I've been a huge fan of him since he joined SG... after many years of waiting, I finally got to see him live... guess what? his bass had a malfunction, or something like that and he played at the gig with a Elrick! A 5 strings with fancy top goes around 3k, but I have no idea how long is the waiting time... So, to heal my broken heart, I ordered a beautiful Roscoe Century V!!! Mo' JYD 07-04-2006, 06:25 PM Hey Mo, Wow is that wild or what. My guess is something electrical (out of his control) fell apart. I happen to play a 5 string Elrick. If that is his second choice (I'm sure his own design is his first choice) then I must have good taste. I would love to play one of his basses to see how they feel/sound. 3k for another electric might happen some day but I'll have to sell a lot of gear first. Thanks JIM ThePerfectBass 07-04-2006, 11:26 PM I haven't played one of his basses, but I saw one at NAMM in January. I also got to meet Scott at a Bass Player Mag event that we attended. Really great guy! Mike Tobias commented to me that his basses we're pretty good, so I'd have to think that he's doing something right! The man can play...there's no doubt about that. Peace! maurilio 07-05-2006, 03:12 AM Hello, to add to that gig, he had pulled something on his back that day and he was playing leaning against a stool (I actually do the same when my back is not behaving itself).... Anyway, he is a great guy and a great player, I just would love to try one of his basses myself and decide if I want one! Like I said before, at the moment I'm enjoying the "making " of my Roscoe.... Hope you will have the opportunity to try one of his basses, one day! Aloha Mo' Ps: the Elrick, for what I know, was lended to him for that gig! (if I have some time, I'll post a pic) maurilio 07-06-2006, 12:45 AM Here we are (http://new.photos.yahoo.com/mauriliomina@sbcglobal.net/album/576460762326795701) Mo' Brad Johnson 11-18-2006, 01:34 PM If still interested, I have an Ambush 5. maurilio 11-18-2006, 01:40 PM If still interested, I have an Ambush 5. Hello Brad, you wanna sell it? M phat5 11-19-2006, 10:01 AM An Ambush 5'r......that one's at the top of my GAS list. JAUQO III-X 11-19-2006, 11:09 AM I've played several Ambush Basses on several occasions including a couple of Scott's personal ones, the Basses are some of the best Basses on the market today and his consistency in quality and attention to detail is really up there, they balance well and the weight is about average. His Basses are very very versatile and if you like the added clarity that a graphite neck can bring to the table then you are on the right track in at least wanting to check one out, even the fretless Ambush Basses that I played were no joke. maurilio 11-19-2006, 02:35 PM I've played several Ambush Basses on several occasions including a couple of Scott's personal ones, the Basses are some of the best Basses on the market today and his consistency in quality and attention to detail is really up there, they balance well and the weight is about average. His Basses are very very versatile and if you like the added clarity that a graphite neck can bring to the table then you are on the right track in at least wanting to check one out, even the fretless Ambush Basses that I played were no joke. This year I was getting a new bass. Tried to contact Scott... got the prices and some details from him... and than nothing more! So I went with the Roscoe route. Just got my new bass few weeks ago. Scott knows how to contact me... I'm also trying to get him here at school for a clinic! Anyway, do you have an idea what electronic he uses for his basses? I know it is Bartolini, but I was wondering what vesion/models etc... Damn, I love how he sounds on SG albums! Cheers. M JAUQO III-X 11-19-2006, 03:20 PM Thanks! I've been told by a couple of local bassists who have Ambush basses on order, Scott is making changes on his current stuff. Not sure what they are. T-MOST 02-07-2007, 09:20 AM I wish! Mo' I had the opportunity to have a master class with Scott at the "05 Bass Bootcamp held with Gerald Veasley. He wasa very nice guy and played his ass off. Of course he had 2 of his custom basses with him both of which looked and sounded great. I saw him with Spyro Gyra about 2 months later in NYC and one of his basses didn't work when he went to switch. I don't know if it was just a patch error by the roady or a bass problem... I'm thinking roady error. BTW I have 2 custom Roscoe SKB 3005 basses... no more GAS! maurilio 09-19-2007, 10:25 PM Just to stay on the topic...... today I ordered a bass from Scott :hyper: I'm so happy we finally did it.... should be here by the end of the year, early Jan.... Not sure what they are. Hey Brad, wassup? Scott told me he had some problem with the Resin impregnated wood fingerboards... some of them warped! He's been using Aero pups and Aguilar pre, lately.... My Ambush bass will have Bart and Bart, to start with. Mo' Morfman6 09-21-2007, 04:40 PM I've played Brad Johnson's Ambush....that thing is killer! Looking forward to the results. I wonder if he's keeping the same neck profile? I get people asking to buy mine all the time. Standard answer: Uh.... nope! :D Brad Johnson 09-21-2007, 06:11 PM I've played Brad Johnson's Ambush....that thing is killer! He didn't change anything aside the fretboard that now is pratically the whole neck. On this topic, could you describe how's the neck's profile? Unfortunately I have never had the opportunity to try one. And what about your thoughts on the sound (I know I can just listen to Scott playing, but everyone has a different touch and technique)? We still working on the wood for the top. He has a Birdseye hanging around, but I'm waiting for him to send me a pic. I saw some of this tops are beautiful, some not so much... My first choice is some kinda Quilted (also Curly) Maple. We'll see. Later M Brad Johnson 09-22-2007, 01:15 AM Hey guys, I'm so excited! I know they are the same necks. The real difference comes in with the front to back profile... it's the thinnest I've come across so far. The closest thing to playing just a fretboard I've experienced. Thinner than even a Warrior. Here's how thin it is... if you placed mine face down you'll see that the side markers are actually visible from the back. maurilio 09-22-2007, 01:32 AM Now that scare me a little.... I remember years ago, I had problem because of a bass that had a neck too thin...the Fodera you saw in a thread a while back. My left hand was too cramped (sp?) and gave me tendonitis... but was long time ago and less experience! How's the fretboard, btw? String spacing is 19mm (3/4") I know about that and it's why I love it! Now I have to "steal" all the chops and the "tweaking" (see onboard pre and amps) from Scott  M Brad Johnson 09-22-2007, 01:44 AM Now that scare me a little.... Don't "wrap" your thumb and you'll probably be okay. The edge of the board has a sharp feel, again not wrapping your hand keeps that from being an issue IME. I've found these basses extremely easy to play once you get used to it. maurilio 09-22-2007, 01:52 AM My LH is pretty well trained, I guess... no bat grip ;) Still, I love the way Scott sounds and for what you guys tell me, it is well worth it! I'll keep you updated, for sure... M Dennis Carrico 03-27-2008, 10:13 AM I live in Frederick,MD. I see Scott play all the time when he's not Globe trotting. He plays with his cousin Allen on Tuesday nights at a place called Brewers Alley right in Frederick city...kool jazz!! One of the best kept secrets. It's free....... He also plays with a guy named Allen Scott from the Allen Scott band from time to time. This is more of a progressive rock. We've got to know one another over the years. And yes, He's the mann.:bassist: |
