Let's start one more tonight... All things that go "ZON!!" in the night!

I'll kick it off by saying that Joe and the gang do some of the best fretwork in the biz! Oh, and it'd be a shame to not mention the RT model...both the US custom as well as the new import model! Both are phenomenal basses and killer ROCK machines!

This thread's open to just about anything, so post pics of your Zonster, ask the questions you've been wanting answers to, or blah...blah... JUST POST IT!

Peace!

+1 on the fret work!

I'm lovin' my new "Vinny" 5 string-- it's totally ruined me for anything but a Zon (well, for a while at least :D )!

This one is a keeper all the way.. I'll bring it by next time I drop in.. It looks even better now with the Black Beauties on it..

Let me know when the new US models come in... I'd like to hear some different models.. Do you have any Customs on order?

The RT's are VERY impressive for those of you that haven't tried them.. KILLER bass!

Sonus Classic 4 (could be a 5...don't remember at the moment)
8 x RT5 Imports (2 in Red, 2 in Blue, 2 in Natural, and 2 in Trans Black)

Joe will be sending us some top choices over the next few days, so we'll more than likely put them out on the site when we start receiving pics! We're getting the good stuf though! :)

I love the RT man! That thing is a total Rocker! I might have to take one of the imports home with me... ;)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recieved an e-mail from ZON Guitars in reguards to My CONCORDE Bass seen here: http://usera.imagecave.com/bassman275/
The e-mail reads as follows; Chris,

We did make the Concorde bass as well as a series of Concorde guitars. These
instruments were made in the mid eighties. Joe is in the process of pulling some

history together on these instruments and once he does, I'll forward it to you.

Sincerely,

Martin Peters

Is this the rarest ZON or what? I want to know if any other TB'ers Have ever owned, seen or even, heard of this great Bass?!!

James- does Zon only offer the detunable bridge on the Hyperbass? I always liked the detuning options of the Hyperbass, but prefer a 24 fret two-pickup design (with fretlines as well). I always imagined the street price of a Hyperbass would be around $4000 as well, which is pretty high up there.

I'll be getting this Sonus in the mail in two days- I'm hoping it'll be a keeper (it may depend on how much it weighs).

I'm pretty sure the Hipshot Bass XTender is an option on most if not all of the Zon basses. The list price on that upgrade is $120.00.

Also, if you go to: http://www.zonguitars.com/zonguitars/hyperbass.html

you can click on the "Build Your Hyperbass" link near the picture and get the retail prices on any model!

Give us a call if we can help you with that sometime!

I think Bryan was referring to the detunable bridge. The Hyperbass may vary in price quite a bit depending on the options you put on it. Fully-loaded like Manring's I'd imagine the street price would be well over $4000. Probably closer to $6000. His has Xtenders on all 4 strings, the detunable bridge (also a big $ option I believe), 4 transducers located somewhere in the body and neck (these are hard to get I hear). So it really depends on what you want. Joe is pretty cool about doing custom stuff - my fretless in the picture is pretty much a clone of Manring's "Jr." with the exception of the top wood, finish, and I only have 1 Xtender on the low string. It depends somewhat on how crazy you want to get. And of course the more custom the more $$$.

By the way, congrats on the Sonus 6! As far as weight, I'm sure you'll find it lighter than most 6ers with that composite neck.

That's what I was figuring. I'm actually having Rob Elrick build me a fretless right now with most of the attributes I'd be looking for (Hipshot Xtender on all four strings, two pickups, 24 frets, 33" scale, etc.) but I've always wanted that bridge.

I'll post my thoughts on the Zon a week or two after I receive it. I'm hoping great things.

James- does Zon only offer the detunable bridge on the Hyperbass?

Here's the response I got from Joe:

James,

The detunable bridge is only found on the Hyperbass Version II. It's not available as an option.

So apparently it's only opn the HB V2.

Hey, just wondering for anyone who has a Vinny, does it accept only double-ball end strings or is it possible to use single ball? Thanks, and beautiful basses, and bassjigga I've also loved that Jr. of yours.

The Vinny does not require special strings. I use TI Jazz flats on mine.

Thanks for the reply, that makes the Vinny all the better :D . Does it have a locking nut then or what? Do you have any pics of the system it uses?

dunamis

The ball end of the string fits into a slot in the bridge tuner system. The bridge tuners act kind of like a screw or bolt. When you turn the knob to the right it pulls on the string.

The other end of the strings are threaded through holes in the head assembly and are held fast by a sort of clamp assembly (allen screws are used to clamp it down). The string excess is then cut off flush at the back of the head so they don't hang out and they don't need to be coiled or wrapped.

Very neat system and works wonderfully.

Anyways, on a related topic, does anyone know where i can get a replacement knob? The top section of the concentric knob fell out during a show.

Thanks

I am patiently waiting on my Vinny 5. Joe made some custom mods for me such as 19mm spacing (as opposed to the standard 17mm), bolt on neck and a surprise custom top. I'll post pics when it arrives (probably another month or 2)

James,
He does. In fact I asked his permission to sell my 435 in order to purchase the Vinny 5. I just couldn't stand the thought of my MTD 535 having to fly in the belly of a plane again. My 535 is such an amazing bass and after the debacle of flying to NAMM in January, I needed a bass I could easily travel with.

BTW, I noticed you're picking up Zaolla cables. I love my Zaolla cables and use them exclusively. They have a great feel to them and great sound (especially noticible on passive instruments and the ol' doghouse). We used their instrument and speakon cables for all our amps at NAMM as well.

So getting a Sonus 6'er in 19mm spacing is out of the question?

bassjigga

Bernie,

My guess would be yes. Since Zon necks are composite, making a 6 string neck in 19mm spacing would require an entire new mould. Although, many people have asked about this in the past, so perhaps Joe will make the mould. You might want to check with him.
