Hi,
An old friend of mine wants to put together a band, and I might become the bassist (but I have to practise some tabs from the genre he wants to play first). He told me that they're going to start off playing Nine Inch Nails, Tool and Deftones songs. I need to practise some songs from them. I'm don't really know these bands or their songs too well, so I need some help in choosing songs from them to practise.
So, what are some good songs from those bands that have an interesting bass part to play?
:help:

Thanks

EDIT -- I talked to my friend again, and he said they're also going to do some Marilyn Manson songs.... I don't know any music by Manson...
:help: (again)

"stinkfist" "h" "46&2" "undertow"

nin learn "closer" "wish" "piggy" "head like a hole" and many others i can't think of their names at the moment

Nine Inch Nails - Only, Closer, Deep (not sure what album (if its even on one) its off, but I know its on the tomb raider soundtrack, has PHAT bass), theres some other good lines on the 'With Teeth' album, can't for the life of me remember the names though.

Deftones - My Own Summer, Change (got a nice flowing bassline).

And for Tool - Sober. I don't own very much but this has a good bassline.

Thanks, are there any other NIN, Deftones or Tool songs I should be looking out for?
And are there other bands with a similar genre with good bass lines that I could get some tabs from?

Thanks again :smug:

Oh man, for Tool don't forget about Ænema.

Good luck with the new band, hope comes together for ya, if not, at least you got some new songs under your belt.

If you get an overdrive pedal you can play "The Hand That Feeds" by NIN.

Tool: 46 & 2 and schism

Deftones: the intro to One Weak is real catchy

For Tool - I reccommend "the Pot".
It sounds very very very ... very very difficult, but really, it's not.
I nailed the intro after 5 minutes when I sat down and really went into it.
"Disposition" is also a cool one, it's very easy but it's also very impressive.
"Forty Six & 2" - awesome. The main riff is **** easy too, and sounds very cool.

Alot of Tool's songs sound very dynamic and irregular, but really, some parts go through the whole song on many occasions.

The difficult thing about Tool is going to be landing a tone that sounds like Justin's

For NIN, I hope you guys have a synthesizer/workstation... My band is going to start playing Closer but we've got it almost all the way sequenced on our Roland Fantom X6... we also play The Hand That Feeds, I use overdrive for the bass part, and on the Synth Solo in the middle I play it on the top 2 strings around the 12th fret, with overdrive and phaser on.

Disposition is a pretty overlooked song in terms of Tool basslines. Learn that, and you'll be the bee's knees.
It takes a lot of effects, though.

well it IS an awesome track, i love playing it too :)

but u dont need that many effects, just delay and whammy, should run u about ~$300 for the whammy IV and a delay pedal, i use the bass whammy myself :)

yeah yeah...;) (on the new album)

Also, you cannot play Disposition on a whammy 4 it does not have the proper setting (5th up/1up harmony)

Some guy on youtube did this video....what a bastard..
