after compare many 5stringbass such as sadowsky,fbass,etc
i'm pretty sure roscoe is my fav...:cool:
but i'm getting confused to choose the wood and electronic combo...
i love to play jazz (fusion,swing),funk,gospel and rock too...
i want to have modern bass with smoothy vintage vibe...(versatile)
i love jazzbass but sometimes, it sounds to thin for me...i need more low mid...
btw basso's roscoe electronic combo is nice...:p :p :p

For the most part, the "Roscoe tone" has a lot to do with the neck and pickups (Bartolini), so if you've tried one before and liked it, chances are you're going to like another one even with different specs. There are differneces tonally between the wood combinations, but it's more subtle than others. I would to say that the Roscoe recipe (at one point) had to be Maple top/Spanish Cedar body/Purpleheart FB.

Having said, and being the owner of around 12 Roscoes to date, my taste seems to go to Ash for the bodies and either Wenge or Mac EBony for the FB. This combination gives me snap but it's not overly bright which allows me to use my eq when needed.

THe preamps are honestly all very good. The Demeter really "cleans" up the sound and seems to be my personal favorite, but I also really like the Aguilar as well. The Bart seems to have the best mid response, and is a great choice for fretless.

I really like the Spanish cedar bodies though. If I was to only have one Roscoe, I'd go with:

*Spanish cedar body
*Bart p/u's
*Demeter pre
*African tulipwood (of the 9 Roscoe's I've owned, it has the most even sound up and down the neck)
*top wood - your choice (I don't think it matters much sound wise)

As Halftooth stated though, although you can fine tune the sound with various woods and electronics, it'll still have that classic Roscoe sound.

I haven't heard (in person) a Roscoe with the Nordstand pickups. I'm very curious to hear that combo........

but there is no roscoe dealer in my country(indonesia) so i can not try it before buy...:crying:

The Roscoe neck just feels like home to me. Home.
