I prefer the first of the two, but both are worth getting. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that Rufus' book includes transcriptions of some of the pieces. -dh Rockinjc 09-19-2001, 09:05 AM Rufus book... it must be the 2000 edition not in the original. jc dhosek 09-20-2001, 09:20 AM Originally posted by Rockinjc Rufus book... it must be the 2000 edition not in the original. jc Does the older edition have no duets? I have neither CDs nor book handy (courtesy of RCN/21st Century, cable company from hell (as if any aren't from hell) I have no internet access at home), so I'm not sure if the duets which appear there included pieces from the CDs or not. -dh gruffpuppy 09-20-2001, 06:53 PM Any of you see the Bass Day tape with Rufus and Mike? They work so well as a team. Tim Ludlam 09-21-2001, 08:40 AM I love that tape. Both those guys make playing look like a walk in the park. It's a definite must see. dhosek 09-21-2001, 02:54 PM Originally posted by Tim Ludlam I love that tape. Both those guys make playing look like a walk in the park. Where can I get the Reid/Moore bass day tape? Thanks. Yvon 10-12-2001, 10:11 AM what about bass/contrebass? Alain Caron and MIchel Donato Tim Ludlam 10-12-2001, 12:27 PM Bass Player magazine might have order forms. You might want to check out their website. Or....the tape is produced by Warner Brothers Publications, and the number is VH0381. WB's address is 15800 NW 48th Avenue, Miami, Fl 33014. gruffpuppy 10-12-2001, 01:46 PM I picked mine up at Guitar Center. Bijoux 12-07-2001, 06:56 PM How about bass/piano, bass/guitar, bass/other, I was listening to Dave Young duet albums and they are absolutely gorgeous, I also have all the Red Mitchell stuff, it definitely puts the bass on the spot light, and is easier to hear all the different colours of sound. George F. Schmidtt 12-08-2001, 03:15 PM Bottesini's Passione Amoroso is ALWAYS a crowd pleaser. - For a performance, Gary Karr/Ermanno Ferrari/Harmon Lewis have a recording that was put out in 1999. There are others but this is the easiest to locate. Adrian Cho 12-18-2001, 07:57 PM Arni Egilsson and Ray Brown on Basses Loaded. Arni also just finished recording a CD with NHOP which he says will be out in the Spring. Also for a bass trio, try Superbass and Superbass 2 with Ray Brown, Christian McBride and John Clayton. Adrian Adrian Cho 12-18-2001, 08:01 PM If we're talking about bass with other instruments then certainly Chops with Joe Pass on guitar and NHOP on bass is great playing although I would not have NHOP's electricky tone as a result of whatever he is amplifying/recording with. Also Dave Young's three CD set of piano and bass duets are great. Adrian Peter McFerrin 12-18-2001, 08:38 PM For bass-bass duets, my favorite would have to be the one at about 29:00 in Ornette Coleman's "Free Jazz." That's Paul Chambers and Charlie Haden, right? They both have that really deep, thumpy gut tone. Robert Sabin 12-28-2001, 11:48 PM NHOP and Sam Jones' "Double Bass" is a must have. There is also a unique record with Glen Moore and David Freisen called "Returning". And Everyone should check out the amazing duet records with Gary Peacock and Ralph Towner. Unreal. grigaut 07-14-2008, 06:20 PM Hi I am looking for two things :" 1) A transcription of that fantastic bass line by NHOP with Oscar Peterson playing 'Carnival' 2) A live video version of Elm by Erik Satie Many thanks! Ben jazzbasser535 07-29-2008, 05:31 PM For bass-bass duets, my favorite would have to be the one at about 29:00 in Ornette Coleman's "Free Jazz." That's Paul Chambers and Charlie Haden, right? They both have that really deep, thumpy gut tone. It's actually Scott Lafaro and Charlie Haden. Although it would be very interesting to hear that recording with PC instead of Lafaro... hdiddy 07-29-2008, 07:06 PM Diana Gannett & David Murray has at least one. "Dolci Duetti" I believe is what the album is called. Incredible stuff. Otherwise, I love the superbass stuff. There are a few more versions of stuff from Superbass 2 on the Ray Brown "Walkin' On" compilation. Otherise Jim Hall & Ron cater on "Telephone" and "Alone Together". The latter kicks ass. Oh yeah, Houston Person & Ron Carter too. damonsmith 07-29-2008, 09:32 PM In free music the first one is Barre Phillips and Dave Holland "Music From two Basses" on ECM. It is fantastic. Peter Kowald made several duos albums with Barre Phillips, Barry Guy Maarten Altena, William Parker, Peter Jacquemyn and myself. Other notable ones are Joelle Leandre and William Parker, Barre Phillips and Barry Guy, Barre Phillips and Motoharu Yoshizawa. More Recent is a fantastic Austrian duo of Werner Dafelfdecker and Uli Fussenegger. I have a duo recording with Joelle that should come out someday and one with Bert Turetzky that will be out within the next year. A track from that one is on my myspace page below. carlopetro 07-30-2008, 09:24 AM what about bass/contrebass?
