I've got a MIM Mike Dirnt P bas that I'm slowly but surely turning into a monster of a P bass. New CIJ maple neck, new pots, input jack, pickguard and so on. Everything is perfect so far except for the P/U. It doesnt sound bad per se, just a little on the harsh side. Kind of an in-your-face tone with my set up + round wound strings.
I'm looking for a passive replacement that's going to give me a good solid low end with lot's of warmth and sweetness but with just enough high end to help it cut through the stage mix. Style-wise I play anything from rockibilly to indie to punk to an alt-country type thing, so something that can bridge all of the above would be cool.
Any recommendations? Seymours, Dimarzio's, Fralins?

Thanks!

Lindy Fralin should do what you want very well. FWIW, my favorite (split) P-Bass pickup.

The Lindy (http://www.fralinpickups.com/bass.asp#pbass) is great. The Rio (http://www.riograndepickups.com/5.html) "vintage" p pup is nice also. I had the quarter pounder at one time also...after a while it was just too obnoxious

Do a search for Reverend here in the pickups forum. They're closing out old Rumblefish P pickups for $12 that can compete with anything on the market at any price tone-wise IMO. They are more aggressive than standard P bass pickups, but not quite "in your face". I love em so much I bought two.
