Hi Steve,
I asked this question on your personal site forum. Just wanted to get feedback from other TBers also.
Thanks much
Hello again Steve,
I have now realized what my actual question is regarding fretless sound. I love my Turner 5-string fretless bass sound. It is unique. I will definitely keep this bass. And, I very much love what appears to be your "signature sound" as in: Grace and Gratitude. I guess I had wanted to know if there was a way to make my Turner bass sound like yours. Perhaps this is not possible.
I want to be able to produce sounds/tone quality like yours or like Kai Elkhart’s bass which he plays on his song: Queen of Cups from his recent CD. There is a small MP3 of Kai’s song here: http://media.putfile.com/Kai-59 . I very much want the lush, rich, organic/acoustic sound you both get. I am not interested in the more metallic side of the sound spectrum.
Can I get that sound out of my Turner bass? Do you think the Elite flat wounds would make a significant difference? What about processors?
In order of significance, what factors affect the quality of the sound?
How much is it in the bass………. the pickups…………. the preamp…………… the strings. I know it is a combination.
How much of your sound comes from the MPX G2’s? I am not asking for your trade secrets here.
I know that set up and playing style are important also. However, what I am most focused on is the bass/pickups/preamp/strings.
Do I need to buy another bass in order to get the type of sound/tone that I am looking for? If so, are their other basses in addition to the Modulus that you would recommend?
I really, really appreciate you taking time to answer my questions.
Thank you for the inspiration you bring to the world of bass.
