How did you like working with it? Did you do them flat sawn or 1/4? Laminate or 1 piece. What are your thoughts on the subject?.........Thanks........tom

I'm subscribing, I'm planning a Wenge/Limba/Wenge neck-through, and would like to know what y'all think of working Limba necks.

You couldn't ask for an easier wood to work with, but stiffness is not terribly high. It's in the vicinity of mahogany. I'd think you'd want to stiffen it up with some stiffer stringers.

have to agree.....very easy to work, much like walnut, but a little Maple, Macacauba, Chechen, Purple heart, wenge etc. might help to keep it more stable.

black limba looks
KILLER with purpleheart sandwiched in the middle
something about the green/cream and the purple is visually awesome
but as matt stated its not tough enough by itself hence why I say purpleheart looks good with it.

I prepare a limba-merbau-limba-mrbau-limba neck for my next project :) Merbeau being super stiff (and heavy), the limba low stiffnes doesn't bother me.

My last project has a black limba neck. Flat-sawn, one piece, with two graphite reinforcement bars. I too was worried about the stiffness of the limba so I used the 1/4" x 1/8" graphite bars from LMI. It may have been a little over kill though because I don't have any tension on the truss rod right now to get the relief I want. I will say that the neck profile on this neck is a a little chunkier than most people like, so that is responsible for some of the extra stiffness.

That's a really nice sounding fretless, can I find the specs somewhere online?
specifically FB wood and electronics?
we're discussing your Black Limba neck, and the tone thereof!
totally on topic. :D

Does Larry Davis' acrylising process improve stiffness? if so,that could be a good option. It also might negate the need for a finish. bear in mind that this is purely speculation as my experience is currently(i stress this word) non existant, I thought it may be just the solution.

You're right. Acrylized wood is way stiffer, harder (and heavyer) and can be used without any finish.
