It's nothing without a monkey grip :hiding: I was thinking my new century sig would have this color scheme. bad idea???? jzucker 08-22-2006, 07:43 AM Actually, I think it looks great. It's just funny to compare it to the basses he's now making. wolfbass1025 08-22-2006, 08:31 AM Interestingly, that headstock looks like it could be the inspiration for the elrick NJS headstock. I'm assuming this guitar came first. I wasn't slamming it at all, I think its great. I bet its a killer playing and sounding guitar. I really enjoy seeing the evolution of a luthiers designs over time. This is a great example of that. Gard has a slamming pic of Keith R back in the day with one of his serious shredder guitars. Its pretty classic. It makes me smile. Gard 08-22-2006, 11:00 AM We're actually thinking about going back to the monkey grip on everything, making it standard, and an option that cannot be deleted. :) ;) Jake, yeah, I think the yellow/black/white sand-thru finish will look wonderful on your quilted bubinga top! :D That headstock definitely pre-dates the Elrick NJS, but I don't think there was any conscious influence there, just "convergent evolution". Both are just re-makes of a Fender-ish headstock. I've played several of the 80's "metal-head" Roscoes, including one of the Dr. Death (skull & crossbones body) guitars, they are indeed all excellent playing and sounding basses. Bassmanbob 08-28-2006, 11:08 PM Keith Roscoe... the early years. Kinda brings a tear to the eye. Dave 08-29-2006, 07:35 AM IIRC, there one or two chillin in Gard's office. Hes an undercover guitar player!! Gard 08-29-2006, 10:24 AM IIRC, there one or two chillin in Gard's office. Hes an undercover guitar player!! Well, actually.... ...my major in college was at first classical guitar performance, then switched to jazz guitar performance... ...I got better though! :bassist: ...and Keith actually went to BERKLEE as a guitar major! :hiding: ...worse, we have the bodies and necks for probably 75-100 guitars on a large shelf in the shop that no one ever seems to notice. One day, I'm gonna pull down one of the single cut bodies (think bolt-on LP), find a neck that matches and finish that puppy for myself!!!! :D One of the guys that worked here years ago built a set-neck LG bodied guitar that is the most amazing looking, playing, sounding, and feeling guitars I've ever been in the presence of...that's a tempting thought as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ninja: Dave 08-29-2006, 01:33 PM Where the heck do you have room for 100 guitar bodies? I dont remember seeing those anywhere... To be honest, I bet you guys could put out a SICK guitar. If you could bring the same vibe from basses over to a guitar, alot of people would dig it. Im not huge into guitars, so I dont know the different brands much, but if you could put out something like Bentevente, or PRS (only two I can think of off the top of my head), youd have a real winner I think. As far as I know, either no ones heard of Roscoe, or if they have, only in the bass world. You should also try your hand at an acoustic guitar, that would be sweet. I know personally some people who would love a handmade, custom quality guitar for the 2000-3000 dollar range. Joel B 08-29-2006, 02:32 PM DMB, I played one of Keith's guitars several years back. It belonged to Hank JR. and it played great. It also had a light up fretboard that said in big RED(when lit) letters. BOCEPHUS. It was a tele type body, red, but sounded great. My first Roscoe experience. lol Gard 08-29-2006, 02:45 PM Oh, man, they made some CA-RAY-ZEEE stuff for Hank, Jr. over the years!!! There's one out there that has the whole body covered in snakeskin. Real snakeskin. :ninja: Gard 08-29-2006, 02:52 PM Joel, was it this one? Gard 08-29-2006, 02:54 PM Snakeskin  : Gard 08-29-2006, 02:58 PM Black & blue tigerstripe, including fingerboard :bassist: : Joel B 08-29-2006, 03:01 PM Gard, It has been about fifteen years, but It sure looks like the same color scheme I remember. I thought it was a tele body, but my memory isn't what it used to be either. The fretboard is the same though. Where did you get that pic? :D I can almost feel my hair growing shoulder length again. :bassist: Hide the peroxide, Quick!!! Joel B 08-29-2006, 03:07 PM Gard the headstock was like the one on the tigerstriped blue one on the one I played. But I DID have some pants just like the snake skin one. OOO yeeeaaahhhhh baby:bassist: :bassist: :eyebrow: Those were the days, But I too managed to stay away from spandex. :D Dave 08-29-2006, 03:11 PM Snakeskin  : I bet thats a weird feeling guitar. Itd be like playing a pair of boots. Gard, did Roscoe ever make any guitars kinda like the current basses youre putting out? With exotic woods and such? EDIT: actually it looks like it has a gloss finish over it, nevermind. |
