One thing: to me, (from that tiny pic) the back looks like stained mahogany or even cedar, I don't see the ash grain, but like I said the pic is tiny so its hard to say.

Aggie pre, ash back, and katalox, probably sounds pretty aggressive and strongly voiced.

Spalted Maple top w/ Ash Back. The Bart pups and AG 3 way pre are the same as my Salas NT5 (which I love). The Salas has an ebony board.

I'm new to Roscoe and thinking hard about taking the jump. I'm curious as to the sound and tone palette (since my Salas has the same pups and pre) which gives that Roscoe sound and tone everyone raves about.

Does anyone recognize this SKB 3007? What can you tell me about it?

The katalox fingerboard is suppose to be very stable. That piece sure looks good! Basso Gruvitas has a SKB 3005 with the katalox FB. He really loves his. His 3005 has the soild spalted maple body though.
As wolfbass1025 states, the rear sure looks more like stained Spanish Cedar or Mahogany than ash. But the pic is a bit too small to tell. The owner should know what the body is though and if they say it's ash, it must be. I really love the sound of Spanish cedar but I'm not to crazy about the mahogany bodied Roscoe's I've played. The spalted maple top probably doesn't influence the sound of the bass very much. I'd maybe confirm the ash body with the owner just to be sure.
I love the sound of the Aggie OBP-3 pre. Very old school and more open sounding than the std. 3-band Bart IMO.
Overall one killer looking bass!

Roscoe 7 strings don't pop up used very often at all, let alone one as gorgeous as that. It has 4 days left on it, I'd wait and see how much it jumps up in the next few days. Used Roscoes are usually very pretty reasonably priced, but due to the rareness of it being and 7 and the general beauty of it, I wonder how much it'll fetch on the bay. That being said, to have one spec'd out now, the list price is probably a good $4500 for a bass like that/

I'd say if you have the budget and are shopping around for 7 strings, this bass is the way to go.

And I hope it is indeed an ash body..

If you can get the serial number and PM it to me, Monday I will be happy to see if I can find the original invoice and let you know the details on the bass.

Here is the bass at the store. According to them, it does have an ash body.

Katalox - Jome is right - I have an SKB 5 with an all-maple body and katalox fb. Love it! It's very similar to ebony - bright but compressed. Seems pretty stable - it looks a bit like rosewood and bloodwood mixed together.

7 Strings - You will probably get the bass for a good price as the demand is not as high as say, 5-strings. The downside - you better like it because liquidating it could take a while. Again, because demand is not high.

I got a good closeup look at the back, it is indeed swamp ash.

I saw the 7 at Alpha several months ago. I inquired and they said it was gone.

Waiting to get the serial # from the seller to pass to Gard.

Doesn't look like it's quite the bargain basement price that I had originally hoped for. I was thinking of bidding on this one but it looks like it'll go pretty high which is a testament to the Roscoe quality and resale value! :-)

that seems like a good deal, considering the rareness of SKB3007's and the general nice-ness of that that one. Good score indeed.

I had planned to start bidding as the sale closed out. Then I was not able to get out of the office and commute home until the bidding was closed. I blew it big time. OUCH!!

1 bidder at the opening price of $2,200. Seems like a steal. Such a beautiful piece of workmanship.

Folks here on the board were a great help and Gard sent along the info re: the original build specs. I'll be keeping my eye out for another 3007.

Bassalone here in San Diego claims they have a 3007 on order, but I'm not crazy about the wood combinations.
