Just curious,

Is the L-1000 pup in the same location as the neck pup on a L-2000?

Thanks,

Tony

I believe that yes, owners of both basses found them to be in the same location! You can make your L2000 sound like a L1000 (which has "single-coil with bass boost" instead of series mode) by simply adding 1 capacitor, if you are interested....

The L-1000 has a three way switch. You get parallel, single coil (coil closest to the bridge), and series that many call single coil with bass boost (0.1uF stuck in the middle of a series connection). The G&L website has a schematic of this. The L-2000 has parallel and series. My 98 L2500 had series done the single coil with bass boost fashion which is consistent with most of the L2000 sold over the years I believe up until recently. The Tributes are a true series (no cap) and I believe today's current production L2000s are as well. All my knowledge of coil types can be read here. If you know something I am missing, let me know.

yeah, I took for granted that most L2000 owners haven't installed the 3-way switch already! I think you were the one that posted the schematic on the Dudepit that inspired me to start modifying my L2500- I did the 3 way switch, and also made my treble cut pot a push/ pull pot which would change the series setting to "single coil with bass boost". Oh yeah, I made the treble pot a 500K as well- to allow more treble than the stock pot. Lastly, I took out the preamp and used the extra 3 way switch to make coil switching independant for each pickup. I will soon install a stacked volume for control of each pickup.......
None of this had anything to do with the original post....:o
