Ok, so....i've been hangin out here a bit, checkin out everybody else's work(freakin amazing) and now i'm thinking about giving it a go.(i actually have gas for a bass of my own design, never thought that would happen). Anyways, i have a few drawn out but this is the only one on the computer. What are you thoughts? Opinions? It's one that i really haven't seen yet, a Single cut short scale.

The upper horn is a little big i know, i might shorten it a little but i still kinda like it.

Wouldn't be the lower horn too close to the fingerboard? Other than that and the upper horn size looks good to me.

yeah, i noticed that after i looked at it a little longer. Maybe something more like this.

but i supose its all relative to how wide i make the fingerboard.

make it a 34" scale, 28 fret, 7 string with 19mm @ bridge string spacing and I'd hit it :smug:

I dig that drawing!

Could be just me but I think this might be a bit butt heavy, depending of course on your woods, the second drawing appears to be more strap friendly

haha, i never thought of anything being butt heavy, i might have to think about that. But that might not be a bad thing.

i have the wood picked out now but i cant decide which one i want for the top. I think its gonna be poplar with purple heart pickup covers to match the back and fretboard but i can't decide.

body: purple heart/poplar
neck: 3 piece, Goncalo Alves/honduras rosewood
fretboard: purple heart

BTW - does anyone have any experience with Goncalo Alves?

I like the design, but I personally can't quite dig a body that has an upper bout the same width as the lower bout. Even if it is only a half-bout.

Upper bout slightly more narrow...but that's just me.

yeah, i hear ya; it looked rather large when i first drew it up.
I've tried making it a little smaller but i still keep coming back to this design, every other variation doesn't look right.

I like it as it is now, though I'm thinking on how much comfortable would be that lower horn for my leg.

be sure to put some chiropractor appointments in the budget, that thing will be heavy

Yeah, i figured that out real quick! I didn't necessarily intend on buying that combonation of wood, it just worked itself out that way. The wood supplier that i went to had pretty good deals. The poplar was dead cheap and the purple heart wasnt bad either. The most expensive items were the neck woods, but they were the only ones with the size and grain that i was looking for. I think the neck will be the best part of this bass.

I think what's missing is a full-body shot. Have you got a headstock thought up yet?

I do, but it's on paper. Iv tried recreating it on the computer, but with no luck. (microsoft paint is easy to use but hard to get what i want out of it.:D )

Hopefully i can start the build pretty soon, but i dont want to start measuring, cutting or glueing until i have the hardware in hand. Im thinking hipshot A bridge and ultralights, but i am still unsure about that. I do know that it will be strung through, however. Any thoughts on hardware? Hipshot is pretty standard I guess, just wondering if anybody has any prefrences?

Ok, here is my final design with head stock.
I'm not really sure if this is to scale, but i will make those adjustments when i do the mock up.

Oh......and the one i make will probably be a 5 stringer.
