Hello Janek,
Thankyou for your incredible contribution to music in general and bass playing in particular. People like you give us lots to aim for in many ways and it's very inspiring to us. Thanks so much.
I played an awful AWFUL "jazz" function a couple of years ago and suffering alongside me was a sax player called Tom. He said he knew you when you were both younger and remembered you getting seriously into bass and practising relentlessly for hours on end...
I can't remember Tom's surname. I did a couple of dep gigs with the band he was in locally (Birmingham, England).
Do you know who I mean??
Best wishes,
Steve Amadeo, Birmingham

Steve,
thanks for your post.
I'm not sure I do remember a Tom in partiucular. I think I remember about 5 tom's, but can't honestly put a face to any of them off the top of my head. You said he knew me when we were both younger? that could mean we are a similar age.... I can only remember an older Tom, and not his last name.
Damn. That sucks. I hate it when I dont' remember someone that I played with. But yeah, I can imagine I was in deep shedding mode and wasn't paying too much attention to what was going on around me at the time.
I'm actually trying to conenct with a sax player by the name of Huw Warren that I used to play with. He was on the first proper paying gig I ever did when I was 16 or something. If anyone knows of him... drop me a line. And if you find out who this Tom was please let me know. I always like to try and keep in touch with everyone as much as I can these days. It's been so hectic the past few years and I've lost touch with a lot of people.
Easy,
Janek

Janek,
The only Huw Warren I know is a pianist. He currently records for the Babel label, which is putting out some great British jazz these days: http://www.babellabel.co.uk/ His own website is www.huwwarren.com

Found this link.

towards the bottom of this old list (1997) there is an email list that includes a Huw Coxan. Maybe someone on that list knows a recent email address.
Enjoying your forum very much.
Cheers.

Hi Janek,
Tom's surname is Bruton. Know him? Dark hair, about 5ft8, wore glasses when I knew him... Played clarinet and sax.
Best wishes,
Steve
