Nedmundo 03-05-2006, 10:38 AM Hey bdgotoh, what's the color of that Climax/L-1500 over on the left? That's really an amazing collection. I'm starting with an L-1500 (ordered Friday), and if I like it as much as I expect, I'll just keep going! bdgotoh 03-05-2006, 11:25 AM The Climax and the SB-2 are the same color - Emerald Blue metallic. I should have a new L-2000 in that color sometime soon. I don't know what's wrong with having 10, at least they are all different! addylewis 03-05-2006, 11:32 AM Nothing wrong with it at all man, its just jealousy creeping in...as I've said before "You can never have too much of a good thing - bass IS a good thing!" Have you got a more recent photo for us man...? bdgotoh 03-05-2006, 12:46 PM No pics lately, I'll try to clean up my room and get a pic in the next few days. Take out the SB-2, add a different SB-2 and a JB-2 and a couple of Lynxes and you get the idea! Ben Clarke 03-05-2006, 08:18 PM Here's my old SB-1. Since this pic was taken I've ordered a G&L MFD J bridge pickup and installed TI flats. I played the bass at the last gig with a blues band and it was perfect. Hung out on the P all night other than when we played "Strut" (Taj Mahal and Jimmy Smith) where I cop the B-3 bass thing other than 24 bars at the end of a gtr solo where I flipped to the bridge for a little Jaco walk. I hardly played my StingRay. I love it dearly, but the SB with the flats really suits that vibe. I can't wait to hear it through the B-15 in the studio. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=28883&d=1138830712 pepsican 03-06-2006, 01:48 AM http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v191/welcometoflair/DSC02414.jpg Ikkir 03-06-2006, 09:23 AM http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b22/Ikkir/IMG_0508.jpg mchildree 03-06-2006, 12:11 PM http://www.eastwindbluegrass.com/images/blul2k.jpg http://www.eastwindbluegrass.com/images/L2500-1.jpg bdgotoh 03-06-2006, 09:08 PM Whoah, Mike - when did you get the 5er?? I'm checking on it's status again this week - didn't get a call back today. tenaciousjg 05-03-2006, 08:59 PM I just scooped this one up over the weekend and I am loving it! (Goodbye P-bass!) Based on the bridge serial # and headstock, I believe it to be a 1981 model. The body sculpt looks unlike any other L2000 I've seen, though - slightly narrower horns and less of a Fendery look. Anyone else encountered that? I wondered if it might not be original, but the hardware and pickup fit is perfect. A few other details: the neck pickup is closer to the neck, more like on a MM Sabre than the regular L2000. The back contour is pretty shallow, not nearly as deep as normal. The neck plate has a hole for the micro-tilt adjustment but there's only more yellow paint showing through it. Was it not a standard feature? And there's that color... I haven't seen it on any other G&L bass from that era, though I suppose it could be a custom job. Any thoughts? Seen anything similar? Recognize that body style? Just what have I gotten myself into? Aside from a delightful new bass and tons of tone, that is. no4mk1 05-03-2006, 10:53 PM Any thoughts? Seen anything similar? Recognize that body style? Just what have I gotten myself into? Aside from a delightful new bass and tons of tone, that is. I don't have a PhD in G&Logy, but that body doesn't look right to me either. It looks really out of balance. The lack of microtilt seems to be the biggest give away that it's not just a modified G&L body, but a wholly different body. How does it play and sound? Cheers, Chris spideyjg 05-03-2006, 10:55 PM I vote it is a replacement body someone made. (the 1st runner up was the lull, btw) i was starting to shy away from g&l again after playing a l-1500, and asat bass thru an ashdown system at rocker, as the tone wasnt grabbing me. after playing this one, i just had to have it. it came with the g&l gigbag which is actually pretty nice. im happy. i think this will be replacing the other two in the picture. they had another used l-2000 trib there (in sunburst i think) for the same price. if it would have had a rosewood or fretless fingerboard, i woud have probably gotten it too! I have atleast donwsized to a Bergie NV 610 for giggin! It even fit's in the car! The 810's stay at home!!!;) :D Chef 08-28-2006, 08:54 AM You aint kiddin!! I have atleast donwsized to a Bergie NV 610 for giggin! Now there's one ya don't hear often! I downsized from two Peavey 1820's to one schroeder 420 for big jobs. Mostly I just use one schroeder 1210. Amazing cabs those schroeders! spideyjg 09-02-2006, 05:20 PM Gutted the SB-2 last night to shield and replace the funky pots that were in it. They were split shafts so the knobs were wonky. Still hums too much if the bridge is full on but I live in sinlge coil hell. Slight hum with the neck only and dialing about half the bridge eliminates it. Favorite sound is neck then dialing just enough bridge to where the hum goes away and the bridge hum begins to be perceptible. 8 lbs 14 ounces so some ultra lites will drop it to 8lbs 10oz. :lowell: Me likey lots. I just ebayed this beauty. I'll get it tomorrow evening and I'll send some pics as soon the sun is coming out again. Hope you like it like I do. :) Gruesse, Pablo spideyjg 09-03-2006, 01:00 PM The binding looks really nice on that! Jim DrSmaggs 09-03-2006, 01:01 PM yes, indeed... the binding makes it droolworthy! Chef 09-03-2006, 01:41 PM Suhweeet, and welcome! palmann 09-03-2006, 01:43 PM I didn't know, that G&L has a binding as an option. So when I saw this, I was sold immediately. This is my first G&L, but I was thinking about getting one for years. I mainly play 2 Fender Precision Basses and a used Alembic Essence in my band. But whereas the Precisions have a little too much bottom for recordings, the Alembic sounds great, but the latter is a little uncomfortable to play for me. I hope this one solves my little "problems". For me the Fender designs belong definitively to the most ergonomic. I played a Tribute L-2000 and was very impressed by the tone quality and it's flexibility. I hope this is not too OT. Greetings to all from Germany, Pablo Phyrexian 09-04-2006, 09:06 AM Djeeeeeeee I'm visiting Talkbass for years now. I'm an avid G&L fan, and I didn't even know 'bout this little subforum... Woeps. :-) Let me show mine once again: LB-100 http://www.everlasting.be/bart/guitars/ashville/live/-6.jpg L-2000 http://www.everlasting.be/bart/guitars/ashville/live/AV_Urgent_2006-01-26_09.jpg palmann 09-17-2006, 11:13 AM Ok, here are another few pics of the L-2000 I posted before. Just gigged with it last night, I'm a happy G&Lian now. :) Gruesse, Pablo Chef 09-17-2006, 11:59 AM Bound body, yum! Here's mine: http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k229/komual/IMG_3852.jpg palmann 09-17-2006, 12:23 PM Wow, this is a beauty, too. I absolutely love the classic sunburst with the binding. But my Precisions are already sunburst and I liked to get another color, this is why I prefered cherryburst for the G&L... EDIT: I speak as if I had a choice. As mentioned before I bought the bass second hand... Ash Body and Flamed Maple top with Wood Binding and Rootbeer finish. #8 Maple Neck with Satin Finish and Rosewood Fretboard. I definately like the JB-2. I don't know if I care much for the krinkle control plate on the L2K. It doesn't look right to me. You still owe us a review on the L1K :) BB Should have my JB-2 today and the new SB-2 will go out tomorrow. I told John to hold it off for a day so I'll get it delivered on Next Wednesday. Chef 11-08-2006, 12:49 PM 4stringdrums; briefly; it's nicely beaten in;) Lots of road wear for a bass I was told was "a studio bass;' but I don't mind. I'd rather have a player than a show piece. It wieghs at least a half ton. It's a great dense punchy sound. The nut is cracked in the bottom of the E string channel-super glue shoudl fix it. Aside from that, it was filthy, and needed a wicked cleaning. Which revelas that the fingerboard could really use a thorough oiling. Aside from that, seems fine. Can't wait to work it. BassManPatsFan 11-11-2006, 08:58 AM This is from 6 months ago, the SB-2 is gone and I've got a few more now. My favorite manufacturer, can you tell? http://home.att.net/~bwdell/0605GNLs.JPG Hey, what's that color called on that one that's fifth from the right...the JB-2?
