VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Welcome to the Roscoe Forum!
Hey y'all, like the title says, this is where to go for any questions or comments you have about Roscoe Basses. Also, starting next week, we'll be posting "in progress" photos of basses that are in production.
I'm pretty excited about this!!!

Um, I think the word I'm looking for is "booyah", as long as they aren't "compromising" pictures of my sister...
W
Wooo sweetness. Roscoe's been overdue on getting their own forum for a while now.
Edit: Idea: I think the Roscoe megathread in the making should be moved over here.
lpjiang 06-02-2006, 06:29 PM Wow, now I can browse all the things about Roscoe in one forum!
Thanks Gard.

Shawnost 06-02-2006, 11:04 PM I must stay away from this forum...
I must stay away from this forum...
I must stay away from this forum...
Oh well that didn't work. ;)
Great to see a Roscoe forum...it's long overdue.
I can feel the GAS level rising all across TB.

OpaqueBass 06-02-2006, 11:11 PM Upon seeing this forum for the first time about 1 minute ago, my gut reaction went a little like this:
"... aw crap."
I mean that in the best possible way, of course.
Green, yeah, we've been toying with this for a while. You'll have stuff up sooner than Will! (Don't hurt me Will!!! )
Will, the sister pics are gonna stay just between us...
...that didn't come out right...
:hiding:
;)
KB, baseball, soon, very soon. :bassist:
DMB, naw, I think we need to leave that thread right where it is, just start another one here!!! :D
lpjiang, I'll have photos of YOUR baby soon, the body is DONE, the neck has been "hogged" (which I will explain, if anyone is curious).
Mo', good to see you here man. :)
Shawn, man, you need to time things with KB, hit a baseball game with us! :bassist: (you too DMB!)
Opaque, thanks....I think....
lpjiang 06-03-2006, 09:07 AM the neck has been "hogged" (which I will explain, if anyone is curious).
Yeah, I'm curious, please explain...
DrMWP 06-03-2006, 09:54 AM Gard, you're an evil dude! My Roscoe GAS is already nearly unbearable.
to make matters worse...
1. Going to Blueberry Hill today!
2. Wife is starting to come around (if she gets some new bling, that's the deal NEW BASS = NEW JEWELRY)
Getting tougher and tougher to resist!
poptart 06-03-2006, 10:43 AM Roscoeforia - all in one place!! Gard, good call on the forum since you joined the company there seems to be lots of good things happening. Can't wait to see some of the (secret) new stuff..eh???:eyebrow:
Isnt hogged like having the basic shape cut out?
Yeah Gard, give me a date and Ill be up there. Thatd be sweet
Pruitt 06-03-2006, 12:02 PM Man, a whole forum just for Roscoes? I might as well shoot myself now to stop me from suffering from the terrible GAS pains sure to come. Without the forum they were already causing me extreme discomfort. lol... :help:
Yeah, I'm curious, please explain...
I'll start a thread on neck construction eventually, but DMB has the "overview", "hogged" means "(very) rough shaped".
DMB, we'll get a good idea soon, it's really up to you & KB, I'm ALWAYS up for some baseball! :)

Let's target one of the last weekends in June whichever Saturday there is a game Maybe June 24 or July 1? July 1 weekend could be cool as I have a 4 day weekend that wekeend so I could be up for anytime during then.
Whoops, I started editing KB's post!
;)
They're away the first weekend in July (they're in town the 4th), but they are home the weekend before, so let's tenatively say the 24th for now, see what everyone's looking like for that.
Any NCer's interested, join in!
(Not a GTG, officially, we'll shoot for that another time, but soon though!)
Shawnost 06-04-2006, 12:12 AM I think that I may be free that weekend. Throw in a trip to Natty Greene's for a few pints beforehand and I'm in. :p
Shawn
Ryan L. 06-04-2006, 01:24 AM Just noticed that this is up and running now. Cool.
I agree that the "megathread in the making" should remain in the Basses forum. More people view that forum, so keeping it there should possibly result in sending some down to this one.
(well, it works in theory, anyway:hmm: :) )
Ryan -
Cool, thanks for stoppin' in, I'm sure you posted your pair of killer 6's already, but if not, you MUST! :hyper:

Shawn
Oh, dude, you didn't know? You don't need to go to Natty's for pints before, they serve it at the ballpark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
However, a trip to General Greene's joint before or after is definitely a doable thing for me! ;)

The 24th sounds good to me, we can work out details and maybe have some other NCers join.
Maybe get tickets ahead of time to make sure we get good seats???

Looks like DMB and Shawnost are in, I'll know for certain in a day or two myself, but can't think of any reason it WON'T be a "go".
:)
Bump and subscribe!
My mom's ostio is acting up so my wife and I are off to go cut her lawn.... will be back later..
:)

I have a LG-3005 with a Demeter 3 band, coil splitter and mid boost. It has the passive Barts, angled, and is Figured Maple fore and aft with Mahogany in the middle. I LOVE IT! :bassist:

Hello,
I guess you're talking about the Fender Roscoe Beck bass, right?
Wrong :smug:
This forum is about Roscoeguitars (http://www.roscoeguitars.com). Basses built by Keith Roscoe and his crew!
On the classified forum there's a "wanted gear"... you might wanna check that out.
Take care
M
Psst. You spelled the link wrong. ;)

.....uh! :o oooppsss! Fixed!
:D
Thanks.
M
No problem :D
Just in case they wanted to check the site out.
Hah, Id never noticed that the title of the front page is "Roscoe Guitars: The Home of Tone"
How appropriate. :)
Okay.. So, hi everyone!
I figured I should formally introduce myself to the forum instead of just throwing random posts out there as a stranger..
My name is Ryan, I live in Austin, TX, and I'm an alcoholic :D
Seriously, though.. I'm really happy to see a Roscoe Forum, and I can now call myself a Roscoe owner (sort of.. It's spending a short amount of time in layaway). Two days ago, I fell head over heels for #5778. Yesterday, I decided nobody but me should have this instrument.. So yeah. Now the wait begins...
It was really quite a surprise to see "my" bass in its own thread (Very cool, Gard!), but I feel I have to share the finished product with everyone:
#5778
LG-3005
Buckeye Burl Top
Swamp Ash Body
Diamondwood Lined Fretless Board
Maple/Purpleheart/Maple Neck
Hand-Carved Diamondwood Nut
Bartolini pickups and 18v NTMB Pre
Black Hardware
I look forward to getting to know all you guys.

Welcome to the family! :)
That's a very nice bass you've got (or will have) there, I remember it well.
The one thing I really think we do exceptionally well are fretlesses. Our fretted basses are of course incredible, but there's some kind of special sauce or dust in our fretless basses, they just always make me want to keep them, each and every single one.
:smug:
...lucky for you guys, I can't afford to!
;)
Thanks, Gard!
And yes - Roscoe fretless basses are especially ridiculous.
As you probably know, Bass Emporium is one of those "wish list" stores (I've been shopping there pretty much exclusively since I've been playing bass). I had been looking for a NICE 5 string fretless for a long time, and was trying out everything I could get my hands on. Before playing the Roscoe, I played:
Elrick, Zon, Pedulla, Fodera, a couple Ken Smiths, every Ritter I could find, Sadowsky, Lakland, etc, etc, etc.
I picked up the Roscoe immediately after setting down an Elrick Gold Series Evolution 5. No fretless I have ever played even comes close to what this bass can do. I've never heard anything like it.. The G especially surprised me - it "blooms" everywhere!
I wish the board wasn't lined. That's the only thing I would have done differently, had I ordered it.

If I every hit the lottery, there will be a shortage of Roscoe basses on the market. Starting with that piece of amboina I saw at the Roscoe's shop Friday. :bassist:
Bass Response 08-16-2008, 10:17 PM I am expecting a new Roscoe soon. I can't wait for the day I take delivery. Its on layaway until Sept. 30, my birthday. I see the term "GAS". I can tell it means something like being anxious for new gear. Can you tell me more specifically the meaning? Thanks!

Something we all seem to suffer from...

The above shot is from my backyard yesterday!
This is by far the best bass I have ever played! I am a very lucky man!
Hey, can I get a number?

BigELRen 02-03-2009, 05:30 PM Hello from the Pac.NW, Larry here, proud new owner #5102 just wanted to show it off,
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/images/attach/jpg.gifhttp://www.talkbass.com/forum/images/attach/jpg.gif
Here are the specs. from Terry(prev.own.)
LG3005 #5102
Exhibition flame maple top(EOS)
Swamp ash body
Lined fretless black diamondwood neck
Diamondwood nut(?)
Chrome hardware
completed 2004
the nut does not look like wood, but maybe its cut from the heart of the black diamondwood, great looking and great playing, everyone I jam with loves this bass, love the lined fretless(cause I don't have 9yrs of infinite hrs a day to perfect my intonation), IMO J.P. would have played a Roscoe, gotta run cause there a Roscoe 4sale on CL and its close enough for me to go and at least play it...
kerrycares 03-20-2009, 04:21 AM does any one have a 34" scale Roscoe 5 string?
opinions of them.
i 'm considering ordering one.

I believe Databass5 has a 34" LG.
kerrycares 03-23-2009, 03:06 AM i'm looking for something different to add to my bass arsenal and am considering a Roscoe.
my preference is a 19mm spaced, 34" scale 5 string.
i have never seen one with these specs in a store and am cautiously optomistic about buying basses i haven't played.......... just hasn't worked out for me in the past.
any thoughts?

Both 34" scale length and 19mm (or 3/4") string spacing are available "off the menu" options for our basses. Each adds $300 retail to the price of the bass, you'd need to contact a dealer for final pricing, however, as there will be some discount from that.
I wish I could tell you that there were a lot of our basses out there with those options and finding one to "try before you buy" would be an easy task, but that just isn't the case.
I will say that tonally, going to 34" isn't a HUGE difference. I feel a bit less tension on the E and B strings, and I find that I have to be slightly less aggressive in playing them, but they have plenty of depth and punch. The wide string spacing is a comfort/feel issue, and is a no-brainer if you like it.
Unfortunately, you'll most likely have to just take a chance if you want to get one with those specs, and hope for the best. However, I think if you have played a Roscoe, and dug what you felt and heard, you'll be completely happy with what you get when you order a bass with the 34" and 19mm options.
