I am sure he has several Basses, but the one he records with is the quenoil.

If you are interested in getting something similar in the states... IIRC Quenoil makes a cheaper copy called the 'Q' i think they are somewhere in the $8k range. George Vance used to carry them but i dont' see them on his website anymore. You might want to get in touch with him if you are interested though.

FYI - Eastman also makes a student/conservatory level copy - I have no idea if they are any good or not -
not to go too far off thread - I saw Edgar Meyer play his 2nd concerto last night with the LA Chamber orchestra (amazing, by the way!). Does anyone know what HIS (5/8th??) bass is?

Are you talking about his main solo bass.....the little Gabrielli?
The only other bass i've seen him play was a healthy sized five stringer He's not that big a cat...until he starts playing.

That's the one - it sounded amazing at Royce hall - especially in all the p/pp parts - crystal clear - of course his palying had nothing to do with it - of course! :) Yikes!

Rabbath plays both Quenoil and Laborie basses.
George still carries the Q Bass.
Also look at Kolstein Guarneri model, it's different from Rabbath's but has similarly sloped upper shoulders.

Also, Gliga and Eastman both make Quenoil copies....and I might add, so does Grunert.

Rabbath has 4 basses made by Christian Laborie. He is coming to DC next week. Concert Thursday night at Georgetown.
