first how to install a nut.... second when finshing should i drill the electronic holes first and the bass ground or finsh first thanks

is this nut already properly cut, rough cut, or just a blank?

I do all of the body work - including holes, cavities, etc ... - before I ship my body and/or neck off to be finished. Once it arrives back, I assemble it and set it up.

There are a couple of exceptions -

* I am working a custom project using Warmoth parts, and certain configurations are not available without a huge expense

* I am working a repair job on a completed bass

* a client requests a change after the body has been finished

Drill first and tape anything that should not get finish.

I install the nut with a drop of yellow glue.

i have two different nuts one pre fitted from carvin the other is a bone nut that i will do my self just yellow glue is all i need?

Sorry to hijack, but how would it work if you drilled first, and then put balls of tape into the holes? Would they come out if you pulled them out with a needle, or would they be stuck inside the hole? I was just wondering, because I'm sure taping all that is a pain, and just making small tape balls is alot easier, and quicker.

you just push out the tape and it will fall from the holes of your control cavity/neck screws etc.

anyhow, i usually do everything before i even try finishing.

i take my basses in the finishing section where there are no tools whatsoever to avoid scratching and bumps in the process. after the bass is finished. i usually take it home away from the workshop to do all the wirings in a clean area while the bass is seated on bed sheets or something soft to avoid any damage and accidents.

I would not recommend taping off (or filling) the holes, as you do want the wood surface of the hole shaft to be sealed. Failure to seal the holes will result in an uneven moisture absorption which will lead to finishin problems down the road. Same goes for the control cavity - it gets the same finish as the entire body does

When I tape off a surface that I don't plan to apply a sprayed finish to, it is because I plan to apply a different kind of finish in the taped location. An example would be when I have a neck sprayed with nitro - I would tape off an ebony fingerboard, as this will get a lemon oil finish later
