It depends on several things.

1. Everyone attending bring their basses.
2. Everyone bring their amplifiers and or we find an organization or several individuals that have access to and are willing to bring a fairly wide variety of amplifiers and speaker cabs to let the bass playing attendants try their basses thru a variety of different setups.
3. A comfortable place (say a house or a place not open at the time to the general public) where the attendants will feel comfortable bringing their equipment to with the minimal risk of having their beloved basses and other equipment being shall we say liberated from the premises. And a place where disturbing the locals won't be an issue.
I would also suggest that we share in the cost of some Pizza's and beer.

It depends on what time of day we would want to do this. If it were to be later in the evening I may have the perfect place to do it, but again it would have to start around 10:00 pm. or later, and it would be in San Diego's north county. Like Encinitas. And the place is an Italian resturant so Pizza and beer would not be an issue. If everyone is game for this idea I will ask the proprietor (A fellow musician and one of my closest friends) about it.

Let me know what you all think and I will find out if we can get it for the evening.

I'd recommend getting the biggest room you can. Burbank was a little cozy in the studio. BTW, I'm down.

The rooms are big enough to comfortably accomodate 30 people and equipment. I should get the final answer by the end of next week. If anyone else knows of a place to do it then speak up. Having several options would be nice.
In the meantime how about those of us that want to do this start posting pics of their basses and at least letting us know what amplification they intend to bring.

Quick update:

My buddy who owns the restaurant is attempting to get his Alcohol license amended to allow live music. His place is just in front of what used to be "Fat Cats" night club, a somewhat notorious live music club that ended up being a real thorn in the side for the city of Encinitas. As it is right now, my friend can't have any live music of any kind. He wants to change that since He is a musician and recording artist, and it would be a benefit to his establishment. We should know something by Thursday of this week.

Sounds like there are cool folks around...I am in the process of considering a relocation to the Oceanside area...but was worried that the local music scene may not be the same as the New England area (been playing here over 20 years and in FLA before that)) but obviously there are serious TBers in the area so hey it must be happening. Just to let everyone know that the city of Encinitas has been dragging their feet in upgrading my friends restaurant. Now they say they should have a decision for him sometime next week. Hopefully if and when they make the decision we can do it sometime in March or April. I personally can do it anytime.

It's cooled down! We're in a nice comfy 80-85's.

nice. It's been very nice temp wise here in Encinitas but thats about to change in the next couple of months. Let us know if the Poway place is available as soon as you can. I'll check out a couple of places around here but after the last fiasco with the Italian restaurant I'm not making any promises unless it's an absolute done deal.

MM, San Bernadino is about roughly the same distance away from San Diego as I am in Glendale, near Los Angeles (You're just farther east than I am). Just a bit over 125 miles. If you can make good time, just about 2 hours driving. If you're caught up in traffic, it can be up to 3 hours.

If it ends up in Poway it's even closer to us, too.

Teo Leo's is busy with karoake on Fridays but might be a good spot for Saturdays. Calahan's is another nearby option for drinks.

I think the Mira Mesa Community Center would be better. There's really no great food around the Poway one.

Along with Calahan's, there's also an El Torito nearby. Some nice looking talent in there on Fridays during happy hour.

I think Teo Leo's might be open to a Talk Bass night and allow us to take over their stage on a Saturday night if enough people commit to it and we put down a deposit to reserve the place. That would be two birds with one stone- a place to play and eat/drink. Fridays they are busy with Karaoke, but I think we might be able to get the place on a Saturday.

This past weekend I met the guy from San Diego Bass Quake who organized the recent Pasadena Bass Day. I'll send him a pm and see if he might be interested in participating and get some vendors involved to throw some swag our way. :cool:

Friday or Saturday works better. Works even better if somebody from LA would like to carpool with me. I can bring everything I have (pedalboard, bass, and acoustic b20 amp) pretty easily in my car and can fit more stuff in if you want to bring stuff. Let's share the cost for gas and I am 100% in to drive and I can probably pick you up.

edit: or if you have a big car/would like to drive/whatever, I have the aforementioned stuff that isn't too big and will pay half your gas if you can pick me up?

edit again: I guess I should mention that I'm driving an 04 Kia Rio Cinco. The drive itself is no real bother (done it before) and I can fit my board/amp in the trunk with room for at least a head if not some mroe stuff, maybe a small cab, and can fit 2-3 basses and maybe a cab in the back seats. More if we close them, I suppose.

I won't be willing to haul my Carvin 8x10 cab over, cause I'm not quite sure how long I'll be able to stay. But I'd be more than happy to bring my B1500 head, and my LB75P if anybody wants to give them a try.

My gear collection is down to the bare minimum now so all I have to bring are:

I can bring a few rigs/basses with me as well for anyone to try.

I'll also bring the theremin, which will result in everyone having to go buy one as they are like crack.

The International GTG was held in a large hall, with banquet tables set up in the middle and all the equipment around the perimeter. Crusader and Major Metal did quite a lot of work to make it happen. I don't know the size of the venue for the San Diego GTG. Maybe I could bop up there to check it out.

I'll be bringing my two Bergantino cabs and an Eden 800 WT as well as three basses. At the most I would say we could probably get 20 people in there comfortably with gear before we'd be overflowing onto the front deck.

I would also like to know how the loading in and out would be. I'll bring my rolling rack with a demeter and crest ca9 rack and an older ampeg 1510 cab, but best not if we have narrow stairs to climb. I could also bring an ampeg b100r which I love as I'd like to hear other basses through it.

I have basses that I could bring as well. I'll keep checking back this thread every day.

Anyway, folks, the GTG is at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17th at Pipes Cafe in beautiful downtown Cardiff-by-the-Sea. I think there's room for maybe 9 or 10 rigs around the perimeter of the room, with tables and chairs in the middle to sit around and jack your jaws. It's not a huge room, so 810s and full stacks are superfluous. I'd say a 410 and head (or a 215 if you must) is plenty big. The restaurant will be closed, but there are some food establishments nearby, maybe even a pizza place (Steve is that really good Italian restaurant still accross the street?) and a 7-11 for beer, if that's permitted.

Now we need to get a solid head count.

Yeah the Seaside market is across the street and they make some killer Deli style food, then there's a Subway sammich and a Liquer store just around the corner. Don't know about a Pizza place around but I'm sure there's at least a thousand or more close by. So I thought I'd like to be the first to post about last nights GTG. It was a blast and great to put a face on the screennames. On top of that it was awesome to play through other amps and see other basses as well. I think we should do this again. Well off to play some more...

yo i live in san diego, Im in for a gtg.

I'm still saying wow after hearing ninefinger and ubone jam out, amazing playing. The opportunity to see, play and discuss equipment that otherwise would never been seen by me was priceless, plus, just hanging out with everyone is both fun and a great learning experience. Thank you to all that came. I want a shroeder 1 x 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was nice meeting everyone and playing some amazing basses. Thanks to all who came.

My hats off to those that were able to make it to the first San Diego GTG. Good people, a bitchin array of fine basses, and some very nice rigs to run it all thru. I know I had a very good time. Next time I'll get a drummer and guitarist to join us so there will be some serious jammin. The owner of the establishment was very happy with the event and has offered the place to us anytime we want to do this again. So shall we turn this into a three or four times a year event??
