Hey there, everyone.

The 3rd annual Talkbass NYC get-together will take place Sunday, September 24th at the usual location:

The Woodhaven Athletic Club
86-08 95th Avenue
Ozone Park, NY 11416

I can switch this date to Sunday, October 15th if a majority of you prefer, but I think 9/24 will be fine.

Details to follow.

If you're in the NYC area, and don't show up - I'm releasing the dogs! :p

The 2nd one was better than the first; let's be able to say the same about this one!

Could a mod sticky this, please?

Mike ;)

I might have to make the drive up for this event.

Mike, you can hold a raffle for the TBer that gets to have me crash at their pad, eat all their food, drink all their booze, and scare off all the women.

If you don't have the determination to make a four-hour drive in an effort to win this year's best afro award of which you were unfairly snubbed of last year, then there's no way you'll make it through four years of college ;)

I'll try to get there again anyway I can (yet another year has gone by and they STILL don't allow legally blind people to drive ;)). I could probably give my dad a call, or maybe bribe WillPlay4Food to come and get me again if we can finagle our wives into watching our kids again :D

I can show off just how....little I've been practicing this year :hiding:

If I can't bring my amp rig though, I'd feel bad with just my lil ol Ibanez and Franken P...

You wouldn't have to feel bad about it. We just wouldn't let you in.

:p As I saw last year, not everyone needs to bring an amp as there's plenty there- if you think about it, the only reason there would be for everyone to have an amp would be if everyone needed to play at the same time. 20 bassist playing at the same time would be...bad. Me and Don't Fret found out last year just how hard it was to try to jam while just a few other amps were being used at the same time. This year, I'm bringing LONG extension cords so getting out back for a quiet jam is possible :D

FIFTH; why is there no mention of this on the DB side?

Don't you guys wanna mingle with some 'real' Bass players?:D
It should be obvious, Ken, just another example of prejudicial exclusion :hiding: Besides, most slab guys are just afraid that the DBers will pull out a piece of sheet music and we'll all go into a blind panic :help: :D

BTW, anyone on the DB side that can give Fig, Don't Fret and Whafro a run for their "Best 'fro of the year Award" ??

Ok, I just got a PM to look over here. Can I make it? Maybe!. I have to look at my schedule. This is a Sunday? My Son is in College in Philly. I usually bring him home fri/sat and take him back on Sunday. I will have to look at this closely.

I would love a chance to meet you in person Ken. I hope you can make it.

Also, what is the Venue.. Please.. Keep it simple.. I don't wanna read 5 more pages to get the clues..

It's a typical meeting hall (Elks, Moose, etc). Old hardwood everywhere, iffy electricity, lots of folding chairs... nice little spot for a GTG.

Filakovsky - mmmm...Polish Sausages......you do pierogis/perovshkys too? Zimne Pivo?

actually, I wasn't the Kielbasa guy. it was someone's friend, I think of Jewels.

Hey Bob,

We can probably put something together .... James and I will be riding together, but we're pretty close to each other. We should have room for another body or two, depending on how much gear is coming with us.

I'm only bringing a couple of basses, not too sure what James has in mind. If it's just basses we should be able to carry 4 guys total, or if enough NJ people are going we can get a couple of pools set up.

Where are you going to be coming from? Glassboro again? And who else from Jersey is coming?

I wanna go, it's my girlfriend's birthday though dangnabbit... !!!

I may be able to persaude her to stop by with me for a little while. A few important questions though...

I THINK it's sunday? Is it the 24th?

What time?

Is it at the place in the beginning of this thread?

Are you guys going to be smoking cigars, cuz in all seriousness - my girl is allergic and we'd be driving there for nuthin, cuz i'd have to leave. If you are that's totally cool cuz I may not be able to go anyhow - just would like to know beforehand.

Hope I can make it - would like to meet some of you and see the ones of you I already know again. :) If I don't I hope you's hava a blast!

Joe, try your best to make it; it would be cool to meet you. :)

Yes, the GTG is at the place listed in post#1. If you need directions (which I doubt) let me know and I'll PM you my cell#. The GTG is scheduled to begin at 1pm as it has the past two years. It ends by about 8 O'Clock or so.

There's been talk of cigar smoking, but I can't stand the smell of those things either, :spit: so I'd ask anyone who wishes to smoke one to please go out in the yard next to the hall, or out in front of the hall.

Hope to see you there, Joe. ;)

This is from Dan

I know I asked for the DVD, however I'm having second thoughts. All the stuff I'm going to show you will be on our web-site soon. If you don't want to waste time (and the effort to set-it-up)watching TV , we can just talk. I'm bringing the DVD , but I'll leave it up to you to decide if you guys want to see it.

I have a 4 minute artist video (clip from TV), and (2)5-minute news profiles of us, and a 20 minute misc program that has some interviews (Geezer Butler, Mike Tobias, Jason Scheff, Ben Kenney, Tobin Experance, etc.........

I'll leave it up to and your fellow organizers to decide about the DVD(it really doesn't matter to me either way)

oh, what bus goes there?

Beyondhairy, you take the Q11 bus which begins near the Queens Mall.

Take it to Atlantic Avenue (about a 15 - 20 minute ride)
At Atlantic Avenue, take the Atlantic Avenue bus towards Brooklyn (I forgot the # at the moment) about 3 stops to 87th St. If you're not carrying too much gear you can walk it; it's only about a quarter mile.
At 87th St., cross Atlantic Avenue and go 1 block south to 95th Avenue, turn right and you will see a big red house in the middle of the block. The hall is right next to it.

Hope to see you Sunday.

Mike

Sounds like a blast. 98% I'll be there...last weekend before a major release at work, so work may steal my Sunday, but not if I can help it.

I'll bring my morch (in my avatar) and i'll try to bring my pedal board (see my signature) - weather and laziness permitting.

If anyone coming from manhattan wants to meet up for the trek over there, I'm in for that (i'm coming from the UES, but can meet anywhere in the city). I rely on public transit as well. How long is the walk from the A train stop to the place?

Oh and I'll 100% have cash to donate (as should everyone who is attending) for food/expenses. I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone.

I'm almost positive that I'm coming.

As far as a TV/DVD player, I have a 17" laptop.
I've also got some cabling we can use to route audio to an amp if needed.
Would that suffice?
I could also bring a DSLR camera.

Do we have an idea yet of what basses will be there? I'm trying to figure out what to bring.

Right now I'm thinking of bringing:
Fodera Edward 6
Sadowsky 24-5 P/J
F Bass BNF5
'91 Smith BT6

I also have a Sadowsky NYC Modern 24-5, a Sad MV5 and a Surine fretless 6 (that's for sale).
If one of these looks more interesting to you than the fretless F Bass, I could bring one of those instead. I figured we'd have plenty of Sadowskys and Valentis but who knows! :D
