Hello,
Does anyoe know the tonal characteristics of Araucaria wood? I'm planning to build a fender p bass copy and i saw this body wood on ebay. Would it worth it?
Thanks.

Like other conifers it is likely to be a softwood, so my guess is that it will not make a good tone-wood. Just my 2 cents.

I'd say if it's not full of sap and knots and it's dry then go for it. There seems to be quite a few sub-species. Just make sure you know what you're getting. I looked it up and they make a lot of furniture out of Australian Araucaria. It appears to be pretty stable. I've built using ponderosa pine and it worked out great.
You can let us know what the tonal characteristics are when you're done. :)

I've used pine as a body wood, and it sounded great I thought.

softwoods are not always soft, and some of them make excellent tonewoods (spruce, cedar, etc).
everything you've heard here is probably in re: north american softwoods and may not apply to argentinian ones used by the ebay dude.
