It seems to me we need a site that is bigger than any I have to offer, and a volunteer to do the organizing. Is there a way to search for all the SD members so we can PM them to get things started? Jazzdogg 10-05-2006, 04:04 PM If the timing is right, I'll drive over. It'd be nice to get a place with a few separate rooms, so we could try out some rigs without an ambient cacophany. We might even be able to round up James East (Nate's brother). Steve Beast 12-26-2007, 03:34 PM So how do we go about reserving a place for this? and what kind of place do we need for this? ubone 12-26-2007, 11:19 PM So how do we go about reserving a place for this? and what kind of place do we need for this? It depends on several things. 1. Everyone attending bring their basses. 2. Everyone bring their amplifiers and or we find an organization or several individuals that have access to and are willing to bring a fairly wide variety of amplifiers and speaker cabs to let the bass playing attendants try their basses thru a variety of different setups. 3. A comfortable place (say a house or a place not open at the time to the general public) where the attendants will feel comfortable bringing their equipment to with the minimal risk of having their beloved basses and other equipment being shall we say liberated from the premises. And a place where disturbing the locals won't be an issue. I would also suggest that we share in the cost of some Pizza's and beer. It depends on what time of day we would want to do this. If it were to be later in the evening I may have the perfect place to do it, but again it would have to start around 10:00 pm. or later, and it would be in San Diego's north county. Like Encinitas. And the place is an Italian resturant so Pizza and beer would not be an issue. If everyone is game for this idea I will ask the proprietor (A fellow musician and one of my closest friends) about it. Let me know what you all think and I will find out if we can get it for the evening. Steve Beast 12-26-2007, 11:47 PM That would be a bit late for me, but I'm pretty sure I can try for that. Damn my young-ness! :p I would be definitely bringing my 8x10 and my bass, I'm not sure about others. Look into that for us, it'd probably be a good idea. ubone 12-31-2007, 08:20 PM I should know by the middle of Jan if we can hold it at my friends resturant. I'm sorry but there's a little more involved than I thought. I will need a final head count and some idea of what inst & amps everyone will be bringing. (deciding which room to clear to make space.) Let me know as soon as possible. Steve Beast 12-31-2007, 11:02 PM So it would be at 10pm in Encinitas? I should get the final answer by the end of next week. If anyone else knows of a place to do it then speak up. Having several options would be nice. In the meantime how about those of us that want to do this start posting pics of their basses and at least letting us know what amplification they intend to bring. His place is just in front of what used to be "Fat Cats" night club, a somewhat notorious live music club that ended up being a real thorn in the side for the city of Encinitas. As it is right now, my friend can't have any live music of any kind. He wants to change that since He is a musician and recording artist, and it would be a benefit to his establishment. Some nice looking talent in there on Fridays during happy hour. So the question is how many of us will be attending and what would be the date of the event? So speak up and be counted and lets establish a firm date for the event. Steve513 I like this location even better since it's well within the reasonable distance for heavily intoxicated driving from my apartment. I'm game as long as it's a weekend. ubone 07-24-2008, 12:14 AM Anyone else interested in a GTG at Pipes Cafe in Cardiff? Steve513 Munjibunga 07-24-2008, 01:09 AM I'm down if I'm available. ubone 07-24-2008, 02:19 PM Ok. How about the middle of next month? Somewhere between the 15th and the 20th? This is kinda like pulling teeth.. Steve513 MisterV619 07-24-2008, 02:55 PM Ok. How about the middle of next month? Somewhere between the 15th and the 20th? This is kinda like pulling teeth.. Steve513 I'm going to the opening game of SDSU football for the free commemorative Marshall Faulk Jersey. Other than that game or the night of the Sky Show, I'm open for any other Saturday. Beast 07-24-2008, 03:05 PM Ok. How about the middle of next month? Somewhere between the 15th and the 20th? This is kinda like pulling teeth.. Steve513 If it's going to be between the 15th and the 20th next month, I'm sure more than a few of us would appreciate it if it was on a weekend. School starts really early this year, the 16th for me. Unrepresented 07-25-2008, 12:09 PM I've got a gig on the 17th at the old Zombie Lounge, whatever that's been renamed... Ben B 07-25-2008, 12:24 PM Anyone else interested in a GTG at Pipes Cafe in Cardiff? I'm in. steve21 07-25-2008, 01:27 PM I'm pretty down. If anybody near LA would like to carpool that'd be awesome. ubone 08-03-2008, 06:17 PM So is everyone cool with the idea of doing this at Pipes Cafe in Cardiff? If not let me know. Regarding the date I will throw these out for everyone to decide on. 8/15, 8/16 or 8/17. Thats either Friday the 15th, Saturday the 16th or Sunday the 17th of this month. After 4:00 P.M. Lets make a decision by the end of next week so I can get it scheduled. Pipes Cafe 121 Liverpool Drive Cardiff By Sea, CA 92007 760-632-0056 Steve513 steve21 08-04-2008, 01:25 PM Friday or Saturday works better. Works even better if somebody from LA would like to carpool with me. I can bring everything I have (pedalboard, bass, and acoustic b20 amp) pretty easily in my car and can fit more stuff in if you want to bring stuff. Let's share the cost for gas and I am 100% in to drive and I can probably pick you up. edit: or if you have a big car/would like to drive/whatever, I have the aforementioned stuff that isn't too big and will pay half your gas if you can pick me up? edit again: I guess I should mention that I'm driving an 04 Kia Rio Cinco. The drive itself is no real bother (done it before) and I can fit my board/amp in the trunk with room for at least a head if not some mroe stuff, maybe a small cab, and can fit 2-3 basses and maybe a cab in the back seats. More if we close them, I suppose. Unrepresented 08-06-2008, 02:58 AM So is everyone cool with the idea of doing this at Pipes Cafe in Cardiff? If not let me know. Sunday would work best for me. steve21 08-06-2008, 05:06 PM So, I pretty much realized I don't do anything on Sundays anyway. Friday Saturday or Sunday works for me. Still wanna get a LAish guy to drive down with, though. ubone 08-06-2008, 05:28 PM Ok. so thats 3 people that want to do this so far. I need to get a full head count and an established date pdq. Pipes owner wants to know as soon as possible. lposavad 08-06-2008, 10:55 PM Just found out about this, and damnit, I have a gig Friday and Saturday in Santee...:crying: Chipsonfire 08-07-2008, 01:20 AM Aw man, it's times like these I wish I went to see my parents more often :p (they live in temecula) Stupid college sucking my bank account dry :( Munjibunga 08-07-2008, 10:26 AM I'm still down. Munjibunga 08-09-2008, 11:52 AM Sunday, August 17th? Unrepresented 08-09-2008, 12:48 PM Sunday, August 17th? I'm game. What do we need to start planning in terms of equipment and itinerary? Is everybody bringing everything? Are there a few "choice" setups and then a lot of people bringing basses? Effects? Women, wine and song? Does anyone want to contact one o' them fancy stores see if they want to bring some merch out to lure us bassists in with? Am I being premature? Beast 08-09-2008, 01:37 PM I'm game. I won't be willing to haul my Carvin 8x10 cab over, cause I'm not quite sure how long I'll be able to stay. But I'd be more than happy to bring my B1500 head, and my LB75P if anybody wants to give them a try. Munjibunga 08-09-2008, 01:59 PM I'll bring a few basses, and maybe my Glockenklang rig. Probably the Pink JO5, Drozd, a Sadowsky and Keith Roscoe. Maybe that F Bass, too. Unrepresented 08-09-2008, 02:07 PM I'll bring a few basses, and maybe my Glockenklang rig. Probably the Pink JO5, Drozd, a Sadowsky and Keith Roscoe. Maybe that F Bass, too. Cool. I'm probably going to bring my rig, but don't know the procedures for these things and don't want to be "that guy." Munji, I saw that you attended the INT'L GTG can you share some advice as to what worked and what didn't, in your opinion so that we can make ours mo' betta. Also, at the risk of sounding sacreligious, are we invinting drummers or guitarists to play in our reindeer games? Seems like with that many bassists you'd want a drummer to jam to, but that might just be me. jeff7k 08-09-2008, 02:13 PM okay what's GTG? Unrepresented 08-09-2008, 02:32 PM okay what's GTG? I can bring a few rigs/basses with me as well for anyone to try. I'll also bring the theremin, which will result in everyone having to go buy one as they are like crack. Munjibunga 08-10-2008, 01:25 PM The International GTG was held in a large hall, with banquet tables set up in the middle and all the equipment around the perimeter. Crusader and Major Metal did quite a lot of work to make it happen. I don't know the size of the venue for the San Diego GTG. Maybe I could bop up there to check it out. ubone 08-10-2008, 11:24 PM Hey all, So it looks like everyone is cool with Sunday the 17th starting around 5:00 P.M. I'll let the owner of Pipe's know that a date has been decided and we'll go from there. Concerning the amount of gear to bring Let me just say that I wouldn't go too crazy. Pipes Cafe isn't a big place at all. I'll be bringing my two Bergantino cabs and an Eden 800 WT as well as three basses. At the most I would say we could probably get 20 people in there comfortably with gear before we'd be overflowing onto the front deck. Munji. If you make it up to Pipes this week ask Dana the coffee girl (you can't miss her, She's the one thats pregnant) for Steve upstairs and we'll figure out if this place is gonna be big enough for everyone. I'll bring my rolling rack with a demeter and crest ca9 rack and an older ampeg 1510 cab, but best not if we have narrow stairs to climb. I could also bring an ampeg b100r which I love as I'd like to hear other basses through it. I have basses that I could bring as well. I'll keep checking back this thread every day. j ubone 08-11-2008, 01:55 PM Did you get her pregnant? No.. My wife or 30 years would kill me and She's married to my business partner. Munjibunga 08-11-2008, 09:35 PM Your wife is married to your business partner? Kinky. Anyway, folks, the GTG is at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17th at Pipes Cafe in beautiful downtown Cardiff-by-the-Sea. I think there's room for maybe 9 or 10 rigs around the perimeter of the room, with tables and chairs in the middle to sit around and jack your jaws. It's not a huge room, so 810s and full stacks are superfluous. I'd say a 410 and head (or a 215 if you must) is plenty big. The restaurant will be closed, but there are some food establishments nearby, maybe even a pizza place (Steve is that really good Italian restaurant still accross the street?) and a 7-11 for beer, if that's permitted. Now we need to get a solid head count. So far, we've got: 1. ubone 2. Munjibunga 3. 6jase5 4. YCBass 5. Unrepresented 6. Downwrong 7. Ben B 8. ninefingerbass (perhaps) If you're going to make it, post here or PM me. Let's do this thing. ubone 08-11-2008, 11:20 PM Ha ha ha ha. I like the twist you put on things Munji. Nice to meet another old fart that loves the low end like I do. lets get together for lunch at Pipes any time it's convenient for you. Yeah the Seaside market is across the street and they make some killer Deli style food, then there's a Subway sammich and a Liquer store just around the corner. Don't know about a Pizza place around but I'm sure there's at least a thousand or more close by. I didn't get to see the owner today but I'll catch up with him sometime this week and make sure everything is solid. Jazzdogg 08-11-2008, 11:47 PM Your wife is married to your business partner? Here's the address. Pipes cafe 121 Liverpool Dr. Cardiff by the Sea, CA 92007. Lets have some fun... Steve513 Beast 08-12-2008, 06:36 PM Bad news, I will not be able to make it due to complications with the parents. My mother has a conflicting commitment, and my father is in Hong Kong at the moment. Hope you guys have a blast! Downwrong 08-12-2008, 07:08 PM OK, count me in as well. I realize there is a space issue, but here are some items I could bring IF there is interest and IF space allows (I am also very comfortable bringing very little, and checking out what others have to share): Amps Reeves Custom 225 Tube head Markbass F1 Peavey Classic 400 Tube head (this thing weighs 100 lbs, so there needs to be serious interest for me to move this monster -- I'd actually rather not deal with it) Cabinets I'm a Schroeder endorser and have managed to collect a number of both newer and older cabinets. Newer Schroeders: Mini 10+R Mini 15+L (not yet on his website) 412R Older Schroeders: Angled face Mini 12R 21012R 1210R For basses, three that may be of interest to others are: Two headless David Kings basses (4 string and 5 string) Rick Turner fretless 4 string solid body (Electroline). I also have a couple of fun preamps if the group is curious (Kern, Trace Elliot V Type, Ashdown Entwistle RPM). So, give me some feedback on what to bring.
