Ooo, does it happen to be an unlined fretless... I had a Fender Jazz that had lines, I've been dying to try an unlined even though I know my intonation would probably be pretty bad. lol

Since I am way to used to my db, having a lined fret board is more of a hindrance to my intonation than anything.

Thanks guys! Looking forward to playing "naked" ... so to speak. :D
Seriously though, I've always been more fond of the fretted sound and picked up that Fender MIM lined fretless on a whim. I'm looking forward to seeing if I like the fretless sound a little better on a higher quality bass. :)
I'd probably have to practice with an unlined. Practice a lot.

I've just always preferred unlined fretlesses - I think it's a personal preference, there's no "best" option, it's whatever you're comfortable with or used to.

Do we have a cumulative list of people planning on attending?
Joe Gress
04-18-2009, 03:18 PM
Here is the last incomplete/incorrect list. A few other people have said they will come, and a few people have dropped out. I think.
If you're bringing something, put it next to your name:
I live in Littleton. I have 13 basses. I can't bring them all but I can bring several. All 13 of my basses are 5 stringers. They are all customized and or built by me.
I can also bring my effects pedal.
http://www.3dentourage.com/425/effects.htm
Here is the last incomplete/incorrect list. A few other people have said they will come, and a few people have dropped out. I think. You can tentatively count me in. I'll bring my custom Conklin, my beat up GT-5 (which I love) and my pedalboard. Most of my other gear I left back in PA until if or when I found a decent gig out here. Unfortunately, I have not.

The current list definitely looks different but we are full steam ahead. It's not too late to call your buddies, post MySpace bulletins or just grab people off the street though. We still need jammers for the evening too so let EVERYBODY know.

I'm trying to decide exactly what to bring. Definitely my bass and GT-10B. As I said before, I have the pair each of BFM Omni 10.5s and Tuba24s. I also have a small pa rack (Yamaha 12 channel mixer, dual 31 band eq, Crown xti amp) to run the speakers. The thing I don't know is whether I need the whole setup. If we need a small pa, I can bring cables, mics, the whole speaker setup, table, speaker & mic stands, etc. (pretty decent small setup, actually). If we don't need that, I'll just bring one of each speaker and enough gear to get the bass + GT-10B going.
I would love to bring the whole setup if it will be utilized, but certainly won't miss hauling it if we aren't going to use it.
Thoughts?

Well it definitely doesn't sound like a Stingray due to the position of the pickup. It's a lot closer to the neck than on a Ray. Some people say the L1000 has a unique vibe from the L2000 but I don't really share that view. I love the L1000 but it's basically an L2000 without the bridge pickup.
Anyway one vote for the L1000. Anyone else? :D

Interesting... I was thinking of exactly that rig before I picked up my Genz Benz/Avatar. I decided to go with more of a modular rig. I'll be adding an Avatar B212 Neo in the next couple weeks (whenever I feel like I need to order it) for my band's first gig on June 5th. That way I can play just the 2x10, just the 2x12, both or maybe just the Epifani UL110 I've been jonesing for for church. lol
That new TC Electronics stuff looks pretty sweet, but I didn't want to pay what they want for it (the amp anyway). I'm way more than happy with my Avatar and that Shuttle 6.0 is pretty fantastic. It doesn't have the compressor built in like the TC, but I've got a Multicomp on my board anyway. :)

So here's my most recent story,
I've been wanting a Dingwall for a while now and was waiting for the Combustions to come out. Last weekend they pushed the release date from June to September and I didn't want to wait that long to get a five string (while researching fivers, I ran across Dingwall and have been enamored since) so I started trolling Craigslist for a cheap five since I've seen several go for a couple hundred lately. Well, a couple days into my search I found what I was looking for. I don't have pics, but it was last sold here on Talkbass so see for yourself...
A guy here in Denver bought it in March and then hit some financial issues. I picked it up for a couple hundred less than he paid for it. Man, what an instrument. I've never felt comfortable playing any five string before but this thing just works for me!
Best of luck on everyone's GAS,
Tommy

I was ready to order a Combustion without ever even playing a Dinwall, but this one popped up on Craigslist so I got to go drool on it for a little while before handing over my hard-earned green.
If anyone around here wants to check it out, just let me know. It's a little bit different from anything I've ever played before, and I'm always eager to share an experience like that!

we should keep this thread going as a local/co thread. :hiding:
how was that GT10B? I'm thinking about getting one of those instead of the RC50 and a Multi-pedal.

Anyone from Pueblo on this board? I got accepted to CSU-Pueblo, so it looks like that's where I'm going. I have an audition this Saturday to see if I can get into the orchestra, but I think I have a pretty good chance.

Whew! That was nerve racking. I think I did pretty good. Totally sucked on the sight singing test (I've got a bit of a cold too, so that didn't help), but I think I did pretty good on my piece. Signed up for classes while I was down there too. School starts on August 20, and I should know in about two weeks what orchestras I made it into.
