I'm one of the OC (original customers) of TPB, so I thought I'd chime in here.. The first time I visited TPB, James still had everything in boxes. He unpacked darn near every bass he had in stock to let me try 'em all out. He was very patient and extremely helpful. As his business has grown of the last couple of years, he hasn't changed one bit. He'll bend over backwards to get YOU exactly what YOU want, and he'll make sure it's RIGHT before you get it.

If you've never dealt with James before, I can assure you that you're dealing with a first class person and businessman.

..and Robert. Although he's a guitar player, he isn't half bad himself.

I went in there the other day. They were really helpful and James enjoyed showing me around their store. He was even seeing what free stuff he could give me. Guitar center never gave me anything for free. Its nice to see a local business like that succeed on a national level.

...how much did James pay you for that post???

:hiding:

:D

Yeah, James is a good dude, no doubt, we had a great time when he came up to visit the shop here in Greensboro back in January.

Robert on the other hand...well, I guess he's OK for a guitarist.... :spit:

Aw heck, I'd've done it for 5lbs!

Yeah, he does take good care of us RCA's, don't he? He sent us a care package at Christmas, lots of Tony C's, Tobasco (both the regular and the jalapeno versions), and even some of the injector kits for fried turkeys (which didn't get used, as no one here has a pot big enough to fry one! :D )

Hey, where do you think I stole that "rockin'" smile up there from? Robert, of course...yeah, he's OK, he can stay...

On America's Funniest Videos (or some show like that) some guy sank a turkey in vat of oil that was too hot and the bird burst into flames. Then, to add insult to injury, the rack that was holding the pot o' flaming fowl fell over and everything went into the fire.

I bet they had Domino's for Thanksgiving.

I'm a little late on this thread, but I think James is one heckuva guy. In early 2005 I was having trouble with a Spector and I talked to him several times on the phone about the bass' issues. He was very patient with me even though I was unable to make the long drive to have him look at my bass. If I am ever in the area, I'm stopping to have a look at his shop and perhaps even walk away with one of those sweet MTD fretless fivers!

I stopped by TPB in May of last year when they hosted Norm Stockton's Groovin' for Heaven clinic. James was a fantastic host and made me feel very welcome (despite having a horrendously busy weekend!) and I had a blast just hanging out, chatting, trying out some of the scrummy basses they had in stock. Ultra-nice guy with a really great attitude.

Nice to see your presence here James. Hope things are going well for ya!

Take care, God bless.

I live about a mile away from these guys. Very nice folks. You need blinders when you walk in so you won't trip over your own feet! Wow! It's really a treat to be able to play all those great basses right here in town. They don't mind you spending all day and they don't seem to mind wiping the drool off the basses... ;)

After having dropped in on Brandt and James last week when I was on vacation, I dropped the hammer today on a thuya-topped Roscoe LG-3005 and a fabulous Glockenklang Heart Rock amp.

When I showed up at the store, Gard had already given them fair warning, so Brandt ID'd me right off the bat. I spent over an hour checking out their inventory (which was spectacular) and playing an LG-3005 through that Glock. Brandt spent a lot of time showing me the store, with no sales pitches at all. After a lot of enlightening chat with Brandt, James finally got off the phone, and I spent about the next half hour shooting the breeze with him and solving many of the world's problems. That's about how late I was to dinner after the hour-long drive back to Mandeville.

I knew when I left the store that these were people I'd be doing business with. Very friendly and helpful. No offense to Dave and Beaver (with whom I've also had some great dealings) but you've got some stiff comp rising up in Baton Rouge. It's cool to have so many excellent stores out there.

It was a real pleasure, you guys. Thanks.

Let me tell you about my experience with these guys. I actually contacted James about trying to find a new bass rig that was lighter than my Ampeg refrigerator. After learning what type of music I played and the type of tone that I like, he directed me towards Eden amps and cabs. His favorite is Glockenklang, but he didn't even try to sell me on that brand. He knew Eden was more suited to my needs. I started by buying an Eden D410XLT cab. I loved it so much that I got another one along with the new WT1205 amp head. What a dream rig. The service was incredible. I've talked or dealt with many other Big Bass Stores and they don't come close in service or any other aspect of business. Most stores want to make a sale. These guys want you to be happy, and trust me, if you aren't happy, you need therapy.

After my new amp aquisition, I started to get G.A.S. again. James had just gotten in the Roscoe TPB limited edition basses. James is Roscoe's biggest advocate. So I drove to Baton Rouge and he and Brandt took the time to let me try them out. I went home with a beautiful tobacco sunburst with a Bolivian rosewood fretboard. Wow does this thing have tone, punch, great looks, and a B-string to die for. You really need to hear a Roscoe bass played through and Eden rig. Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've also been talking Lakland with James and Brandt. Between conversations with Brandt and John P. at Lakland, we were able to find another bass that I "needed" to take care of old school music tones. It will be arriving very soon. If these guys can't satisfy your bass needs, then you need to consider seeing a doctor about your G.A.S.

I just have to thank Brandt at TPB for a great buying experience. It's the first time I've purchased a bass without seeing or playing it . Brandt was willing to answer all my questions that I sent via email or asked over the phone. After I decided to pull the trigger, the bass was shipped right away. All I can say is when my MTD Z5 arrived I was more than thrilled. It looks great and plays like a dream...So I have to also give cudos to Michael Tobias for making a wonderful instrument with an unbelievable price.

Thanks Guys!!!

Thanks to everyone at The Perfect Bass.

I just wanted to post a few lines congratulating James and his team at TPB for such an incredible level of commitment to your customers. The 2 times I have bought from them its always been an incredible pleasurable experience, with top notch products and great customer service. Friendly, curteous, professional and competitive pricing are the adjectives I would use to describe my experience with TBP, James and his team. Kudos to a great store and my best to the fine people that work there!

PS. The PJB Briefcase has to be one OF THE BEST small combo amps out there...audiphile quality and some serious power for such a small unit. Thank you James for the advice!

i have to agree. i picked up one of the briefcases during the halloween sale and had some problems with fedex on delivery day. i was eagerly tracking my shipment expecting to use the briefcase for a project that weekend, when i found out fedex didn't leave the amp at my residence as i had specified, the guys at theperfectbass followed up with me during the day and helped out to ensure that i was able to get the amp when expected. 100% positive experience...great folks to work with!

So, I'm gazing around the ole Internet last night (thanks to Al Gore for such a wonderful invention), and about 10:30 last night I send an email and a PM to James asking him about a bass they show as in stock. I wanted to see if I could call dibs on it. I told him I would have gone ahead and used the website checkout, but I had left my credit card at the office. So I'd call him tomorrow (which is now today) and get it all squared away.

What to my surprise the guy responds to me about 11:15 last night. I'm not sure why, but how cool is it (and completely unexpected) to be doing business at 11:15 at night. So, I finalize the deal last night, and got a nice response from James first thing this morning as well.

Dang, what great peeps over there at TPB.

Thanks.. and thanks to Brandt for sending me all the cool pics of my bass.

It was two days ago, yes only two days ago, that I emailed The Perfect Bass about a teal Music Man Sterling I was interested in. It was mid-afternoon, and yes it was a Sunday. I expected a reply on Monday, but to my surprise Brandt replied in just a few minutes. To say I was surprised is an understatement.

Here I am two days later in Virginia with my brand new Teal Sterling 4 string. It is my first one and won't be my last.

I have already emailed Brandt and James to let them know what a pleasureable experience this was. I have read about their store and the great customer service here on the forum. Now I have experienced it first hand.

Please, if you are looking for a bass, don't hesitate to call The Perfect Bass. They really care about their customers, which unfortunately is a rarity today.

Thanks again Brandt. Great job!

I am gonna be in the market for a 5 string fretless in the future. But, I don't really want to spend a ton of money on a bass that isn't gonna see a lot of playing time, so I am seriously considering one of these, or a KSD.

And for how slick it has gone so far with buying a Musicman SR5 from Brandt, there is no doubt in my mind where I will be looking when it comes to picking up a fretless.

For sure! I am really impressed with this bass for the $$. Feels very very similar to my 535 and the pickup/electronics are quiet. Granted, not many tone choices with the electronics having only a single humbucker, but what it does, it does well. I can vary the tone enough with hand position though :D

Another great experience here too. I bought a Dargie Delight Stingray 5 HH from them this past week. Brandt was great about answering my emails very quickly, and was very nice to deal with on the phone as well. I did talk to James once, but it was only because he answered the phone when I was calling to talk to Brandt.:)

I think the TB discount is a GREAT thing. And the next day air shipping was very reasonable too (I hate the thought of a new bass bouncing around in trucks for 5 days).

I have said this before in another thread, but I will say it again--TPB will definitely be my first stop when looking for new basses/gear again. Unfortunately, I have been told that it's going to be awhile before I am shopping for new gear again.;)

I ordered a Gallien-Krueger amp from them last week. Just arrived today and it's fantastic.

The website is very professional and well organized. Much nicer looking than most of the small shop sites. The B.Y.S.I.B.Y.G. is great as well. Knowing exactly what you're going to receive.

The TB discount is just the icing on the cake.

I have to chime in here. My single dealing with the perfect bass has been excellent.

I contacted several shops concerning a truss rod cover and never got any replies. TPB replied within two days and I got the truss rod cover from the manufacturer to my door within a week. this is the best part: I asked "what's it gonna cost me?" I was told if we don't get charged for it, we won't charge you.

I must say, companies that values potential customers always have the best customer service. I will definitely be looking to TPB for future needs...I only wish they were local.

Just thought I'd pass along my experiance from today at TPB. Brandt spent two 1/2 hours letting my try out every bass I wanted to my hearts content. Lo and behold it was a Warwick Dirty Blonde 4 that stole my heart today. I've never had any guitar salesman stay so commited to making sure I was taken care of. Brandt went out of his way to accomadate me on the deal and I left with a killer bass at an awesome price. Needless to say I will be back either by internet store or in person, but probably both.

On a side note I was blown away by the tone and playability of the MTD Z4's. Now thats a bass in a great price range, with tone for days, and awesome looks.

First, Brandt responded promptly to my emails concerning price and ended up giving me a good deal on a skyline JO5 and Fender strat. I received both 3 days later. Unfortunately the JO's bridge p/u wasn't working. I called and Brandt not only shipped a replacement as soon as he had a tracking number on the return (no waiting for the bass to arrive back ala all the other guys) he also sent it Fedex OVERNIGHT. Folks, that's expensive AND I hadn't requested it, he did it on his own. Received the new bass yesterday and everthing is fine. That's customer service and I can honesly say I'll be buying more from these guys.

..well my first experience with tpb was a decent one. picked up a lakland 4402 from brandt and it arrived fairly quickly. now my second has been a disaster. why they use fedex i will never know and why they use fedex with signature required i will never know. but anyway i ordered a gk amp last week . had it all planned out to have it arrive on a day someone would be there to sign. checked my tracking info. they had it shipped to the wrong address. called em up to straighten things out (which they did several hours later) and get absolutely no apology whatsoever. all i got was well it might be delayed another day. quite disappointed to say the least.

Hey Lightgroove,
We definitley apologize for any inconvenience you had with your second order. We appreciate your business and hope that you'll continue to work with us.

I also invite you to give me a call or email personally to let me know who you spoke with. Without a doubt, if there are "woes" of any kind, our staff should be as understanding as possible. If we have a problem in this regard I would like to address it with our staff, but I would appreciate the heads up sent to me off-list.

You can contact me at james@theperfectbass.com or at our toll free number.

Just to let everyone know, we use FedEx because they have an exceptionally low damage rate. With the other major shipper, we had a much higher rate of returned shipments due to damage. FedEx costs a little more, but they have proven to be a better service overall.

We also require signatures because we don't want to leave a high-value piece of gear sitting on anyones front doorstep... To take the guesswork out of what a high-value piece of gear is, we simply require a signature for EVERY shipment that goes via FedEx, which is everything except single packs of strings which ship via USPS most of the time.

Thanks to all of the comments on this thread! We really appreciate your business and hope to continue to serve you all in the future!

Peace!

Interesting how the same thing happended to me but Fedex was great at resolving it. On the replacement I posted about above, as I checked my Fedex update, I noticed a delivery exception due to a wrong address. I immediately called Fedex and found out TPB has left a letter off the street name. Fedex contacted their driver and the bass was delivered. Granted a few hours later than originally planned, but Fedex did a great job of correcting a problem they didn't create.

Just got a new ABG from TPB... just wanted to chime in and let everyone know that the service was outstanding. My wife ordered the bass for me as an early xmas present, the guy that she made the transaction with was very polite and made sure everything was in order (his name was Sean BTW). He managed to get the bass shipped out for overnight shipping even though it was already pretty late in the day. The packing job was excellent as well. I've made a few transactions via the website on smaller acc. items, chords, strings etc. Quick shipping and no problems. The TB discount is very cool... TPB will be getting alot of buisness from me... Thanks guys! Review for the bass at a later time in a different forum.

Many thanks to Brendt at PB, the service was grreat. I thought I would never buy an instrument on line, but when I ask Brendt to check the bass out, he did and gave me a real pros and cons evaluation of the instrument. Thanks again for the great service and the bass is beautiful.

Another great experience here. I didn't order too much, just a couple Warwick Double Rockbags, some strings, and some Warwick Wax, but they got it shipped out right away so that I got everything before the Thanksgiving holiday (arrived today).

Great place to do business!!!

Over the last couple months I've made two purchases from TPB. Both times I dealt with Brandt and I have nothing but praise for him and TPB. There was no way that my dealings with them could have been any better and I feel confident that anyone who deals with them will feel the same way.

In my mind, TPB sets the standard for customer service. I've never experienced better anywhere. I called with some amplifier questions; the sales rep answered everything, provided additional information, and then asked me questions to make sure I'd like what I ordered. I couldn't be happier.

I got a great deal on a used Tech 21 Programmable Bass Driver a few weeks back. I mean, the price was incredible. It was shipped for free to my house in less than a week.

Now here it is a few weeks later and they send out a Christmas Card. Not one advertising "Big Blowout Blah Blah Blah", but a simple Christmas Card.

The way to do business in this modern age-thanks Perfect Bass!

I just got my new MM Stingray 5 anniversary from TPB today.
They have to be one of the best internet stores in the country!
I was dealing with Sean initially, when Sean left for X-mass there wasn't any drop off, totally seamless, just outstanding service, so props to everyone there. I'll be back, thats for sure. Rick

I just placed an order with TPB, small stuff (strap, strings, etc.) and I was super impressed with them. Great website, easy check out, very concise confirming e-mails, even FedEx “Shipped” and "Delivered" e-mails.

Way to do business!!

You have certainly won me over as a customer.

I just wanted to tell everyone how great the folks at TPB have been. A few weeks ago I ordered a Special Edition Fender Jazz. I work from home and I have two young boys so I can only do my online shopping late at night. I missed the deadline for the holiday deal by 30 minutes. I emailed TPB and asked if they could extend the discount to me due to my circumstances. Brandt called me the next day and gladly gave me the deal! When I received the bass I noticed a slight ding on the box. I opened it up and there was a huge chip on the body down to the wood!!! Was I bumbed out or what. I had a gig that weekend and wanted to play it. I emailed pics of the damage and Brandt called me. He immediately apologized and said he would take care of me...of course it wasn't their fault! It was damaged in shipping. I chose a different bass the Spector Legend4 classic. James had it shipped to me 3 day instead of the standard ground and FedEx picked up the damaged one. The Spector came to me flawless! I plugged it in and it just sounded beautiful! It was THE sound that I've been searching for!!! TPB- nothing but cool, professional players who know their stuff! I'll be sure to recommend them to all my friends!

TPB has now become pretty much the only online store I buy from. In fact, I just ordered a Fender Bassman 150 and a Korg tuner today.:)

One thing that I absolutely cannot stand with some online stores is the "Call or Email for Pricing" that a lot of them have. I'm sorry, but I don't want to have to call. I want to see what a store's best price is, listed right along with the description of what I'm looking at.

Now, if only they wouldn't have sold the madrone burl Roscoe SKB3006 just a day before I had the cash together for it......:hmm:

+1 on The Perfect Basses customer service. I first delt with TPB in Oct. 2007 when I purchased a PJB Flightcase from them. I was so impressed with them that I have sense made two more sizable purchases and they went the extra mile to take care of me. As far as I'm concerned any purchases I make in the future on new gear will be from them.

I just bought an EBMM SR5 HS from The Purrrfect Bass.
Can't say enough about how well I was treated by James (owner) as well as Brandt and Corey.

The bass arrived in absolute pristine condition.
For me, it's literally THE perfect bass. ;)
Practically plays itself... and sounds amazing.
Really versatile too...

Thanks to James and Brandt for their patience and advice!
I'll be back for more... :D

i was actually referred to james at the perfect bass by a salesguy at guitar center when i was looking for a 5 string fretless bass...ever the pawn shop puppy, i was comparing prices on ebay and in fact my first conversation with james was when he happened to be at the namm show and he checked on the warwick fretless rockbass i was looking at and thought the quality was really good on the the lower end warwick rock basses...

so now, to make a long story a lot shorter, i had to get a new amp for my new bass as none of the other amps i had or tried could handle the low end put out by the warwick and finally settled on the glockenklang...

originally bought a soul head and a usa quattro cab and it sounded great with all my basses...but i need more power with the two guitarists i'm playing with...james set me up on the heartrock head and i've gone from there...it's overkill i know, but i would've had 2 ampeg svt rigs someday (magnavox 1972 series head which are hard to find in good shape)...but i'm much happier with the glock rig...easier to move, and much more versatile...no recapping or retubing...

small gigs i can carry one head and one cab...big gigs, i can carry the full rig, 2 heads, 4 cabs...with the option of adding 2 more cabs to run the 1000 watts rms @ 2.7 ohms...

so now, 2 glock rigs, 3 basses, and 2 guitars later...not to mention accessories and stuff, i can tell you that the folks at the perfect bass will defitnitely take care of you...hats off to james, robert, brandt, and all the rest of the guys who patiently put up with me when i'm spending too much time trying to figure out which axe to get...

i recommend these folks highly....i keep coming back and i have to drive across the swamp to get there!!!

I recently got rid of a Boss Gt-6B in favor of pedals. I got all of them from TPB, except for my wah. There customer service is top notch and there selection is awesome. They always make you feel like your doing them a favor as opposed to the big chains who treat you like "you know what". And the TB discount is great. Thank you to all the TPB staff you definitely have a life long customer.

Well, I just ordered the black/maple Fender American Precision V from 'em (along with a couple sets of strings). I've never bothered with P Basses before (except for a brief stint with an Am. I emailed TPB about their Spector Legend 4 selection, mainly asking if it comes with a gig bag or anything and what colors they have available. Since they only had the Amberburst and I wanted a Cherry Burst, they offered me a great deal! I thought that was cool, then they threw in a free TPB t-shirt. Also very cool! After a little haggling over the phone, I was able to get a Spector Legend 4 Classic (Amberburst), Spector HARDSHELL case and a free TPB t-shirt, all shipped for a better price than I expected!

So, a big big THANK YOU to The Perfect Bass for the wonderful deal on this great bass (which I am currently in LOVE with!)
I'd highly recommend dealing with TPB: they have good prices, fast shipping and great customer service. Just give them a call or email them if you have questions on anything on their site.

(and no, I don't work for TPB, just offering my testimonial of my excellent encounter with them)

Just wanted to say that I am extremely satisfied with TPB's customer service! This comes in addition to their amazing discounts and specials. I was even called up by one of their sales associates recently to make sure that everything got to me a-ok. Mind you, I am in California. Just wanted to say that as a former long-standing customer of Guitar Center, I have recently felt very put off by their lack of knowledgeable staff (at least at the stores in my area :hmm:), and ever-increasing prices. (where'd all the discounts go? :atoz:) I had thought that I would have to find things either via ebay or pay the exorbitant prices that Guitar Center/Sam Ash charge. :spit: That all changed when I found out about TalkBass and the discounts at TPB/TPG. Since then, I haven't needed to go anywhere and get things because just about everything I need (and more importantly, everything I want) is just a click away.

Long thread short: Thanks so much guys! Keep doing what you're doing, and I'll keep throwing money at you! :smug:

I was going to start another thread for this very same reason. I'll just tag on to this one.

I just recently purchased 2 effect pedals. Not only does The Perfect Bass give TB members incredible prices, but I also received a follow up call from them to make sure I was happy with everything. I had read so much good about The Perfect Bass, I figured Id check out the site. Well, I found a few basses I liked, well, more than a few but I figured, lets try an MTD. I was about ready to pull the trigger when....wait. I got an email from TPB telling me, I could get an extra discount with their email promotion!

I thought , What are they doing? THey already have the bass sold without the discount. Then after the purchase, they set the bass up and sent me a couple emails to keep me informed and a tracking number. The bass showed up a couple days later and set up perfectly.

Whats the deal? Does Guitar Center know about this? I am truly converted! You guys did an awesome job and we here at TB appreciate it.

I have to add a huge +1 to this. I ordered a set of Lindy Fralin pickups for a new to me five string. They shipped fast, and had the lowest price around. Plus, someone (I think it was Cory?) called me from The Perfect Bass a few days later to see if I had any questions or needed any help/tips for installation.

I was over from the UK for a week staying out in Key West and James & Brandt were so friendly and helpful by both email & phone in sorting out a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 & some strings & stuff for me.

Everything was delivered to my hotel on just the right day & it's all home now and working perfectly (the GB has an international voltage selector).

Fantastic service, great price, free shipping to the southernmost point of the USA and a discount for being a Talkbass user - what more could you ask for?

Sooooooooooo, i ordered a brand new Lakland Joe Osborn 5 string the other day. I can't even put into words how pleased i am with my purchase. I e-mailed TPB at like 10 in the morning to get a tracking # for UPS and got a response the same day at like 3 (when does this ever EVER happen!!) Not only that, but on their site they say, "The bass you see is the bass you get". Didn't really believe it at first, but sure enough i go to show off my new purchase to some friends online, and to my surprise it's not longer pictured on the site, cause i bought it. Once again too good to be true. If you are the in the market for equipment, this is the place to go!!
