What about the sound? :) The purpleheart imparts its own personality which is very different. I happen to love the way it sounds. It's got a bright attack (though not as bright as maple) and yet it still has the growl and bark of rosewood. I think the spalted purpleheart looks better with a wider range of body woods than the birdseye. To me, a spalted or figured top combined with birdseye fingerboard is too busy. Figjam 07-26-2006, 12:13 PM I hear that the purpleheart has the nice attack that maple does but it is a little beefier. My plan for a sweet looking Roscoe is a natural ash body, enhanced grain, with a spalted purpleheart fingerboard. With enough purple to really be the accent piece of the bass. |
