A lot of really nice basses this year.

For the 2nd year in a row, a Lakland Bass* is my favorite. Last year it was the Decade with the Dark Star pickups. This year it was the 4-94 with the new Lakland pickups/preamp. It sounded pretty freaking awesome!!!!

That's all for now. I've got to go take out the trash or my wife is gonna kill me.

*I excluded the 2 obvious brands. If I sad a Valenti was the best, that would be lame and spam :D and If I sad Sadowsky was the best, it'd be spam. :)

Wasnt it a 4-94? If its the green one that I think you're talking about.

My favorite gear this time was the epifani PS stuff. Gotta get me some of dat.

Nice pics, Nino!

The green Lakland was pretty sick sounding (thought I didn't a chance to play it)...David's Dingwall also blew me away.

Great time this afternoon!

i didnt play much today, but that parker fly bass was sooooooooo sick. im gassing so bad for it.

i always thought it was a stupid bass cuz it looks so odd lol. but damn it grows on you. not to mention how sick it sounds, and thick, really thick and its got a great punch too

davids pedalboard was pretty tight, i really liked the discombobulation pedal, and that fuzz :)

damn, i just realized i didnt get to play with that theramin :(

who else would i setup next to, but mr. dave wilson, while tbirdbassist gives his rig the test run. not too keen on dave's ul112 breaking down w/ miswired speaker et al., but good thing nick was there to help him out, and save the epifani name from the awful flame war that almost was. ;)

http://home.earthlink.net/~jokerny1/music/bass/nycgtg/davewpedals.jpg
i distinctly remember this pedalboard being 5x larger.

http://home.earthlink.net/~jokerny1/music/bass/nycgtg/ninorig.jpg
and who else would i setup across from but mr. nino hisself? just look at those valenti's!! shoulda gotten a better pic of that caramelburst, cause it was quite mesmerising.

http://home.earthlink.net/~jokerny1/music/bass/nycgtg/ninonorstrand.jpg
breaking it down with aram's brand spanking can still smell the UPS peanuts nordstrand. just a stunning piece of work.

http://home.earthlink.net/~jokerny1/music/bass/nycgtg/fila.jpg
another really cool bass, filak has his name *etched* into the headstock! laser bowling ball shops are your friend. definitely the coolest thing i saw this GTG.

http://home.earthlink.net/~jokerny1/music/bass/nycgtg/bikemess.jpg
one man just cannot have this many sadowskies. :bawl: and FYI, that black M24 is just unbelievably light. first picking it up, almost threw it behind my head!

ahhh, nothing like a little epifani WALL to start your day.

http://home.earthlink.net/~jokerny1/music/bass/nycgtg/bikeepifani.jpg
bikeplate just slamming thru the epifani wall, while mr E hisself, nick looks on. and FYI, he was running his way cool sadowsky 4 into the UL902 powering all FOUR epifani cabs. to say the least, i had to catch my breath, cause bike's slappin' was knocking the wind out of me.

epifani shop dooder, shawn, rockin' some gospel on a sunday afternoon thru the performance 600 / PS112 stack.

My fave basses are the Valenti, Sadowsky and Lakland. I have played many Laklands before with the Bart systems but the Bart systems always sound a bit too safe for my taste, the new Lakland electronics are the bomb!!!. I was actually blown away by these new Lakland's and they have now reached the top of my must have list. Extremely versatile preamp. I referenced the Lakland with the Sadowsky since this is what I currently own. Was it better? I would say just a different flavor. I felt the Lakland was phatter on top with better punch but the PJ Sadowsky had a warmer rounder low end. So better is not the right word. Different is :) The Lakland would make a fine addition to my current collection. Ok I will stop now before I wage war on my credit card!!!

I have some pics that I have to get posted, a lot are similar to Nino's so I'll just pass on them. As soon as I got home last night I got a mercy call to sub for a friend, so I just turned around and walked out the door ... didn't have the time to get the pics up, so I'll get 'em tonight.

Very cool time, again  Many thanks to Mike and Kevin for setting it all up, and props to John for the great food (did everybody cough up some dough, John?).

Nino's basses were smoking, as usual. Aram's Nord is soooo sweet, and whoever owns that 5 string fretless Nord is a lucky man ;)

Pics later, I promise.

No worries. I should've gotten moving earlier and headed down there with you guys. Shortly after you left, the place started to empty out a lot. It was my mistaken thinking that the heart of the get together would be later in the day. I'd love to do some bass jamming on the UES. After all, you live around the block!!! I have a protools setup so we can both plug into that and jam with headphones.

I'm also interested in hearing more about the Lakland pickups and preamp. Is it only in US models? The new electronics/preamp are available in teh USA and SkyLine 44-02 and 55-02 basses

re: Nino's bass, how's the neck and fretwork compared to a Lakland specifically DJ5? I'm digging the neck and fretwork a lot on my Lakland. Nino, do you do fretwork to order? You've had several Laklands so maybe you can even answer this within the CUP?I'll send you a PM. May be boarderline rule breaking.

The ps are made out of birch I believe, whereas the ULs are made out of italian poplar. The PS's are a bit heavier because of this. They are also tuned a bit lower, more like the older NYC series. They have such a phat bottom, with a little less of that high end zing found in the ULs, but its still there. The drivers are also a bit different. The PS series really is amazing though, especially the 12" stack. It puts out great bottom for two small cabs.
