Are the 3 bolt g&l necks unstable compared to the 3 bolt. Is there a preference among users? Thanks guys!

No, actually they're exactly the same.

I have 6 bolts in mine and I get the impression my neck isint going anywhere.

That "unstable 3 bolt" nonsense stems from the dark days of 70s Fender production where there were issues with 3 bolt necks being weak. Many people feel that the G&L 3 bolt neck is superior to the 6 bolt because of the fantastic micro-tilt feature.

Regardless, rumor has it that the 3 bolt neck/microtilt is being discontinued due to cost cutting measures at BBE.

Sad really. My ASAT with the 3 bolt-er is the cat's pajamas man.

It was also a selling point, due to the fenders bad rep for 3 bolts, it made some hesitate on the purchase

My 2500 has six bolts. Very stable, to say the least.

I've had 3 bolt micro tilt G&L's, and Fenders both. '72 vintage Fenders, 81 vintage G&L's...I've never had issues with either, nor ever had to use the microtilt....

I have a 6 bolt L-2000 and a 3 bolt SB-2. Both feel great. Stable and strong. The SB-2 is 25 years old too!

I've owned a dozen and it's perfectly stable. It's just amazing how a myth can persist so much long. 3 vs 4...well it's one more isn't it? ;)

Tom Anderson's two bolt guitar neck design:

There's a pic of him doing a pull-up on one of them.

I have an old ASAT and SB-1; both 3-bolters. Both necks have been perfectly stable (and the SB-1 is a 1985!). However, these are 4 string basses. Do you think an L2500 would be just as stable sporting a 3-bolt neck?

How will the joint hold up to neck tremoloing? Has anybody played one for a long time with treming on the neck?
