My Roscoe is #2091. I bought it new around '90 or '91. It seems that I haven't seen any early models like this one on this forum, or anywhere else for that matter. Does anyone on the forum have an early '90s model? Or earlier? I'd love to see photos.

Gard, how about a sticky that details the history of Roscoe basses? I'm sure all Roscoe owners would like to know a little background about Keith and his passion. For instance, what year did Keith begin production of his basses?

Cool idea on the thread. I think it would be really cool for Gardfather to put up a little history of Roscoe Guitars.

I played an ash body/cocobolo topped LG-2000 "flat topped" Roscoe from about 1995 with EMG's. Man, it was really the one that got away from me.

Sorry I've apparantly not paid attention to this thread, but we will definitely try to answer any questions that come up along these lines!

As for a "history" thread, well, eventually, I'll manage to slow Keith down long enough to get a few interesting tidbits along these lines hopefully and we'll make that happen!

One bit of history for you in relation to your bass, Freddy - that was THE ONLY Roscoe bass for a good while, according to Keith, they made exactly that bass over and over for a couple years, and no other basses.

I used this bass extensively immediately after I purchased it for my country music gigs for two years and it sounds so good. At the time, my guitarist picked it up and played it, and said it was the best bass he had ever played. Well, that comes as no surprise, huh?

Roscoe basses have come a long way, baby!

I remember, for a few years after I bought my Roscoe, that I didn't see another one, anywhere. There just weren't many around, and it took a while for word to get out.

Back several years ago I was looking for a lined fretless. I ran across an add for a Roscoe and gave the fellow a call. He said it had a strange paint job but I could have it painted. Notice the quilted maple top.... The only number on the bass is a 44 hand written inside the control cavity. It has a figured ebony fingerboard and the neck has three laminations of maple (no purpleheart center piece).

Gard thinks it's an early 90's model, exhibition quilt maple, mahogany body and a brazilian rosewood fretboard. Lovely to play, I'm looking forward to hearing it through some tubes!

Man that headstock could really be dangerous on a dimmly lit stage!:eek:

That bass really looks like it's in great condition. I'd say that it's definitely been cared for.

he hasn't seen it yet, but I have a feeling he'll be wanting to stand by my right shoulder, or at least put the singer inbetween us in no-mans-land to cop the flak :bassist: :hiding:

Yeah I think it has in the main, there's a few dings on it, but they add to the character. The frets are a little worn, but nothing to worry about right now. It's waiting for a good clean and a new set of XL's
