Hi, Im a student in my final year of high school and I have chosen music and education as an elective and for one of my components, I have to explain to the markers how I would teach bass to a beginner. My speech must go for around 10 minutes and I must demonstrate what I mean. Basically I was thinking to do a 10 week lesson program but Im unsure as to in which order I would teach things and how far I would be able to get in 10 minutes. I was wondering if you would be able to shed some light? Anything would be greatly appreciated. I am asking all the personalities here cos I need all the information I can get from varying sources (Assessment requirements)

i would make sure you covered some of the following topics in your ten minute presentation/lesson plan.

1) introduce a brief history of the instrument and establish the basic possibilities and uses of playing the bass.

2) expose the student to as wider range of music as possible so as to find out what the student is interested in musically. It's not just about the bass as a instrument, but more about music in general.

3) a good knowledge of harmony, sight reading, repotiore

4) good practice routine using a metronome, stressing learning things slowly and then working up technique.

5) euquipment. be knowledgeable about gear, what to suggest to a beginer etc.

something along those lines should give you a good starting point.

I'm not really supposed to be doing your homework for you......

Easy,

Janek
