paintandsk8 09-27-2006, 10:52 PM OK here's the details:
*Fall 2006 Chicago TalkBass GTG*
*Bass Club Chicago*
*12213 S. Cicero Avenue, Alsip, Illinois 60803*
*12:00 - 4:00*
*October 14th*
*Jauqo III - X = clincian*
If you are planning on showing up please vote accordingly in the above poll. It's a public poll so it will be easy to keep track of who's gonna be there. Please post what gear you plan on bringing. If you plan on bringing several basses you may have to leave some in your car due to limited space. Amps shouldn't be necesary unless you've got something nice you want to show off/someone wants to see.
paintandsk8 09-27-2006, 11:02 PM Woohoo I'm the first official attendee!
Anyways I'm for sure bringing my latest homebrew build (4 string fretless). I might throw in my homebrew EUB and Lakland DPLE JO, but I'd assume not mess with them unless someone specifically wants to check either one out.
BTW if anyone has a dingwall please bring it. I'm dieing to play one.
See you guys in a couple weeks!
sasred 09-28-2006, 01:04 AM I've had a couple requests to bring my Cafe Walter for some noodling, so will do...almost embarrassed to bring a bass as 1) I'm still very much a beginner, and 2) what I've got is probably firewood in comparison to what most of the gunslingers here are packing, I'm sure...but since I suppose it's rude to NOT show up with something, will bring my "good" bass, my MIJ Fender Jazz Bass Special. My MIM Precision will stay home for the day. :)
Warwickthumb 09-28-2006, 01:31 AM Count me in, of course. Though, can I still get carrots? Hey Paint please bring the EUB. Very seldom do I get a chance to play anything relating to an upright.
Joe
sasred 09-28-2006, 04:09 AM Cool! I'm actually very interested in trying the Cafe Walter. I'd like to A/B it next to my PX4D. I'll bring my Grado SR60 headphones as well.
That's prolly a good thing...I don't have a high-end set of cans to use with it. Though I will say that the clarity through what I DO have is quite, quite nice. :) That headphone amp is a beginner's dream/nightmare. :smug:
BillyB_from_LZ 09-28-2006, 11:00 AM I'll be there!!!
I'll probably bring my two Karl Hoyt basses (a 4 and a 5)...both mongrel Hoyts really, but those who are interested will get a chance to put their hands around Karl's neck (so to speak).
I might bring my Bag End 2x12 too but would certainly leave it in the car until needed.
I have a Mesa Walkabout head and an Ampeg PB250 Portabass head that are small and can come along if anyone wanted to try them out.
As for other items of potential interest...I have a Behringer Bass OD clone and Behringer BDDI clone in case someone was interested in trying those out too.
Trevorus 09-28-2006, 11:02 AM I'll probably bring one bass, but two cabs. My rare ampeg 4x8 and my Harry Kolbe 112. I think people will like to experience these two interesting specimen.
pgurns 09-29-2006, 07:47 AM I'll be there
tadrex 09-30-2006, 02:09 AM I'll be making the trip with my son. Good excuse to visit Chicago and check out some high end equipment which we don't have up here.
So is there a prize for travelling the furthest.:D 4 hour drive for me. I think I'll be coming down Friday night. Any decent motels near by? Not to expensive either.
paintandsk8 09-30-2006, 12:34 PM Sorry, but even if there is a prize, mb1 has ya beat.
Dr. Cheese 09-30-2006, 12:59 PM I'm coming, I just have to convince my wife that I can be back for my big girl's birthday.:help:
IotaNet 09-30-2006, 02:11 PM I'll bring my Barker Fretless along for the ride.
... Any decent motels near by? Not to expensive either ...Try here: www.midwayhotelcenter.com
This is actually a grouping of 7 hotels. It's located about 7 miles (but it's a straight shot by car-- about 15 minutes) from where the GTG will be.
paintandsk8 09-30-2006, 02:54 PM I'll bring my Barker Fretless along for the ride.
Sweet, I'll be looking forward to that one!
I'm in.
And if anyone wants a good hang that night, my band is playing a a bar in Batavia at 9:00 that night...
details at www.blackpearlrocks.com .

Thanks, IotaNet, I'll look into those suggestions. BTW, are you coming from Minneapolis? If so, you've got me beat by at least a 4 more hour drive.
I'm bringing a U.S. Masters EP55 custom if anyones interested. I could also bring a Tech Soundsystem CT-4000. It's a 4 - 12 cab with 2 angled speakers. Some feel this is where Jorge got his design from. I aslo have a Marshall DBS 7400 head and 7410 bottom I'd like to sell so I could lug that along if someone would like to hear it.
Looking forward to learning alot that day!:bassist:
If someone sees something in my 'current setup' on my profile they'd like to try (doubtful) I'll bring it along. Since I live about an hour from this, I'll bring some water bottles (if I can remember)
Yell03SpecV 10-01-2006, 09:30 PM I'm in as long as i don't have to work. Being 5 minutes from home works to my advantage.
If I do come, I'll bring the Ibanez if I feel like a 5er or the NS-2 if I feel like a 4. Who knows what may happen.
As a sidenote, would anyone have any plans afterward? *cough*Bar*cough*
BillyB_from_LZ 10-01-2006, 10:45 PM If someone sees something in my 'current setup' on my profile they'd like to try (doubtful) I'll bring it along. Since I live about an hour from this, I'll bring some water bottles (if I can remember)
The 81 foot Ibanez sounds interesting!;)
:D
FrigginChris 10-01-2006, 11:01 PM I'll be there assuming if i can get off of work, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
The 81 foot Ibanez sounds interesting!;)
:D
Sorry, except for that one. I sold the tractor/trailer I used to haul it when my last band broke up that I used it in.
Really though, it's a nice guitar. Hardly collectible but it's got maple back/sides and solid spruce top. Plays real nice w/ low action and ,unlike some 12's, tunes up fine w/ standard tuning.
Is there going to be some drums or guitar at the gtg?
BillyB_from_LZ 10-02-2006, 12:02 PM Oh man....:( Actually, I don't doubt for a moment that it's a nice guitar... I presume that it's an '81 (1981)?
Actually, I'd like the see/hear the Omni 15. I was going to build a pair of Fitzmaurice' older 1x15 Snail designs (for PA subs) but never got around to it.

I was trying to figure out what was wrong with my punctuation in the abbrieviated year. You showed me.
I bought the plans to make an omni 15 then a TB'er emailed me with an offer for his, so I bought it instead. I blew the tweeter in it already but I just bypassed the crossover so the mid/highs all go to the mid driver now . I think it's better for bass this way cuz it eliminates the tweeter hum of the high frequencies out of the amp yet still has the pop and snap for slapping.
This is allegedly one built by Bill, so the previous owner told me. It didn't have the bulb (fuse) in the tweeter crossover like the plans show however.
It's a bigger cab than I anticipated. Odd sized because having the handles on the side, it's too wide to fit through a doorway so needing to turn it makes it awkward to handle. It's larger than a 410 but lighter. It's just oversized for transporting through normal doors.
Do I hear another vote for the OMNI 15?
I bought my schroeder 410 from mark @ the Bass Club but I'm sure he has another one to try.
BillyB_from_LZ 10-02-2006, 06:38 PM I had no idea that the Omni 15 was that big...should have figured, I guess.
Yell03SpecV 10-02-2006, 07:13 PM I bought my schroeder 410 from mark @ the Bass Club but I'm sure he has another one to try.
Not a couple weeks ago when I was in last, but he may have another.
tribal3140 10-02-2006, 07:25 PM Dag nabbit!
I have a show that night in ferndale MI
and its a managerial / major label showcase
I would have driven! Hell, I drove 11 hrs for the nashville one and CHicagoland is only 4 hours away!
Lonnybass 10-02-2006, 07:41 PM I'll be there and will be bringing out my Lonnybass, Pedulla, MTD Z and some fun amps and cabinets - Alembic F-1X and a couple of Schroeders.
Lonnybass
Not a couple weeks ago when I was in last, but he may have another.
I got mine in the spring.
He only had the one when I went to try it. I called 1st to see that he had one. He may stock up knowing a gtg is about to happen.
Perhaps the recent schroeder threads have dampened orders or maybe business has been slow at TBC. It's not Mark's day job. He holds down another job then opens up in the evenings and weekends.
It's a small place but held about 40 at the last clinic I went to w/ Jauqo playing.
Warwickthumb 10-02-2006, 09:56 PM Looks like were going to have another successful GTG!!!!! Two weeks to go we ned to think up a plan to show the gear. Remember were slightly limted to space. I want everyone to be able to bring thier gear. But we need to do it with some order. Any suggestions?
I can bring my Omni 15 but I'll leave it in the car unless a few would like to do a comparo vs another cab. I'll bring a hand truck too if I remember for others to use.
Yell03SpecV 10-03-2006, 08:44 AM I suppose that if all else fails, if I make it or not, my garage may be available later on (4:30 p.m. ish, if I have to work).
Lonnybass 10-03-2006, 09:20 AM BillyB - can't wait to see your new Hoyt! When did you get a second one?
LonnyB
IotaNet 10-03-2006, 09:25 AM Remember were slightly limted to space.Very good point.
Don't get me wrong - I think that Bass Club is a great shop and Mark is a great guy but the shop is small. When I say small, I mean, "typical small store in a small strip mall" small. With all of the gear he has in there already, there simply won't be room for a whole bunch of people AND their "stuff" -- ESPECIALLY amps & cabs.
I'm not saying this to discourage anyone from coming (quite the contrary -- I'm looking forward to meeting as many TB'ers as possible!) but please keep the size constraints in mind when considering what gear to bring. (Personally, I am going to bring both of my Barker Basses but I think I'll keep one in the car and switch them out as appropriate.)
As long as we use some common sense and remember that despite all the TB excitement, Mark still has a business to run that day, we'll have a great time!
Warwickthumb 10-03-2006, 02:28 PM Mark still has a business to run that day, we'll have a great time!
Well hes actually going to close the shop for us. I belive he put a note up about it. I hope the space issue doesnt damper anyones moods. Its something that Im working on for the next GTG.

How cool is THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hyper: :hyper:
This is going to be AWESOME!!! -- Kudos to you for organizing all of this!!!
Warwickthumb 10-03-2006, 03:48 PM One thing i keep on forgeting to post. Some of you posted or have PMed me about snacks. For those of you so kindly offering to bring snacks pm me about what your planning on bringing. So i have a general conseses(sp??) of whats being brought.
Yell03SpecV 10-03-2006, 04:36 PM We should have a contest -- get faced, and whoever can play the most scales wins. And by win I mean lose, after we clean your puke off a ruined Eden WT400.
Bassman7PM 10-03-2006, 05:18 PM I'm There
Warwickthumb 10-03-2006, 05:51 PM Im still working out the details. Dan Lakin will be at this GTG. Im going so let aside a block time for him to speak and show some of his basses if he wants.
BassManPatsFan 10-03-2006, 05:58 PM Hey guys,
I just realized that I will be in chicago that weekend to visit my sister at Northwestern. Anyone know how far this place is from Evanston? Also, I've never been to Chicago or a GTG before and I'd like to see if I can try to make it. I won't be able to bring a bass as I'm flying in from Boston and it's too much of a hassle. I'll have to check with the rents too and make sure they have nothing planned.
sweeeeeeeeeeeeet
-Alex
Warwickthumb 10-03-2006, 06:00 PM Im not 100% sure how far that would be. What I would recommend is use mapquest to figure that out. addresse can be found in my signature.

Oh wow thanks man. Put me on the list as a tentative...I won't have a car there and unless I find one of my sister's driving, car-owning, bass playing friends to take me, I don't think my chances are looking good.
:(

DopplerShift 10-03-2006, 07:07 PM I've never been to a GTG (get together?). Is there a fee. Do I need to be part of a club?
IotaNet 10-03-2006, 07:19 PM I've never been to a GTG (get together?). Is there a fee. Do I need to be part of a club?Nope and Nope.
Just select the "I will be attending!" option in the poll and show up on the 14th with a good attitude!
(FYI, "Bass Club Chicago" is the name of a retail store that sells basses. Check them out here: www.bassclubchicago.com)
Warwickthumb 10-03-2006, 07:36 PM Ok i just talked to Dan. Hell be bringing some stuff from the shop to show us. And the next GTG will be at the Lakland shop!!!
DopplerShift 10-03-2006, 07:37 PM Sweet!
Are the clinics and lectures free?
Sorry for being such a noob, but I only ever go in the classified forum until I saw this.
IotaNet 10-03-2006, 07:39 PM Are the clinics and lectures free?
As far as I know, everything is free.
Sorry for being such a noob, but I only ever go in the classified forum until I saw this.No worries. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask!
Well Im A newb also but Im 99% percent sure I can make it
Ill Travel light and bring my Hamer short scale sfx, Unless someone wants to check out my Brice 8 string, For some reason I didnt remember I took that saturday off, Must have been in the back of my mind!!!!!!

Threres no amount of experience being a tber needed. Id like to check out the Brice. I have an 6 string myself. And use it quite frequently. Justin if dreams could come true. It would be the 21st as well. But well have to wait till next year. Ok so we have a volunter for water. Anyone else up to bringing something?
Yell03SpecV 10-03-2006, 10:01 PM There's a BP across the street with some pretty rockin sammiches. Additionally, Burrito Jalisco is like a block away, although I do not recommend eating there prior to the meet, as you may end up forcing us all out of BC by way of fumage.

Could always ask for a lift on here...there's several peeps coming in from the 'burbs. I'd take ya if I had a car, as I'm just one suburb over in Skokie...but I'm relying on help too.

+1 on the BP sandwiches. Its almost become retiual for me now. Everytime I stop in at the BC i head right across the street and grab a deli sandwich. I dont know if its chicago or what. But those sandwiches are da bomb!

Hey ya, I was thinking about that, but then again I'll be there to visit my sister who I'm sure doesn't want to trek an hour to satisfy my drooling bass obesssion. Plus, I'm only 16 and the last thing my parents want is my jumping into a car with some dude (or dudette) I met on the internet. No offense to any of you, I hope you have a great time.
-Alex
As a sidenote, would anyone have any plans afterward? *cough*Bar*cough*
As mentioned above, my band plays in Batavia at 9:00 that night. Details at www.blackpearlrocks.com . Yes, I'll bring directions to the GTG!
thehurlatron 10-04-2006, 07:24 PM I'd love to come.
The problem is a wedding gig on Fri. night. After pick-up, it will be late, then a early 2.5hr drive on Sat.......But on the other hand, I'll gain an hour going to IL:ninja:
When do I need a definite answer by?
If I can make it, I can bring a Lakland 55-94, Warwick SSII 5'er, EA VL210B, And I'm thinking that BC has a DB750 and a DB410.

NO reservations needed. Come when ever you can.
Yell03SpecV 10-04-2006, 10:32 PM A breath of fresh air -- I get my new axles tomorrow, so I'll actually be able to DRIVE MY CAR more than 3 miles.
Edit: Don't park next to this if you plan on leaving gear in your car. http://www.msprotege.com/members/Yell03SpecV/hood%20pics/driverfront3quartersmall.jpg
Robear22 10-05-2006, 07:58 AM I am in the process of trying to get the time changed to the football game that I have to coach that day. Right now the start time is 12:30 and the games last an hour then an hour drive time and I won't get there until about 2:30. I hopefully can get the game to start at 11:15 so I will only miss an hour. So I am in just don't know when I will be arriving.
Would anybody be interested in trying out my Dr Bass Rx 215 to get a feel for Dr Bass stuff?
Just a thought.
I think these are two excellent pieces of gear that have been talked about from time to time yet don't pop up except thru hear-say. The Yamaha BBT500H because you can't buy one without playing it and I'd like to show it's versatility and ease of changing sounds. Then I thought I could play it thru the Bill Fitzgerald built Omni 15 sans tweeter so you guys could hear it. It would even be way cool to hear someone with talent play their own amp/bass through the Omni.I have visions of chaos with a dozen people trying out gear at the same time. Is there some sort of format to regulate noise control?
I'd like to see each attendee have 5 minutes to display/showcase a sentimental piece of gear to all. Like sign up on a sheet for your turn. Of course there'll be the Jauqo III showcase and whatever other things that need to be done.
Okay, feel free to object.:hiding:

Now THIS sounds like a cool idea!
Dr. Cheese 10-06-2006, 03:43 PM I'm tempted to let someone else play my favorite gear for five minutes!:hiding: I think one or two minutes would be all for me.
I was thinking 5 minutes would include some set up time. I'd like to see Jauqo take our basses through their paces just to see that it's not our bass hindering us from playng like him
Yell03SpecV 10-06-2006, 04:01 PM I was thinking 5 minutes would include some set up time.
If we do this, I'm bringing the Pod Pro -- run it into the loop return, hit the preset, and go.

Interesting idea but I didn't like Speech class in Junior High 30+ yrs ago and I don't wanna do it at an informal get together now...
Besides, if someone is only interested in a few items that are there, the whole scheduled show-and-tell format would get pretty boring. Plus, it's a come-and-go-as-you-please type event so if one came late, or had to leave early, they'd miss out on something.
tadrex 10-07-2006, 04:21 AM Wow, I'm beginning to get a little nervous about this GTG. The way this place has been described, we better all practice this week like we're playing an upright strapped around our necks.
I think I'll try to arrive a little earlier so I can check out all the gear that's already in the store. Then I can sit (or stand) back and listen to all the great players that will be there.
BTW, will it be OK to bring a camcorder along? Will the clinicians mind if we record them? Or, if I hear a great chop being played I'd like to record it so I can take it home and learn it myself.
Also, there have been some awesome suggestions made. I especially like the one about Jauqo III playing our basses. I'd like to hear how he likes the set-up or hear some suggestions on how to improve the set-up.
May I make another suggestion or two? Or slight veriations of what has already been suggested?
1. Have everyone sign in as they arrive. Name, where from?, distance travelled?, and the gear you'd like to showcase.
2. As the afternoon progresses, everyone can view the list and check the gear they'd like to hear or try out.
3. After clinics are finished (3:00?) the person in charge can name off the top vote getters and they can bring their gear in 1,2, or maybe 3(:p :rollno: ) at a time. Give them 10 minutes (or less) then let the next group go.
If this is done at the end, the ones that are not interested in this will be able to leave early, thus creating more room for more gear and make it possible for everyone that brings gear to bring it in.
I for one have decided not to bring anything but one bass. Heck, I might even leave my son at home:D
Please, these are only suggestions. I realize that nothing that is mentioned here will please everyone or anyone for that matter.
Last I want to say, "Thank you", to all involved with putting this GTG on. It is the perfect excuse for me to tell my wife I just have to go to Chicago. It helped that I could spend the whole day with my son also! Plus, I get to check out some high end gear I've been gassing to try out for years!!!:hyper:
Wishing everyone a safe trip to CHICAGO!:bassist:

Chicken.
BillyB_from_LZ 10-07-2006, 09:34 AM Chicken.
Meanie:bawl:
Would have been a nice time to showcase L/B wouldn't it? At least the audience would be friendly.
paintandsk8 10-07-2006, 10:39 AM Some interesting ideas but I dunno if any of them are do-able. From our experience last year, I am going to say that people do not just want to sit around listen to people talk about their gear. I think that people would rather be milling around meeting people one on one, trying each others stuff, talking about their opinions, just getting to know everyone, after all that's the whole point of a GTG.
Here's what I propose, by the time we all get there and settled, Juaqo gives his clinic, and Dan Lakin gives his talk, we will probably be looking at around two hours left, probably less. We could split the remaining time in half. During the firts half, half of the people are allowed to bring in their gear, then we switch and the other half can bring theirs in. This would cut way down on the amount of crowding and it would still allow the gear portion to be friendly and informal.
IotaNet 10-07-2006, 10:42 AM ... I think that people would rather be milling around meeting people one on one, trying each others stuff, talking about their opinions, just getting to know everyone, after all that's the whole point of a GTG... Exactly.
It's supposed to be FUN ... not pressure. :hyper:
Dr. Cheese 10-07-2006, 11:18 AM I'm just hoping I can get up to BassClub for the GTG. I just got walloped with 1K in car repair bills this morning!:bawl: I'm still planning on attending though.

that is pretty tempting haha
So... what's this rumor I hear about a free Lakland 55-02, Quilted Maple for the person who drives the farthest for the GTG?? http://www.nemec.com/mb/hyper2.gif http://www.nemec.com/mb/hyper2.gif
I only live in Hoffman Estates, but heck, I'd drive to Canada and back for that...
Warwickthumb 10-09-2006, 07:31 PM I see some people posted some ideas about showing gear. I suggested at the GTG to have individuals come up and show thier gear. We basiclly decided to have everyone spread out. And individuals would just walk around checknig out each others gear asking questions etc. . Kinda like a NAMM show I guess. It got pretty loud. But ya know its ok.
Yell03SpecV 10-09-2006, 07:43 PM I could be a jerk and tote an acoustic guitar along, if that pleases anyone.
Of course, I would still bring a bass.
Sidenote: I do NOT recommend leaving gear in your car. It's supposed to be very cold this weekend, and above all, heaven forbid -- I would hate for any theivery to take place. Keep this in mind. Those of you who have been to BC before know about how big the place is. My advice would be to leave big gear at home.
Lonnybass 10-10-2006, 12:16 PM BillyB and Eli-
There is a way to settle this, you know...
7-string swordfight!
Lonnybass
Seeing as how I'm freshly unemployed, I think I can find some time in my schedule.
:D
Oooooo I'll bring the only ESP! :p
Warwickthumb 10-11-2006, 07:42 PM Three Days and counting guys!
Would it be sacreligious if I brought a friend that plays guitar?

No problem...we can use 'em to carry our heavy stuff in!
And dare I ask...is your mom coming too?;)

Unfortunately, my boss has just informed me that I'll be working both days this weekend. Not optional. :bawl:

Darn -- I was hoping to see all 5 TBC's...

Look on the bright side: you will be earning more gear money!:)
Dr. Cheese 10-12-2006, 02:55 PM I guess someone may have answered this, but I'm being lazy!:help:
Should I bring my small combo amp? I don't want to assume that I can just plug into amps in the shop.

I'd say bring it and a multi outlet.Me thinks there may be a shortage of accessible outlets with an abundance of gear and people around. There's been plenty of threads on small combos so some may like what they hear/see.
I don't feel like schlepping my stuff but I'll throw in the BBT500H and the Omni 15 and leave them in the car til someone may want to try them. I'll probably just do more gawking/talking than playing.
I have anti-gas right now. Not much in a spending mood. If I don't get hooked up playing soon, I may start selling some stuff.
Well, I'm pretty bummed about it. I really like my day job but from time to time, frustrations like this come with the territory. And my day job is how I pay for my music habit...
I work 3rd shift so even tho I'm working Friday nite, I get off at 7am Sat., I'll take a nap then pop in. I'm tired a lot from little sleep (3-5 hours a day) but I can catch Saturday functions usually.

Aw, sorry to hear that!!! You weren't able to request the days off beforehand?
Perhaps next time.
Aw, sorry to hear that!!! You weren't able to request the days off beforehand?
I'm trying to work out a plea agreement but it's not looking good...
Aw, I won't be able to make it probably until 2. What will I miss? Not the clinic I hope?

You can throw it in the car if you want to be safe, but last year there was no shortage of amplification. Chances are were going to run out of room to play before we run out of amps to play through.
tom grossheider 10-13-2006, 01:19 PM Just getting wind of this one! Sounds cool and only 45 minutes from home. I'll certainly try to be there but I am way behind in home repairs, I'll get up early and see what I can accomplish.
There is a hotel just south and west of 127th and Cicero, head south on Cicero for plenty of places to eat too.
LaneOnBass 10-13-2006, 02:24 PM I'll be there, and I'll be bringing a my personal WT1205/610XLT rig, as well as a D212XLT and 210MBX. If all goes well, I'll also have the new WTX260. Might even have a few T-shirts and stuff.

*WAY* cool -- the "darkest" bassist on the planet, at our little GTG! Looking forward to meeting you!
Warwickthumb 10-13-2006, 04:05 PM Hey this is for all of you who are so kindly bringing snacks. The shop opens at 11:00 So if you could get there before 12 that would be great. Give us time to set up. Ill be bringing a table for food. Im hopeing to get there at that time. Ill be coming from rockford. So if anyone has the inside scoop on traffic. Please let me know. I had no probs last year. But who knows this year.
Warwickthumb 10-13-2006, 04:07 PM A rep from Eden will be there too. Im going to give him some time to talk as well. SO we got Jauqo for a clinic. Dan Lakin is going to talk about his basses. And there will be a rep from Eden there. And then yall are going to bring your gear. SOunds like a recipe for another great GTG!!!!
Late Friday night reprieve -- work this weekend canceled at last moment. The 5 TBCs will be coming. Leaving for Chicago in about an hour. Will drive halfway tonight and the rest tomorrow morning. See ya there. :bassist:
BillyB_from_LZ 10-13-2006, 08:18 PM Hey this is for all of you who are so kindly bringing snacks....
Just got home from Costco with a couple cases of water for the cause...
clavefa 10-13-2006, 08:38 PM --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I won't be able to make this GTG like I wanted
I have to work tomorrow.
I could'nt say no b/c i only started working there 3 weeks
ago.
It's a small CPA firm in the loop and this is the final weekend
push for all the procrastinators that got extensions to file
their tax returns so everybody is working .
I get off @ 3:00 PM so that settles that.
On the plus side it is time and a half and free lunch.
I was really looking foward to meet my fellow lowenders
I know JAUQOs' set will be sick!
And I was going to show off the OlP i just bought with a Basslines and flats.
Peace,
Oz
Sorry I wont make it, I was looking so forward to it, But I also have to fill in at work for a co worker who is going through a bad Divorce....Have fun you all....post pics please!!!!!!
tadrex 10-13-2006, 11:12 PM Sorry, but I'm another Wisconsinite that won't be making the journey. My son has to work and winter is setting in a little sooner than expected. Waaaay to much to do around the house. Plus, the best part is I just hooked up with a new (used) rig. I bought an Iamp800 with a NL210 and Cxl112L.:bassist: :bassist: :bassist: Should arrive next week.:hyper:
That was the main reason I wanted to come down, to check out some high end gear. Sooo, this should put an end to the gas I've been experiencing lately.:D
Musiclogic 10-14-2006, 01:15 AM Also not going to be able to make it, took a 5 instrument order, and am up to my neck in woodchips right now, hopefully make the spring fling.
Well, the 5 TBCs are gonna be there. Drove 3/4 of the way last night. Current at the Comfort Inn in Ottawa. Should be in Alsip by 12:00
wow this sucks. I can't go at all now.
BillyB_from_LZ 10-14-2006, 09:45 AM Sorry to hear that....
Next time perhaps?
I'm sure that there will be pictures...
Yell03SpecV 10-14-2006, 10:00 AM I may only be able to stay for a little while if I do come -- forgot some friends are in from out of town, and we are supposed to attend a BBQ up at Busse Woods.

MMMM.....BBQ! Have Fun
I'm at work right now:crying:
Thanks to Warwick Thumb for arranging this fun filled afternoon. I think the fretless basses seemed to have the biggest impact. A couple homemade jobbies, a Barker, and Jauqo's G&L ditty.

Ditto (to Warwickthumb), Bass Club Chicago and all who attended.
And also, thanks for bringing the Omni 15...that was pretty cool!!!
I should have a few pics I can post tomorrow. Thanks to Mark, Bass Club owner for hosting this at his shop. Thanks also to Warwickthumb, Lakland, Eden, Jaquo III-X, and everyone else who helped make this fun.
I saw lots of great gear. Caught a bad case of GAS for the Eden WTX 260 (4lbs of cool). Very easy to get to - no traffic problems at at all (just a small bit of construction with a 2-3 minute delay -- that doesn't even count).
LaneOnBass 10-15-2006, 12:51 PM Just want to thank all of you for making me feel so at home. It was great to get to meet all of you. And, of course, it's always great to see Jaquo III-X.
I hope I was able to answer everyone's questions. If not, feel free to drop me a line.
The big woo-hoo for me was playing that Black Skyline. I'll be calling Dan tomorrow to talk about that. <heh heh>
I also have some pictures I'll be posting...some on my own site, and some on the Eden site. (The pix on the Eden site will be up by Wednesday evening.)
Again... thanks to all! What a cool event...
Dr. Cheese 10-15-2006, 09:53 PM I had a great time there although I got there late because I had suffered a blowout down in Central Illinois on the way to the GTG. I met a bunch of people, but I really remember IotaNet, Billy Low, and Jaquo. I really enjoyed meeting Dan Lakin too, he is a really humble and unassuming guy. It was really neat since I had my USA Millennium and Dan Lakin told me that the Millennium was the inspiration for the Skyline series. His move worked because the USA Mlllenniums did not last.
Jaquo III-X is a monster! I really loved him on the fretless L-2500. He was like a cross between Alphonso Johnson & Paul Jackson w/a touch of Jaco.
It was great playing a Darkstar Glaub, it's worth it! I played a Metro Modern 5/24. Even though the neck pup did not work, I liked the sound. If I could comfortably spare $2,400, I would like one, but I wouldn't strain to get it. The GTG was really worth the trip!:)
Dr. Cheese 10-15-2006, 10:01 PM Another thing I learned is that my SR5 HH is truly a boat anchor! I know Jaquo almost freaked when I he held my bass.:D I keep going back and forth, but I may just trade my bass locally and get something lighter for my middle aged bones. I am ready for another GTG already! Maybe us guys in the St. Louis area can work something out?:help:
JAUQO III-X 10-15-2006, 10:10 PM Hey Cheese,it was kool meeting you and man your Stingray was beautiful(and yes very heavy :))I hope my fretless playing wasen't to awful(and I'm being serious).
I had a blast and every body was so kool and down to earth.
Trevorus 10-15-2006, 10:14 PM I'm bummed I missed it. I was scheduled at my brand new job that day and I couldn't tell them no...We have to do another soon.

Jaquo, it's good to know you have high standards for your playing. Frankly, 99.5% of bassists would love to sound like you. Unless a dude is Michael Manring or something, I don't see a lot of room for critique. It's a blast to see an artist as great as you are be so humble.
paintandsk8 10-15-2006, 10:27 PM Man this was a great GTG. There was so much awesome stuff goin on. The barker that Iota brought was a real treat. All the demo's were great. I had a great time messin around on eli's fretless seven, what a trip! For me, the best part of the GTG was listening to all you guys play my fretless. I always thought the most fulfilling part of building would be playing it myself, but watching you guys get some enjoyment out of it was 10 times better. I'm hopin to see a pics thread real soon!
JAUQO III-X 10-15-2006, 10:27 PM Thanks again Cheese,I'm still learning,I chose to make that particular clinic very basic (with the subject matter being what is was,the importance of the relation between the drummer and the Bassist).
paintandsk8,your fretless played nice and it sounded killer,I think your choice of fb radius was perfect.
and Lonnybass, another well thought out and put together fretless with growl for days.
Warwickthumb 10-15-2006, 11:49 PM hey guys. I had a great time. Thanks for another great GTG. It was nice to see some new faces and basses. This one was def better then last years. And im hoping next years will be even better! Im interested to see what Dan has in store for us at the next GTG at the Lakland shop. Jauqo, once again thanks alot for the clinic. I tell ya what. Dan made quit an impression on me. Enough to make me really want to invest in a Lakin. Like if i had a choice of food for a month or get a Lakin. Id choose the Lakin. I need to lose the weight anyway. Oh and cant forget Lane form Eden. Great job showing what an Eden can do. You guys all have nice basses. I think i got a pic of everyones bass, or at least someone playing your bass. Is there anyone here willing to post the pics I took? Hopefully i can get them sent tomarrow. I cant find the usb cable I need to upload the pics to my computer. I tell ya theres always something.
IotaNet 10-16-2006, 12:32 AM I just wanted to echo what everyone else has said - The Chicago GTG was a BLAST!!! It was great to meet all of the TB'ers in person and we had a lot of fun. There are some really great folks on Talkbass. :hyper:
I just want to send a shout-out to all the players I met, including: BassMorpheus, Billy Low, BillyB_from_LZ, Dr. Cheese, eli, eots, Lonnybass, mb1, paintandsk8, Robear22. (I know I met others but I can't remember the names. I apologize for that -- please charge it to my head and not to my heart!)
Special Kudos go to:
* Warwickthumb -- Thanks for pulling it all together!
* Jauqo III-X -- Great job on the clinic!
* Dan Lakin -- A super nice guy who was very generous with his time!
* Lane Baldwin -- This man will definitely sell you on Eden gear!
* Mark from Bassclub -- Thanks for letting us take over your shop for the day!

Dr. Cheese 10-16-2006, 01:11 AM Great pics, Iota! I'm just sorry I got there too late to get my ugly mug in a picture.:(
I may have been the cheap skate of the group as I didn't buy anything while I was there:hiding:
. Wondering who if anyone, bought a bass or amp from Mark.:bassist:
Lonnybass 10-16-2006, 10:32 AM I'm so glad Victor Wooten let me check out his Fodera. ;)

I bought some strings, and I know of some other purchases, but it is not my place to say who got what.
BillyB_from_LZ 10-16-2006, 11:21 AM I'm so glad Victor Wooten let me check out his Fodera. ;)
I'm thrilled that Lonny thinks that my Hoyt 4 feels like Victa's Fodera!!!!
I may have been the cheap skate of the group as I didn't buy anything while I was there
I didn't buy anything either...I did acquire a fondness for an Accugroove Tri 210. The full range balanced tone (when driven by my 4 string Hoyt and the Sadowsky tube head) was quite lovely!!!!
Your Omni 15 sounded pretty good too!!!
I enjoyed the Lakland Bob Glaub and Duck Dunn basses, but realized after trying out many different instruments, that I'm extremely happy with my present trio of basses...
IotaNet 10-16-2006, 11:41 AM ... who if anyone, bought a bass or amp from Mark.I bought a Cherryburst 55-02. :hyper:
Also, while I didn't buy it from Mark (on the strength of Lonnybass' recommendation and letting me check out his), I ordered an MTD Zephyr.
I should have pics of both up by the end of the week.
Lonnybass 10-16-2006, 11:47 AM Iota - that's a nice pic of you with a 535! I mean, a Zephyr...
bgartist 10-16-2006, 12:50 PM I had a great time. Met a lot of great guys-especially Lonnybass (I had the Pedulla Rapture) and Dr. Cheese. Lots of good info and tips from Jauqo. My gas list has gotten bigger. It was my first gtg but not my last.
Yell03SpecV 10-16-2006, 01:56 PM Well, damn. The BBQ sucked because it was windy as crap, so I spent my late afternoon jamming at home, then hopped up to Cork and Kerry later on.
JAUQO III-X 10-16-2006, 04:16 PM Hey Lonnybass, what is the exact string spacing on your Bass at the nut and the bridge ?
Thanks.
Robear22 10-16-2006, 04:58 PM Although I got there late I enjoyed meeting some new and familiar faces. It was a lot of fun and I cannot wait until the next one.
What stood out to me:
-Meeting Iotanet after talking on the phone several times!!!!
-Lonnybass' Zephyr has me gasing for the 6 string as soon as it comes out.
-Paintandsk8 and Lonnybass' creations. We have some very talented guys in the Midwest.
-Eli's Conklins had me wanting to slap myself for selling mine years ago.
-Warwickthumb playing Amazing Grace. Nice chops.
-That Cort GB is very underrated!!!!:smug:
-Billylow's TBC. :crying: I was about to hit him on the head and run outside of the store.:D
-Jauqo for his phenomenal skill on the fretless.
-And Mark for being a gracious host!!!!
Thanks Warwickthumb for putting this together again. I may do something in the spring with a possible guest being Norm Stockton.
What stood out to me:
-Eli's Conklins had me wanting to slap myself for selling mine years ago.
I thought it might hurt, but it just wouldn'a been right for you not to put your hands on one again...
See you next time at Lakland!
