VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Practice Songs Recorded without Bass

Are there practice songs on CD or the Internet that have been recorded without bass for the purpose of giving a bassist something to practice against? I have a few instructional books that include CDs, but they aren't that good. Either there are only short clips of songs or the bass is recorded only in one channel (L or R). Turning the balance to the no bass side makes the music sound crappy since only one speaker is producing the sound.

Any suggestions for something in Rock, Blues, Jazz or Reggae?

Thanks,
Paul Mac

Paul,

I recently found out about this site:

http://www.playjazznow.com/

It may be just what you're looking for, at least for Jazz play along.

It's important to note that I'm not affiliated with this site in any way, nor have I purchased the product myself yet, though I spent quite a bit of time checking out their site and listening to the examples. It was very interesting to me because I've been hoping to do something similar with my slap bass related materials.

I liked what I saw and heard. It's worth checking out.

If you dive in, let us know what you think.

Thanks!

Tony

The only reason you would not do what I sugested is that you would just simply not know how closely what I have recommended meets your stated needs.

Resistance is futile!

You must comply.

You will be assimilated.

I have the playjazznow tracks. They are excellent quality.

In the world of blues and rock, there is some high quality stuff here:

Mmm. Never saw those before. They look interesting.

How would you rate the quality of the reference bass lines?

I would rate them a 10. These are professonal musicians. They give you the chords so you can make up your own bass line or just follow along with the guitar.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The Practice Tracks sound like they are what I was looking for. The other ones sound good, too.

This is very interesting, the samples sound very nice. A bit expensive though...
