ElBajista 05-09-2006, 08:30 PM cheap pricewise, yes. You can get them even cheaper if you buy used. *points to signature* [/shameless plug] *edit* Whoops! I'm an idiot! I didn't realize what forum this was in. steveb98 05-10-2006, 12:41 AM No, Todd's basses are not cheap brands. His main bass used to be the high-end Yamaha six-string and he currently endorses ZON basses who make a Todd Johnson model. I believe both basses are in the the $3000-$4000 price range. Hi jonesbass, If you're talking about the "brand" of guitars called "Johnson", then yes..... they're an inexpensive/cheap instrument.... I acutally have one of their ABG's..... It actually sounds "OK" acoustically..... I got it for $170 out the door.....CHEAP!!!:hyper: Plus it had my last name on the headstock,.....which I thought was hilarious!!!:D It's basically my "camp fire" bass........ It's good to have it laying around if I want to check a note or demo something on a 4 string for a student etc. FWIW,.... the electronics in it are "HORRIBLE"..... But for a "fun" little knock-around office/campfire bass it's great!! Todd Johnson 05-10-2006, 12:23 PM No, Todd's basses are not cheap brands. Thanks Steve, Actually, my new ZON signature model goes for about $6500. Wow.....or Ouch!!! Depending on your reaction. It's BY FAR the best instrument I've ever played.... it ought to be since we designed it for me and the way I play! Duh!! Play slow! steveb98 05-10-2006, 08:25 PM Thanks Steve, Actually, my new ZON signature model goes for about $6500. Wow.....or Ouch!!! Depending on your reaction. Ivanov_br 01-08-2007, 11:17 AM I'm living in germany now, and I 'd like to buy a cheap but good bass. Is Johnson a good choice. I want a musicman style one. What do you think? LeonD 01-08-2007, 12:23 PM I'm really hoping you're quoting the list price. :eyebrow: I played a Zon (Sonus 5/2) for the first time a few months ago. I loved it so much, I brought it home with me. :hyper: It really has changed the way I approach the bass. After looking at Zon's other basses, I think your signature bass makes a lot of sense (the extended range and deep cutaway). About the only change I'd make is to have it in a five string (high C) which Joe says they'll be doing. Todd, looking at your web page, it says your bass has a mid control and a piezo pickup. When I look at Zon's web page, they say you can have either the mid control or the piezo. Which do you have? LeonD Thanks Steve, Actually, my new ZON signature model goes for about $6500. Correct on both accounts, though I wish you weren't correct about the first part of it!!! By the way, you told me to put up some pics when I got it, so here goes: http://pic30.picturetrail.com/VOL1543/7128680/13634692/217263734.jpg http://pic30.picturetrail.com/VOL1543/7128680/13634692/217261449.jpg http://pic30.picturetrail.com/VOL1543/7128680/13634692/217261422.jpg http://pic30.picturetrail.com/VOL1543/7128680/13634692/217261396.jpg Walnut body, ebony tone plate, bubinga top. Plays fantastic and sounds amazing, and has definitely retired most of my other basses! No other bass sounds like a Zon, for better or worse, and this is definitely the best I've ever heard. Walnut bodies on Zons are definitely the way to go in my experience with them. Is the string spacing tighter on your bass by chance, Todd? It seems really wide on mine, and definitely more than it looks like yours has in pictures. I'm a tight string spacing person (also have a Yamaha Myung, converted to guitar strings/tuning) and was surprised that it feels so wide on this Zon. Either way, killer job on the design. I'm definitely going to order another one down the line- it's by far Zon's best fretted model, in my opinion. vindy500 01-08-2007, 01:18 PM I'm living in germany now, and I 'd like to buy a cheap but good bass. I'm also pretty sure it's VERY close to the Myung spacing...but...I've been wrong before.... All I know is....this is the best bass (for me) that I've ever played. SWEET!!!!!!!! Your bass is BEAUTIFUL.....CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! |
