefully cut down on the wasted bandwidth we would have if we all posted replies to this post).

I've been sorta silent on this one, 'cept for trading pms with Burk.

Right now it looks like about a 70 percent chance I can make it on Friday. Saturday is definitely out, but Friday may work. If I do make it, I'll bring these three, unless somebody specifically wants to see something different.....

I know I'll miss Mikebass, but I wouldn't want to show him up and I've heard him a couple of thousand times so I know all his licks anyway!:D Dan1099 was talking about coming with us. I'll bring the Lowly Sadowsky MV5 NYC and a Geddy Lee that I haven't received yet which was owned by a famous rock star with a Gateway carpet covered SVT Cab! I may bring my LDS 210 Neo too.

Better than that... only bass gear... none of the other "clutter". :D

Actually, after assessing the situation last night, there is in fact a staggering amount of "clutter!"

any intense interest in:

a peavey cirrus BXP (a sample from the OE manufacturer)

a plywood P clone with reverend pickup

a rack with a warwick quadruplet and crest pro 7200

All of the above would be welcome, but I would be especially interested in the Quadruplet and the Crest. :)

Definitely coming down Friday, with my Tacoma and my Marcus Miller. I can bring my BBE BMax-T down too, if anyone is interested in checking it out. But with that list of preamps, it's really not necessary unless someone wants to check it out specifically.

Burk- I'm still cool with carpooling down there if you want. I can stay as late as you feel like, but I'd rather not crash down there. Just something about the allure of my own bed, you know? I'll PM you my number and details.

Okay, we're in the home stretch, so I thought I would throw out a couple of disclosures and ground rules.

1.) My house is not neat. I've tried to make this point in many subtle ways, but I'm just going to come out and say it. The house is messy. There are kids' toys in every room. Our furniture, by and large, is as old and out of date as the carpet in the basement, but with out the "gitch" factor. :hmm: Our thoughts are that little kids are tough on furniture (and carpet!), so we are still getting by with a lot of our "college furniture" until the kids are old enough to treat things with respect (does that every happen?). Same goes for why there's nothing cool/fancy haning on the walls. Needless to say, they are not allowed in "Daddy's room" in the basement. :p

2.) You are all my invited guests, and I want you to be at home. Everyone is welcome to crash, and if I don't have a bed or a couch free, I have numerous (nice!) inflatable air mattresses (and a really fast pump).

3.) We have a good number of cars coming, so to the extent possible, try to park in my driveway. With intelligent space management, we can fit a lot of cars there. When that fills up, I have room along my front yard and the street. If that fills up, please check with me before parking in/near a neighbor's yard. Most of them are very cool, but one or two are not so keen on such things.

4.) The longer you stay, the happier I will be (see #2, above). This is my weekend to hang with my buds and have a blast playing through some killer gear. I would like to go get my kids around dinner time on Sunday, but up until then, I'd love your company! :)

5.) I encourage the consumption of adult beverages for those who are inclined to do so. In fact, I will be supplying a good bit of it for y'all! But, please do not continue to play "the good stuff" after you reach a certain point (which should be obvious). If you absolutely must play beyond the point of reasonable sobriety, we'll break out the Wish Bass and the Behringer combo for ya! :p This rule applies to me as well, so I officially give anyone who is more sober than I (at the time) the authority to yell "Wish Bass!", at which point, I will cease and desist. :hiding:

6.) If you've got some original music on CD, please bring it. I'd love to give it a listen! :)

7.) Speaking of which, we all know that at some point we're probably going to crank up some music, so if you have anything exceptional, feel free to bring it as well. I can do CD's, SACD's, DVD-Audio, etc.

8.) Be prepared for Spinal Tap at some point. Maybe even some Monty Python! :p

9.) There is a no smoking rule at Chez Bowlus, though we do have the great outdoors on hand for just such emergencies. Please dispose of your own butts, though. Oh, but cigars are quite welcome, but of course must be enjoyed outside. :smug:

10.) And the catch-all, rule, if you wouldn't want to take in on a carry-on and go through airport security , please don't bring it to my house (with the notable exception of anything alcoholic).

11.) I reserve the right to add/delete/modify rules at my sole discretion. :D

If you have not confirmed with me vial PM or e-mail, please do. Also, if you need directions, contact me privately.

I am looking forward to seeing you all soon! :)

Tom.

Sounds good!

Pat said something about coming early to help set up, let me know if you need an extra hand...I can probably get there as early as needed.

I don't have much of any gear that would be of any interest, so I can't contribute much in that department. I could probably lug the 810e over if you'd like to do an actual head to head with the NV-610 though.

That's cool...you can take the Hoyt and leave your MTD. I'll take good care of Marilyn for you... ;)

I just remembered my dad's old bass player. He lives in Elmore. Probably to late to call him. He's got a ......sheesh... early 60s Jazz and Fender amp. I think it was a 2x12. Yellow covering on it....We'd have to leave them in the "roped off" area! I'm pretty sure he told more they were the first bass and amp sold in Toledo.

One day never killed anyone though!
Tim Cole's last words before choking to death on an overzealously-consumed Brat.

Tom, if you need me to chip in some cash for food, or there's anything you'd like me to bring, feel free to PM me and let me know. It's cool enough that you're hosting a bunch of strange bass players at your Home, I don't expect you to feed us all on your own dime, too.

My wife has arranged to get off work early Friday, I can come!! James, is there room in the Hummer? I'm gonna clean out my "kid trashed" mini van, take out the rear seat, just in case.

So I have a Reverend P/J four string, a Reverend 5 string(for sale btw), and a defretted, Frankensteined 78 Pbass. Any interest in any of those?

I'd like to hear both Reverend's, if it's not too much of a problem.

I hate to impose, but I am wondering if I can ask a favor from one of you guys who may be in the neighborhood of LDS. I just bought a used 4-space rack from them, and I was wondering if I could connive one of you into picking it up for me. I'll let you play all my gear, drink my booze and crash at my house! Oh, wait, I'm already doing that... Well, how about a hearty "Thank you!" and a firm handshake? :D

If no one is going to be around there, I'll just have them ship it.

Thanks, Tom.

Okay, I can now say that my new (to me) Curbow American Petite 5 will be on hand - with new Bartolini 5.3 preamp harness - at the GTG. Doug Somervell from Curbow Stringed Instruments knocked this thing out in record time for me (I initially contacted him about upgrading the preamp only two weeks ago!). I have to say, I am just stunned and overjoyed at the level of customer service I have received from Doug Simon at Curbow. In fact, I felt inspired to share my "feel good" story in this thread (http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=231876).

Thanks again, Doug! I wish you could have made it up! :)

I'll grab it tomorrow and bring it with me.

And count me in as well to help "fund" the party at your place.

Looks like I'm out. I have a sick wife (who is pregnant) and a sick two year old. If I left this weekend, it might take years to get off the couch. I'm completely bummed. I WILL bring the brats to the 2007 edition of NAMM Fremont!:crying: :crying: :crying:

One more thought. I really only have one glass which I believe is "proper" for drinking scotch, so if you are so inclined and you have a favorite scotch glass on hand, you may want to bring it along! :smug:

In light of my not being able to go, I expect a ton of pictures, sound clips, video clips, etc. If anyone doesn't have a spot online to host them, send it to me, and I will put it up. I have plenty of space, and willingness to do so.

I don't have a way to post video clips, so I may take you up on that!

Again, I hope everyone gets better down there in Zinzinnati. Maybe I'll go hunt up some Hudepohl Gold and we'll drink to your (and your family's) health! :)

Tony Packo's would be the "signature" food item for Toledo, I would think. But I gotta go with Cheezewiz on Ballreichs chips! They are where it's at, and that's all Tiffin, baby! :D

Of course, Fremont is known for its saurkraut (yea!) and Heinz ketchup. :p
