VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Minnesota/Midwest
mattsk42 10-26-2006, 07:11 PM I noticed a lot more MN people on TB than I thought there was. I'm from SD originally, and there's almost none from there or ND. By midwest I don't mean Ohio or Indiana really. That's more "east" to me.
So, MN, WI, SD, ND, NE, IA, etc.
I'm sure we could get something together in the Minneapolis/St. Paul (Twin cities) area for a space. I might ask at a few music places, too. I'm sure they'd be interested in doing something. It seems there isn't a GREAT demand for bass gear here, so it'd be a good business opportunity.
Who's interested?
superbassman2000 10-30-2006, 11:37 AM this wouldn't be a horrible idea :)
DrMWP 10-30-2006, 11:46 AM I might be able to do something like that! Depending on Date/place of course.
I might be game too. It would be nice to go to someones gig too!!
mattsk42 10-30-2006, 05:17 PM Yeah, it would be fun to do that. Maybe we could get someone to do some kind of "workshop" or "clinic" too. I think it'd be fun to see everyone's gear. I've never played a Cirrus or Sadowsky or other high end stuff. If I can get some positive or for sure replies, we could figure out a location.
I was thinking Minneapolis/St. Paul for now since we could get a big building here and there's a few in the Metro area on TB.
mrpackerguy 10-30-2006, 06:36 PM Would love to, but it's a little too far for me. Not toally out of the question, though.
Toneonbass 10-30-2006, 06:43 PM I think I would be down...
IotaNet 10-30-2006, 08:38 PM Count me in!
Possible place would include:
American Guitar Boutique (In St. Paul, MN)
They have pretty decent gear and a beautiful shop and I know they've done clinics here before.
www.americanguitarboutique.com
Brickhouse Music (In River Falls, WI -- about 20 minutes from St. Paul)
They are a nice shop with a HUGE Fender Inventory. More importantly, they are ultra-nice folks and the bass guy, Clark, really knows his stuff. The place also has plenty of room! This would be my first choice.
www.brickhousemusic.com
Keep me in the loop on the planning!
mattsk42 10-30-2006, 09:33 PM Hey I was just going to check out the American Guitar Boutique actually. I guess either would be fine with me. I'm definitely in, anyone else have a suggestion? Anyone know someone to do a clinic?
joegeezer 10-30-2006, 10:06 PM Count me in on it. I get to the cities for a jam quite often.
edit: I haven't been to the River Falls store, but would like to see thier inventory, and get a chance to try out some new stuff. Sounds like thst would be the place for the room to crank it up a bit.
Can you guys PM me, and let me know where and when?? Defineately like to get in on the fun.
dustklose 10-30-2006, 10:58 PM i would definately b down for this
sounds like a great idea ... I am sure it would be a good opportunity to learn a lot ...
DrMWP 10-31-2006, 08:23 AM Another option might be Dave's Guitar in LaCrosse, WI. Big store, Fodera, EBMM, Aguilar dealer. I've heard great things about them.
superbassman2000 10-31-2006, 10:13 AM regardless of location, I would like to put in a vote for late spring/summer for the gtg--I would like to avoid driving through a blizzard if i can help it :)
teedub 10-31-2006, 10:24 AM My home's not too far from you guys...;)
DrMWP 10-31-2006, 10:45 AM regardless of location, I would like to put in a vote for late spring/summer for the gtg--I would like to avoid driving through a blizzard if i can help it :)
+1
Summer would be the only time I could get away.
mattsk42 10-31-2006, 10:45 AM I will definitely PM everyone who shows an interest in this thread, and make a new one with the details. I was thinking spring will be a good time, too, but the sooner we plan it, the more people we can get and the better it will go. Plus we can work out all the little details ahead of time.
brianbj46 10-31-2006, 11:00 AM i may be interested, i am from northfield, mn but am going to school in madison, wi. what exactly would a 'get together' consist of?
GrooveBass 10-31-2006, 11:18 AM Dave's Guitar in LaCrosse would definitly have enough space. I go there fairly often (whenever I'm in LaCrosse) and they do have a huge store. I also know for a fact that they have a room for rehersals and also have a collection of rare gui**** and amps upstairs, including a vintage blue sparkle tuck&roll cab and head set. Very Cool. I am in if it's close enough.
Bjazzman 11-04-2006, 02:22 PM I work at a Schmitt Music in a suburb of Minneapolis. The store is big and they have plenty of practice spaces we could use. If anyone is interested in having it here let me know. I really want to do this too even if it's not at Schmitt
Bjazzman 11-04-2006, 02:28 PM There are some good sized auditoriums there that could hold a lot of gear and people. (At Schmitt)
emblymouse 11-04-2006, 04:51 PM Hey from Madison way... I like Dave's for a couple reasons. Yes, he's got lots of cool stuff to oogle and none of it is for sale (so you don't have to worry about refinancing your house) and the tuck n' roll Kustom amp display is unique to say the least. It is also a couple of hours closer to me. I could actually make that trip. I'd bring my Clevinger EUB, Kubicki, and my Lakland USA Deluxe Scheff fretless. I had to go to Lakland/Chicago to get my hands on a USA model.

I would also imagine that they'd be very open to us having our GTG there. EVery time I've been there the staff was very cool and laid back -- almost TOO laid back.
(Click this link to check out "Daves Collection" -- it's AWESOME! (http://www.davesguitar.com/collection.html))
superbassman2000 11-06-2006, 08:17 PM La Crosse would be cool. I have a friend at UW-LAX who I could stay with :)
OpaqueBass 11-06-2006, 11:02 PM I know of an old ballroom in Rochester...
It's pretty big, and can be rented out cheap... $100 IIRC. Just another option, I guess.
lonote 11-09-2006, 07:00 AM I'm definitely interested. It would be fun for sure!
mrpackerguy 11-13-2006, 05:52 PM I could do Dave's in Lacrosse. I haven't been there but have pretty good connections to long time employees there through a good friend of mine.
JacoLesFlea 11-15-2006, 05:41 PM Lets do this thing...:hyper: :bassist: :hyper: :bassist:
mattsk42 11-19-2006, 04:08 PM I agree, PM anyone you know who hasn't responded to this. I never check this forum, so I could see how you could miss this.
OpaqueBass 11-19-2006, 09:51 PM So um... what are people thinking about this these days?
emblymouse 11-20-2006, 08:18 AM I could do Dave's in Lacrosse. I haven't been there but have pretty good connections to long time employees there through a good friend of mine.
We've got a couple thumbs up for Dave's in LaCrosse. mrpacker, you're the closest thing to an in there, could you check them out via your friends? Maybe they'd welcome a post Xmas event?

Sure. Will do. Whay would the expected attendance look like? ANy clue anyone?
mrpackerguy 11-27-2006, 06:54 PM Dave of Dave's Guitar Shop in LaCrossee "would be honored" to host our group. We just need to nail down a date and time and let him know how many.
I'll propose January 13th, a Saturday from 11-3.
What say you? If anyone could line up a clinician, that'd be great.
mrpackerguy 11-27-2006, 06:58 PM Dave's Guitar Shop in LaCrosse is a go and Dave would be "honored" to host us.
I propose January 13 from 11-3.
joegeezer 11-27-2006, 10:22 PM Sounds good. How about an address, and some directions from a freeway landmark spot or something like that. I'm about 4 hours away.
mrpackerguy 11-27-2006, 11:07 PM You got me. I'm in Madison and have never been to Dave's. I assume you can do a mapquest search.
iriegnome 11-28-2006, 12:09 PM I think I would like to come to that! LaCrosse is only 4 hours from me.
DETAILS and stuffffffff!!!:hyper: :hyper: :hyper:
mattsk42 11-28-2006, 12:31 PM OK, well Lacrosse is under 3 hours from the Cities, so I think that'd be ok for most people.
Anyone have an opinion on the date?
Anyone know a clinician or two who could come?
Reply if you're sure you can make it, too, so we can get a number.
mattvon 11-28-2006, 12:32 PM I like the sounds of that...only 2-1/2 hours from the Twin Cities. Never been to Dave's, heard it's great.
Keep us informed!
DrMWP 11-28-2006, 12:33 PM 1/13 no good for me, I'm in NYC for International Association for Jazz Education convention. Have Fun!!!!!!
mrpackerguy 11-28-2006, 12:58 PM Let's see how many responses we get for 1/13 or 1/20. I know that 1/13 doesn't work for you DrMWP.
I am OK on 1/13 and 1/20.
OpaqueBass 11-28-2006, 12:59 PM I'm definitely there. Dave's just a little over an hour for me. The 13th should work for me; but my schedule is pretty flexible anyway.
[EDIT]: I could do the 20th as well.
mattsk42 11-28-2006, 01:04 PM I can definitely be there the 20th, but not the 13th.
lonote 11-28-2006, 01:10 PM The 13th works better for me. I've never been to Dave's but I've been meaning to get over there sometime and this is as good an excuse as any ("Oh no honey, I won't be buying anything.").
Wesley R 11-28-2006, 02:01 PM Wesley R.
emblymouse 11-28-2006, 07:03 PM Thanks to Mrpg! Either date is OK with me.
I know a little bar down the block w/ killer burgers and brewery fresh suds.
mrpackerguy 11-28-2006, 09:27 PM Thanks to Mrpg! Either date is OK with me.
I know a little bar down the block w/ killer burgers and brewery fresh suds.
Eggscellent!
C'mon MN, WI, ND, IA guys...where are you?
joegeezer 11-28-2006, 10:12 PM I'm in , on either date. Have you PM'd all the guys who first posted on this thread? That would be the first way to start getting responses. Alot of guys have a life, and don't have the time to check this site, like the rest of us losers. It's a joke. Don't get mad at me.
KeiBau 11-28-2006, 10:24 PM OK, would be possible for me regarding time and distance. I'm about 2 hours from the Twin cities and about 2 hours 15 minutes from La Crosse. Not sure if the dates will work out for me yet though. Will keep checking the thread for further developments. If this were held in the Twin Cities, I have relatives to stay with in West St. Paul and White Bear Lake.
superbassman2000 11-29-2006, 03:45 PM I can probably be there if its 1/13
Charlie
OpaqueBass 11-29-2006, 04:08 PM I'm there.
emblymouse 11-29-2006, 07:59 PM 13th, ya mo B there
mattsk42 12-02-2006, 12:39 PM I don't think I can be there on the 13th. I'll try, but I'm all the way over in Pierre for my Christmas break, so it'd be like 10 hours to get there unless I cut my break short and come back to the Cities. (which I probably won't) :(
I'm still up for organizing this and getting it going, though! Anyone know of a performer/clinician that could come? Or a very good guitarist/drummer who would let the bass be the spotlight? People could also put this thread in their sig and mention it in other forums. I don't check this one very often.
mrpackerguy 12-02-2006, 04:39 PM OK guys. It's looking pretty light right now. I'm going to keep this post as a head count subject to change:
Those who are coming on 1/13 appear to be:
mrpackerguy
emblymouse
opaquebass
joegeezer
iotanet
superbassman2000
mrpackerguy 12-02-2006, 04:42 PM Still need guys to attend. C'mon,. don't let Chicago, LA and NY outdo us Midwesterners!
Post here or on the other Mpls/WI GTG thread.
mrpackerguy 12-02-2006, 06:27 PM Gents -- count me in!
By the way -- I suggest that everyone copy my signature (less the "IotaNet" part, of course) into theirs so that eveyone who sees you post on TB will be able to get info about the GTG.
I know a guy -- my instructor, Ian Allison.
He is an awesome bassist and an excellent teacher. He's also a gear whore!
I don't know what his schedule is but he might be willing to come through.
Great! I'll put you down and check into Ian as a clinician for 30min-1 hr.
mrpackerguy 12-02-2006, 06:29 PM :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:
Dave's going to hold the GTG in his upstairs private guitar museum. For those of you who don't know, Dave has one of the finer vintage guitar collections!
joegeezer 12-02-2006, 07:29 PM I hope there's a potty up there, for this crippled old fart. It takes me quite a while to get up and down stairs, one step at a time.
joegeezer 12-02-2006, 07:30 PM Have we decided which day it is going to be now??
Ltrain 12-02-2006, 09:42 PM Is this an old thread or am I just 4 years too late?
The post dates say 2006 - Hmmm
I hope there's a potty up there, for this crippled old fart. It takes me quite a while to get up and down stairs, one step at a time.
Joe, we could just fire up an old Harley and let you get up and down that way ... I read that you know your way up and down pretty good on one of them ... :)
mrpackerguy 12-03-2006, 06:50 AM Is this an old thread or am I just 4 years too late?

Ltrain 12-03-2006, 07:21 PM I stand corrected. What year is HE living in?
Hahaha - believe me, it could as just as easily have been me - this old brain ain't what it used to be.
Ltrain 12-03-2006, 07:24 PM I am a fairly new bass player ( less than a year ) but I may try to go to this thing. I'll have to see what's going on but I am going to put it on my calendar. I can be in LaCrosse in a few hours.
mattsk42 12-03-2006, 08:16 PM Yeah, it doesn't matter if you're good or bad, young, old, whatever. It's just a fun time for all!

artiseasy 12-05-2006, 12:52 AM Hey guys!
My name is Ian Allison and it looks like I'll be presenting on the 13th at Dave's. I'm excited - and very flattered to be asked. Thanks so much to Dwayne (IotaNet) for the invitation.
I guess I just wanted to introduce myself, talk about what I'm going to be presenting, and put it out there that if you guys have any feedback for me - about what I may want to include in the clinic, etc, I'm all ears.
I've been living and playing in Minneapolis, MN now for about 9 years. I do session work at several studios, play in a host of different projects that cover jazz, gospel, metal, and pop, and write jingles for two different music advertising agencies. Currently, I'm the chair of the bass department at a small private college in Minneapolis called North Central University (NCU). I've developed and am constantly revising a curriculum for my students that focuses on applied theory, timekeeping, stylistic breadth, reading, and ear training. Most recently I've been doing some freelance work for Lakland Basses - recording all of their instruments over multiple genres of music for their website. I also will be shooting a video for Lakland that will demonstrate their new pickup/preamp combo and compare it against the older Bart system and against a vintage Jazz bass, a vintage P bass, and a Stingray. This is going to happen in two weeks so I'll have a full report for everyone at Dave's!
For the presentation, I have several ideas that I wanted to run by everyone that plans to attend. I believe that all great playing is founded on some very basic elements of time and theory. With this in mind, I'd like to talk about my concept of grooving - which involves a discussion/demonstration of keeping a sense of a solid pulse through anything that you play, with whatever technique you use – drummer or no drummer! Stemming from this, I’d talk about ways to construct and execute the concept of “backbeat” in your grooves. Also, I’d like to discuss practicing theory – modes, arpeggios, etc. in a musical way and offer some ideas on how to combine the groove aspect with theoretical aspect of practicing and playing. Additionally, I would like to talk about doing session work, what’s expected of you as a session bassist, and how my experiences led me to the project I’m doing for Lakland.
So there you go guys! Let me know how this sounds to you and please feel free to make comments/suggestions about how we can make this a fun and successful get-together.
I can’t wait.
Thanks so much,
Ian Allison
OpaqueBass 12-05-2006, 02:33 AM So Ian... How about pulling some strings with my NCU application? :D I kid. My old guitarist has been begging me to come up in the spring to do a jazz/blues trio.
Anyway...
As far as what you've said, it sounds like it should be a great presentation. I'm looking forward to this even more now. I've heard a lot of people rave about, well... you.
mrpackerguy 12-05-2006, 07:09 AM This sounds fantastic!
mrpackerguy 12-05-2006, 07:11 AM I'm thrilled to announce that our GTG (only about 6 guys so far) will feature a clinic by Ian Allison. Find out more about and meet Ian in the GTG thread here
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=291207
C'mon guys - no reason to miss out now!
IotaNet 12-05-2006, 02:32 PM Gents -
The Minnesota/Wisconsin GTG has been arranged and all systems are go!
Here are the details:
Minnesota/Wisconsin GTG
January 13, 2007 * 11 am - 3 pm
Dave's Guitar Shop
(On Dave's "Personal Collection" (http://www.davesguitar.com/collection.html)Level)
1227 South 3rd Street
La Crosse, Wisconsin
Click Here for a map & directions (http://maps.yahoo.com/py/maps.py?BFCat=&Pyt=Tmap&newFL=Use+Address+Below&addr=1227+S.+Third+St.&csz=54601&country=us&Get%A0Map=Get+Map)
For those who aren't familiar, A GTG is nothing more than a bunch of Talkbassers getting together (imagine that!) to hang out, check out each other's gear, do some playing, and generally have a good time.
You don't have to be any particular age (we got youngsters & oldsters), or any particular skill level. All you need is a desire to come and hang out for a while!
As a bonus, we wll have a clinic conducted by Ian Allison, Minneapolis-based Bass Instructor, composer, and all-around good guy! (He's my instructor and he can play his butt off!)

If you like what you see, RSVP via the poll and mark your calendar!
Come check us out -- we look forward to seeing you there!
mrpackerguy 12-05-2006, 05:46 PM Thanks Dwayne - this is lookin good!
Mcrelly 12-05-2006, 07:46 PM its a bit far for me. I'd be possibly interested in a GT in or closer to Minneapolis!
m.
mattsk42 12-05-2006, 07:55 PM Where are you at? You need to put it in your location instead of just "Minnesota".
I would think that some of you guys could carpool as long as it's just a few hour event anyway. I'd help carpool if I was around, but I don't think I can make it as of now. I'll be able to tell for sure in January sometime.
joegeezer 12-05-2006, 08:49 PM Unless there's a blizzard, I'll be there. Bad time of year for traveling, but I guess I've done alot worse.
Wesley R 12-05-2006, 09:41 PM to get there. My leash is short and I have been a bad guy.
Best of Luck,
Wes
I would be a definite ... hope to ... sorry I cant be more confirming, but my dad is supposed to have surgery for skin cancer sometime around mid Jan ... I wont know more until they set the actual appt and time ... thank you for asking, posting and organizing ... it sounds extremely informative ... tom
Alan Vorse 12-06-2006, 08:02 AM Can't confirm just yet, but very interested in attending. I'll keep you posted.
high mileage 12-06-2006, 08:24 AM ^^^What he said... I'd really like to go and so far the weekend is open but I can't commit just yet - couple of January gigs in the works.
I'd say that whatever Ian wants to present would be very beneficial. I've been playing for a long time but I'm that doesn't necessarily mean anything about my skill level :) . I'm sure I'll learn a lot.
Never been to a bass GTG - do people usually bring instruments? I've got a jazz copy I've been working on and am pretty happy with it, but I'm curious to see what other players would think of it so that's probably what I'd bring.

You can bring your instrument if you like -- most people bring at least one. Some folks bring their main axe, some people bring one that they'd like to show off, some like to bring one to compare to others -- it's entirely up to you!
I will probably bring:
* One of my Barkers
* My Lakland 55-63
I may also bring my Lakland 55-01 with the Audere preamp since a lot of folks are curious about the Auderes.
superflybass 12-06-2006, 09:44 AM so far I have that date free if my band doesa not book that one I will try to be there
Daves is a great store. Dave and his staff are great
I believe Tim M is the bass guy there ( dudes like owned every type of bass out there) he is very in the know of basses :hyper:
I lived in La Crosse for 8 years it is a great town
if you all need ideas of where to go to eat or drink later that night just ask I know all of the great places to go
mrpackerguy 12-06-2006, 09:50 AM Never been to a bass GTG - do people usually bring instruments? I've got a jazz copy I've been working on and am pretty happy with it, but I'm curious to see what other players would think of it so that's probably what I'd bring.
I've got a gig that night just north of Marshfield at a nice bar, the Country Aire in Stratford. I am for sure bringing my new-to-me Skyline Lakland Glaub and my MM Stingray. I wasn't going to bring my '79 MM Sabre, but could if guys wanted to see it or play it. I've also got one of those Dargie Delight MM Martini basses on order, but I don't think it'll have arrived in time for the GTG.
OpaqueBass 12-06-2006, 11:33 AM I'll bring my Metro, since well... it's pretty much what I've got.
Joe P 12-06-2006, 11:52 AM I think I would like to come to that! LaCrosse is only 4 hours from me.
DETAILS and stuffffffff!!!:hyper: :hyper: :hyper:Ohh!
I'd love to do this!
Joe - Menomonee Falls, WI USA
samurai_24 12-06-2006, 04:09 PM This sounds fun - I'll try to make it!
Ltrain 12-06-2006, 07:35 PM I have this on my calendar and an 90% sure I can make it. I live in northwestern Illinois ( Moline, Illinois ) and will traveling up through the Dubuque, Iowa area and the west side of Wisconsin. If anyone along that route needs a ride let me know.
LowBnDuluth 12-07-2006, 12:44 AM I would love to be there, but I am finishing up a Luthier School at that time.
Any plans of doing another GTG later on
Joe P 12-07-2006, 08:21 AM Yup.
Joe
mrpackerguy 12-07-2006, 05:51 PM Hats off to Dwayne (iotanet) and everyone who is making this thing come together. It's going to be a great event. We're up to 11 so far!
Ryan L. 12-08-2006, 05:47 AM So, is this open to North Dakota Tbers too?? :)
(I'm afraid right now I can't bring too much fancy stuff--I sold my Roscoes, and all I have now is an '06 MM Stingray 4 and an '03 Cirrus 5.:hmm: )

mattsk42 12-08-2006, 12:51 PM It's funny you ask, because that's really kind of what I started the idea with. I'm from SD, so we have about as FEW of opportunities as you do up there. Definitely come down, PM me on when you're planning on leaving, and maybe we can carpool, or at least drive part of the way together. I'd possibly be coming from Pierre.
Also, for all you MN people. Check out this non-related thread!
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=293631
Don't worry, I'll delete it after this Sunday so it won't derail the GTG thread.
Does anyone have any food/drink plans? Possibly order some pizzas? I know they talked about stuff like that in the other GTGs.
mrpackerguy 12-08-2006, 06:17 PM 1200 view and 11 attendees. Believe it or not, I'm happy with that.
mattsk42 12-08-2006, 10:45 PM Hey, don't forget that I'm a "maybe" at this point, and there's lots of time between now and the GTG for others to join up! Hey, you get a free clinic, can't complain about that even if it's just two of you.
joegeezer 12-09-2006, 11:00 PM I have this on my calendar and an 90% sure I can make it. I live in northwestern Illinois ( Moline, Illinois ) and will traveling up through the Dubuque, Iowa area and the west side of Wisconsin. If anyone along that route needs a ride let me know.
Thats really a cool drive. If you have never gone that road, just wait till you get to the hills by Buena Vista! as the name says, Wow, what a fantastic view of the river bluffs. Guttenburg, is a super cool, kinda hidden in the valley, town too. I love that drive!
GrooveBass 12-11-2006, 05:13 AM If there's any way I can get the 13th off, I'm gonna do it, but my job pretty much freezes the scheduling in December and January because of holiday stuff. Ya know what the real pain is tho? I'm only about a 45 minute drive away from Dave's and I was all geared up to check out all the gear that will most likely show up. Sometimes I think I'd be better off to just quit my job!!! Anyway, have a heckuva time and remember, they started out of a seedy little "adult book" store. Just goes to show ya I guess. Long story short, I won't be there.
lonote 12-11-2006, 09:32 AM I had been planning to go but, duty calls. We just booked a house party gig on the 13th, a fundraiser for our trip to Memphis in February. It is an early gig so I can't make it...damn!
morebass! 12-14-2006, 12:18 PM Would love to but can't. Gig that night in Madison and too short of a leash anyway. Have fun! Maybe we can do one down here someday.
emblymouse 12-16-2006, 03:48 PM I'm thinking about what I might bring. It's all good, as they say, why don't you go to my website and tell me what you'd like to get your hands on.
Also, what about amps? I wonder if Dave's would let us demo some merch? I might bring a small set up anyway...

Also, what about amps? I wonder if Dave's would let us demo some merch? I might bring a small set up anyway... Defintely the Kubicki and the '67. I'll probably bring all my 3: '79 Sabre all original, Lakland Skyline Glaub and my Stingray.
I'll find out about amplification.
vegaas 12-18-2006, 06:27 PM If we dont have a snow storm I will be there. Nothing fancy to bring, all I have right now is Spector Euro Neckthrough 4 and a Cirrus 5. But it should be fun.
bill h 12-18-2006, 06:46 PM I don't post much here anymore, but I would love to go to this. I have a JAF I could bring. Someone PM the main info please Thanks

Rawk Bassist 12-20-2006, 10:11 AM So I just joined this community, though I've been reading the message boards here for a few weeks and been paying particular attention to this thread. Kudos to the people who planned this thing! I don't know what I'll be up to yet that weekend, but if I have it free, I will try to get down there. Everyone says its a cool store and just sounds like a good event. I haven't ever been to anything like this, so it does sound interesting for sure.
RAWK!
mrpackerguy 12-20-2006, 10:49 AM "You can use any bass amps in the store, no problem. They should be listed on our website"
Here's the link to the bass amp's currently at Dave's:

Ooh - yeah! Still trying to make it and it looks good. If I do make it, I'll probably bring my snazzy new Low End double bag with two something or others... Probably the Jazz I mentioned and maybe the Bongo 5H?
I'm thinking about getting a room and driving back the next morning, any suggestions for cheap and decent hotels in the area?

Can't help you too much because I don't know LaX that well, but I have stayed at a Microtel that was nice and reasonable as you first come into town from I-94. There are several hotels near there and on towards the big mall.
emblymouse 12-23-2006, 09:23 AM I'm thinking about getting a room and driving back the next morning, any suggestions for cheap and decent hotels in the area?
I played a wedding in LaCrosse and we were put up at a place called the Guest House. It's an older downtown motel, walking distance from Daves with a little restaraunt off the lobby that serves a good breakfast. I don't know the rates but I'm guessing on the cheap side.
Ok, I've got requests for the Kubicki and ye old Jazz. I'm also bringing my Clevinger EUB. 8 string? Lakie Scheff fretless? Everything?
mrpackerguy 12-23-2006, 03:09 PM Ok, I've got requests for the Kubicki and ye old Jazz. I'm also bringing my Clevinger EUB. 8 string? Lakie Scheff fretless? Everything?I'm happy with just the Kubicki and the Jazz
jasonbraatz 01-01-2007, 01:18 PM I think I'm going to try to make it!
edit: Aside from my rack I don't really have anything cool to bring. :-/
mrpackerguy 01-01-2007, 02:05 PM That's great Jason.
I've got a sonic blue/rw Fender Jazz 5'er on the way and could bring that, too, but there will already be a vintage jazz there.
emblymouse 01-02-2007, 09:41 AM I've seen you play Jason, and I'd say just your own bad self is cool enough.
I think Im good to make it this time, should I bring the Brice 8 string Or the Hamer double cutaway sfx...and my cameras
mrpackerguy 01-03-2007, 07:17 AM Bring your interesting stuff. I'll bring my camera, too.
jasonbraatz 01-03-2007, 09:19 AM I've seen you play Jason, and I'd say just your own bad self is cool enough.
:o
I mean, I have a station wagon, so I *could* bring my DB680/DB728 rig if anyone wants to give it a go. I won't bring any cabs as Dave's has Aggie cabs.
I can probably squeeze two basses into my car along with that thing, so should I bring the SX 4 with Nordstrands + badass, the stock SX5, or my incoming Ibanez GWB35?
The SX 4 with Nordstrands!!!!!.....my vote
IotaNet 01-03-2007, 08:02 PM That's a good question -- what DO you guys want to see?
* Barker Fretless?
* Sadowsky RV4?
* Lakland 55-63?
* Lakland JO5 P/J Custom? (Yep, you read that right! :smug: )
I'd like to bring only two ... let me know what you guys would like to see/play. :hyper:

I'll play along, too. Here's what I got and prolly only bring two:
*79 Musicman Sabre maple/maple
*97 Musicman Stingray maple/rw
*00 Lakland Skyline Glaub maple/rw
*96 Fender US Jazz 5'er maple/rw
Interceptor 01-03-2007, 08:58 PM Dang it.
I'm in the same boat as morebass.
I'd of brought a Low End True Voice and a really good video camera.
Next time.
OpaqueBass 01-03-2007, 10:16 PM I guess I'll just bring my Sadowsky MV-5 and, if I'm finished with it, an Ibanez project I've been working on.
If anyone is interested, I can bring an Aggie AG500SC (Dave's has a dual-channel in stock though...). I should also have a cab next week too. Either a GS112 or DB210.
*shrug* I might also be able to bring a pretty decent video camera.

Bring the Barker and I'll bring my Clevinger- we can have a weird ass upright showdown(or is that hoedown?)
Also,I don't know from Sadowski- I'd love to compare one to a Lakland.
high mileage 01-06-2007, 08:46 PM I'm officially in! Looking forward to it after finally recovering from a nasty cold, then the check engine light came on in the car but that was an easy fix today. I think I'll take off after the GTG but thanks anyway for the hotel info. I'll be there with the Bongo 5H '06 LE and Signature j-bass (as seen on ebay) with Audere pre amp.
SX4 with Norstrands? Very cool!
ogrossman 01-07-2007, 03:18 PM I'm thinking about taking the train from the Twin Cities to La Crosse; anybody else interested? It leaves St. Paul @ 7:50 AM and arrives in La Crosse at 10:47 AM. You can catch a return train that evening at 7:14 PM or take the 7:14 PM train back on the 14th. It looks like Dave's is about 1.5 miles from the train station so I'm hoping there's a bus or something. The round trip fare is $58. I'm actually planning to continue on to Chicago the next day...
BTW, I'd appreciate any tips for decent, cheep lodging in La Crosse.
Thanks,
Owen
high mileage 01-07-2007, 05:06 PM BTW, I'd appreciate any tips for decent, cheep lodging in La Crosse.
Check page 6 (this is 7) for two options. I don't know LaCrosse but had thought about spending the night myself. One is right near Dave's.
peabody 01-07-2007, 11:10 PM I assume this is still on for the 13th. I feel really bad because I'm like one of the few guys who actually lives in La Crosse, and it looks like I'm probably going to miss it. I'm afraid my wife has been pretty sick for the last couple of months, and my Saturdays are definitely my "family time."
Make sure everyone brings a towel, because once you catch a glimpse of Dave Roger's personal guitar collection, you will definitely be drooling.
If you guys need anything, let me know. I can drop off some of my stuff if anyone wants to try anything out....
Lakland Dude Pit Limited Edition II (Bob Glaub with a DarkStar P/U)
Lakland Skyline Duck Dunn
Lakland Skyline JO with a P/J configuration (currently for sale, so it may or may not be around)
Mesa Big Block 750
Mesa Walkabout
Aggie cabs...GS212 or GS112 (Dave only has a GS410 on the floor right now)
If anyone has any specific questions about lodging, locations, etc...just let me know. I'll help out wherever I can.
Just let me know. Remember...have fun!
Dave
RobinBetton 01-08-2007, 01:20 AM hey everybody,
Looks like this get together thing is pretty cool. As a La Crosse Native this idea sounds awesome. I just wish i wasn't at school! All the guys at Dave's are awesome. Over the years i've gotten to know the guys that work there. They're all good people. I've been glad to make a good friend in Tim Mullally the "bass guy" at dave's. Along with my teacher Richard Davis, Tim has tought me some of the most important musical lessons that I carry with me today.
I hope the get together goes well! Please post your comments on the results. i hope they're will be video!
mrpackerguy 01-08-2007, 11:08 AM I've communicated now both with Tim and Laun at Dave's Guitar in LaCrosse and we're set. There are two remaining things:
1) Do we need a small PA? Dave's offered to set one up.
2) Who can bring some munchies? Chips, cheese, sausage, crackers - we have the OK to order in some subs or pizza.
mrpackerguy 01-08-2007, 11:21 AM I'm bringing my near-mint Candy Apple Red (a discontinued color) Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub to the GTG at Dave's and it's for trade or sale.
I'm really wanting a sunburst semi-hollow ASAT with a Rosewood board or possibly some other semi-hollow ASAT or maybe even a nice L2000 with a rw board. Could also be tempted by a non-black Bongo 4. If anyone has one they were thinking of getting rid of, bring it to the GTG. Otherwise we can talk price offline or at Dave's if anyone would be interested. Comes with a semi-hard gator case.
bill h 01-08-2007, 01:55 PM Sorry to say, but I will not be able to make it. I have had some things come up.
basey 01-09-2007, 01:32 AM This is great. I love Dave's, although my wife gets nervous when I go there.:D
I'm going to bring my two homemade basses and a camera.
Would anyone be interested in me bringing my pod pro/mesa 400+ rack?
lemme know.
emblymouse 01-09-2007, 08:52 AM 2) Who can bring some munchies? Chips, cheese, sausage, crackers - we have the OK to order in some subs or pizza.
I'll bring a dozen assorted beverages.
OpaqueBass 01-09-2007, 10:02 AM Who can bring some munchies? Chips, cheese, sausage, crackers - we have the OK to order in some subs or pizza.
I can bring some Propel (a 24-pack if I remember right). We're stocked up at my place.
*shrug* it's all I've got at the moment.
superbassman2000 01-09-2007, 01:27 PM hey everyone, i won't be able to make it, i couldn't get off for work, and i have a gig that night!
I really wish i could be there--it sounds like its going to be a fun time :)
mrpackerguy 01-09-2007, 04:03 PM Who can bring some munchies? Chips, cheese, sausage, crackers - we have the OK to order in some subs or pizza. I'll bring a few pounds of cheese, sausage and crackers. Other assorted munchies appreciated. Thinking we can order subs or something for delivery.
Joe P 01-10-2007, 11:40 AM I'll bring a few pounds of cheese, sausage and crackers. Other assorted munchies appreciated. Thinking we can order subs or something for delivery. Are a few of us maybe going to go out-on-the-town for a bit afterwards?
Joe
mrpackerguy 01-10-2007, 11:50 AM I'd love to go out on the town afterward, but I have to drive to over by Marshfield for a gig.:crying:
OpaqueBass 01-10-2007, 01:05 PM Well... there's a possiblity I won't be making it. I'm in the process of moving up to Minneapolis for school (just got the final word today...).
Just a heads up.
joegeezer 01-10-2007, 06:29 PM I wanted to come real bad, but after some health problems around Christmas, alas, the wallet is empty. Hope to make the next one, if I'm still kickin.
Nappa 01-11-2007, 11:07 PM Wish i could come, but i need the gas and the gas money right now :bawl:
so :bassist: without me!
later
mrpackerguy 01-12-2007, 09:04 AM I'm having internet connectivity problems at home so this is probably my last post on this topic.
See you guys tomorrow!
high mileage 01-12-2007, 12:42 PM Weather looks good and I'll see you guys tomorrow. I plan on cutting out after the clinic because of the 3-1/2 hour return trip... :hmm:
Here's a map to Dave's (http://www.davesguitar.com/contact.html) if you need it.
jasonbraatz 01-12-2007, 05:07 PM I don't think I'm going to end up taking my rack...I think my tubes are biased funky and probably need replacement as they're the original Svets.
Now I have enough room to bring three basses, though.
Have fun this weekend, guys. I won't be there, but my buddy (and Chicago native) Dwayne will be there. He should have some interesting things for you to check out. :)
mrpackerguy 01-12-2007, 06:48 PM My i-net connection is back. Checking in a couple more times before leaving in the morning.
Haven't found a trade yet for my CAR Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub so I'm bringing it.
high mileage 01-12-2007, 07:49 PM Well crap. Just went out for pizza and my old friend, the check engine light, is back. It's probably nothing worth worrying about but I don't want to chance a 7 hour road trip without knowing what the problem is. :( Bummer.
So - take lots of pictures. I expect a full report!
jasonbraatz 01-12-2007, 09:11 PM Also dudes, this is THE PLACE to hit up if you get there a little early.

joegeezer 01-13-2007, 08:04 PM Since I couldn't make it there, I sure am looking forward to a full report, and some pics from you guys. Hope it was a blast!

i don't know if the place is still open? it might be? they're rebuilding it. it's going to be mr. D's connected with a bank. crazy
jasonbraatz 01-14-2007, 10:10 AM I found out far too late that Mr D's is now a HOLE IN THE GROUND!
:crying:
Also, the G2G was pretty sweet! Lots of cool basses including more Laklands than you could shake a stick at. That Lakland hollowbody
I didn't take any pictures or anything though. :(
mrpackerguy 01-14-2007, 12:59 PM Thanks to everyone who made the MN/WI GTG a success, from the locale and the folks there to the basses and especially to the guys. How cool was it to hold our GTG surrounded by a couple mil worth of vintage guitars! No doubt we should do it again sometime soon. Jason, maybe you and I can set the next one up for Madison and maybe draw in some Milwaukke folks this time.
Anxiously waiting Dwayne's pictures.
IotaNet 01-14-2007, 01:06 PM Thanks to everyone who made the MN/WI GTG a success ... Anxiously waiting Dwayne's pictures.Yesterday was GREAT!
As I mentioned, I won't be home until tomorrow afternoon -- I should have some pics up by tomorrow night.
artiseasy 01-14-2007, 10:55 PM Hey all,
I just wanted to chime in and tell you all how much I enjoyed the GTG! Thanks so much for listening to me play and pontificate. I genuinely enjoyed meeting everyone.
Dwayne, you're killing me with that Dowsky!
Tom - you're killing me with EVERY BASS YOU BROUGHT!
Great fun - hopefully we'll get to do it again sometime soon!
Thanks guys.
Ian
OpaqueBass 01-14-2007, 11:15 PM ...still pissed I wasn't there.
