VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Denver, Colorado GTG, anyone?
Hi TBers,
Any other Denver/Boulder/Colorado TBers want to do a GTG. I think it would be a lot of fun. Maybe sometime after the holidays are over. We have a pretty small music community and it would be great to find other other TBers in it.
J
sunbeast 12-17-2006, 10:58 PM Yes! What does that stand for again?!!!:)
Karl
inazone 12-17-2006, 11:30 PM Count me in.
GTG= Get Together, at least that is what I always thought.
Great, lets see who else speaks up and then we can try to set a date and a place.

bobbybass85 12-18-2006, 05:29 PM Can't promise i'll be there, but i'm interested for sure
Planet Boulder 12-19-2006, 11:34 AM I'm definitely interested as well. I believe the last one was held in north Boulder, which is where my band now practices, but if you guys want to do one somewhere else, that could be cool as well.
ctbass 12-19-2006, 02:56 PM Please count me in, as well.
Cool,
It looks like we got some interest going. PlanetBoulder it sounds like you have a cool place for us to get together, does anyone else have a place they would like to offer up. My pad has noise issues (just an apt) so that would be second to a practice space.
How about a Saturday or Sunday during the day sometime after New Years (maybe the second or third weekend in January. I think this will be a lot of fun.
Peace,
Jonathan
Jeff Martinez 12-20-2006, 12:32 AM Count me in!!!
Chace90 01-04-2007, 11:24 AM I'm in!
Well,
It looks like this thread has gotten slow. How about we do the final planning. Planetboulder can we still use your pad? If so lets start throwing out dates and see what works best.
How about a Sunday Day time to afternoon, maybe the first Sunday in Feb.
Peace,
Jonathan
Jeff Martinez 01-07-2007, 04:25 AM February 4 works for me.
Chace90 01-07-2007, 07:51 AM February 4 works for me.
For me as well.
Jeff Martinez 01-18-2007, 11:18 AM Bump to see if there's any word on the plan.
Planet Boulder 01-22-2007, 04:35 PM I'm not going to be able to do Feb 4, unfortunately, guys. I have some sword seminars for my martial arts class that I'll be attending that weekend.
Hi everyone,
Well, we can either plan a different day, or just hope that Planet Boulder can join us for the next one. If we do want to do Feb 4th does anyone have a place we can meet?
We could do it at my pad but I live in an appartment so we would have to keep the volume down, which would be not the best for amp tests and what not.
Chace90 01-23-2007, 12:48 AM I personally think we should reschedule, but whatever works best! :)
inazone 01-27-2007, 09:11 PM I personally think we should reschedule, but whatever works best! :)
+ 1
I have a lot going on that weekend.
How about feb. 11 that next sunday?
Chace90 01-28-2007, 12:32 PM How about feb. 11 that next sunday?
Isn't that Superbowl Sunday?
JoeVictim 04-10-2007, 02:34 PM Dang, no Colorado Love huh? I guess we can always close our eyes and Imagine tombowlus' basement of DOOM!
Chace90 04-10-2007, 03:12 PM I'm still interested...
JoeVictim 04-10-2007, 03:53 PM The only issue with the Springs is the super strict noise ordinance. I may be able to talk to the boss after we close on our FIRST HOUSE!!! We do have a basement but, I gotta sound test it first.
How is other areas of Colorado?
I am still down, but when I tried to move things along last time it seemed to just come up against scheduling problems.
JoeVictim 04-10-2007, 04:16 PM We could set a date and whoever comes, comes...
I don't want to leave someone out but, it maybe hard to include everybody.
JoeVictim 04-10-2007, 04:19 PM We could set a date and whoever comes, comes...
I don't want to leave someone out, but it may be hard to include everybody. Again, this is if the Boss will allow a bunch of peeps at the house. Wishful thinking as of right now.
Keep in mind, I don't have a lot of gear. Just enough for me. 1bass, 1head, 1cab, 1speaker cable, 1 make that 2 instrument cables.
The house plus daycare cost are keeping my budget real humble.
Planet Boulder 04-18-2007, 12:58 PM We could always meet up at the Vic Wooten clinic at Spotlight Music in Ft. Collins on 4/27. Anyone else going?
Chace90 04-18-2007, 01:00 PM Hoping to make it, but I've got a gig back in denver that same day so I'm not sure I should risk it. Seems like a recipe for disaster...
metron 06-18-2007, 12:15 PM Did this ever happen? There seem to be lots of CO people on TB. A GTG over the summer would probably be pretty fun?
Jeff Martinez 06-26-2007, 09:57 AM Man, Colorado bassists are as bad as my senior class in high school... "Yeah dude, we should totally do that sometime" and then nothing happens. ;)
I'll talk to my fiancee and see if she'd mind letting us use our back yard for for an outdoor jam. (our house is way too small for anything indoors) My neighbors wouldn't mind, they're both bassists as well.
At the very least, don't forget to check out the Lodo Bass Bash (http://www.lodobassbash.com)!!!
Jeff Martinez 02-12-2009, 11:46 PM Hello Colorado brothers and sisters!!!
It's that time again for someone to try, in vain, to actually herd more than one of us together at a time. Anyone interested in a Denver GTG?
Joe Gress 02-12-2009, 11:52 PM I'm up for it depending on the date.
Is anybody here going to see the claypool show on march 14?
Joe Gress 02-14-2009, 10:27 AM Hmm. Denver is dead.
Eric Perry 02-14-2009, 10:45 AM I'd be in too, no doubt. Just found this thread now.
einer von meane 02-14-2009, 11:08 AM I just found this thread too... I'd like to propose a GTG/Jam session.
I know a great place called The Dog House in Lafayette. They have amps and are set up to record.
It'll cost $60.00 an hour... we can handle that, right?
How about a month from now March 14, 2009?
Chace90 02-14-2009, 11:53 AM I'm in for sure, but I can't on the 14th. Rehearsals & gigs all day that day.
I am down, sounds like fun. I can do March 14th or another day.
Joe Gress 02-14-2009, 04:14 PM Yeah, probably not on exactly the 14 of march. I'm going to be busy that day in the morning, and the evening, well, it's occupied. :D
I was just wondering if anybody else was going to the show.
But which days work better for people, weekends or weekdays?
Eric Perry 02-14-2009, 04:32 PM Definitely weekend for me.
Jeff Martinez 02-14-2009, 08:22 PM My weekends are offset. I have Fridays & Saturdays off. But if as we meet somewhere that I can bring my 2-year-old daughter, I'm good any evening after 6.
Any Saturday is good for me, as long as I have a few weeks notice. My better half books our weekends in advance,
inazone 02-15-2009, 10:09 AM Im good for most weekends, in the afternoon.
Dertygen 02-17-2009, 07:41 PM LOL... there's bassists in Colorado?
Jeff Martinez 02-17-2009, 08:10 PM LOL... there's bassists in Colorado?
Surprisingly, this guitard-saturated state actually has 3 or 4 bassists. :D
fivestringgecko 02-17-2009, 08:22 PM Surprisingly, this guitard-saturated state actually has 3 or 4 bassists. :D
lol, amen to that!
Hey, I'm totally in for a GTG. Weekends would work best, but my schedule is fairly flexable. :)
Too bad the 14th of March doesn't work, that's only 3 days after my birthday... we could've made it a birthday party! lol

Captain_Arrrg 02-17-2009, 08:40 PM Oh man, I knew this day would come- The day when the internet people become real.
If a day and location can be set, I will definitely maybe come. :D For sure if Ric5 shows up with a 5 string Ric!
JSK5String 02-17-2009, 11:32 PM Showing my age here, but this thread reminds me of the M*A*S*H episode where they tried to plan a party for their families back in the states...
I think we need to start a Colorado Club so we can recognize each other easier in threads and show up at gigs to support each other.
Great idea you say?!? OK then, I'll start one with this posting. And if you guys want to have a GTG, my band is gigging at the Little Bear in Evergreen on Thursday, 3/5 from 8-11.
JSK5String 02-17-2009, 11:45 PM I started a new thread for the Colorado Club. Come one, come all...
Just discovered this thread. I was shocked to discover that there are more than 3 bass players in CO!
I reside in Roxborough/Littleton near Lockheed-Martin.
fretlessman71 02-18-2009, 02:01 AM I wonder how many of you I already know. :)
BTW, I can already recognize my fellow Front Range bassists by their special "location" titles in the upper right. It's pretty slick, ain't it? ;)
fretlessman71 02-18-2009, 02:34 AM Oh brilliant insight.
I prefer to keep my "special" location in this thread only. ;)
I know, it's ingenious, isn't it?
Anyhoo, I'd be into a GTG, but I haven't had a weekend off for years. It'd have to be early in the day (you know, before we all have to leave for gigs).
Edited post

Brilliant insight of the week post.

HaPpYfAcE 02-18-2009, 02:42 AM  didn't know people were here! haha...i've already interacted with a few TBers in the Springs, whether just by pm-ing or meeting to buy/sell gear.
I met a few of you last year at the Annual Rocky Mountain Bass Slam and BBQ at Ziggies Saloon.
buchananbass 02-18-2009, 03:26 AM when's the next bass slam. i had to work for the last one
Jeff Martinez 02-18-2009, 09:21 AM I met a few of you last year at the Annual Rocky Mountain Bass Slam and BBQ at Ziggies Saloon.
I definitely want to go this year. I didn't find out about last year's until about a month ago.

Some of us are fairly vague in that department.
Edit: Is it just me, or isn't everybody else envisioning this as getting together to chat and try some hard to find gear that fellow TBers seem to accumulate? I'm not too sure if someone's gig would be ideal for that.
fretlessman71 02-18-2009, 12:10 PM Right on both counts, Cap'n. Let's focus on this as being a big room with lots of chips, dip, soda, beer if it's your thing, and a ZILLION bass rigs set up to try out... and a decent drummer/guitarist/whatever to jam with if we so choose. :)
ccrnnr9 02-18-2009, 05:44 PM I'm in. I'm up in FoCo with Michael and would down. I usually work friday and saturday nights but a Saturday or Sunday afternoon sure would work well. Give me a couple weeks notice and I'm down so long as the costs are low...funds are pretty tight these days.
~Nick

Sunday May 03, 2009 1pm $8 cover goes to charity.

No zillion basses from me, but I'll come anyways.
derrellvis69 02-19-2009, 03:13 AM I'd be interested in attending a GTG.

It's May 2-3... This is the first one I've heard about and am pretty pumped. Bought a ticket for the Groove Clinic/main event on Sunday and booked an hour with Ray Riendeau! I'm WAY excited!!! :bassist::D

Captain_Arrrg 02-21-2009, 09:17 PM Oh?
You have allot of fuzz pedals and the like that you can't find in stores. Pretty much everything that isn't EHX or Dunlop.

Ahhh, I see.
I'll bring em then. :D

I'll bring em then. :D
That would be cool if you did! I am still a big time beginner but I find myself desiring a fuzz pedal to play through. I have been browsing these forums and elsewhere to find one that would be what I want and also not break my meager budget. It would be cool to hear your stuff and help me decide whether I need a nice fuzz pedal or a distortion/overdrive pedal and which one. Thanks!

Captain_Arrrg 02-24-2009, 10:37 AM One of the Denver members needs to be a superstar and either offer up their place, or find a place we can rent so this thing doesn't peter out before it starts. Then we can set a date and make it inevitable, then start the requests/posting of what's going to be brought to lure people into actually showing up.
Don't let this thread be one of perpetual fail!
metron 02-24-2009, 12:42 PM Weekends usually work for me.
If it works out I can bring a vintage SVT/NV 610 setup and some old G&L basses.
Tony-bobs 02-24-2009, 12:46 PM I'm a little ways from denver, but I would make the trip if you guys had something down for sure. I have a feeling that a Black Hills GTG would surmise in me sitting around by myself with some chips and dip and feeling sorry for myself...
I've hosted a few CO GTGs from another bass forum. Depending on the number of RSVPs I could do it at my house. If more than a dozen committed to attend I can think of a more spacious place to do it. Both of which are in the Springs. You Denver guys up for a little road trip? You're welcome to join too, metron.

fivestringgecko 02-25-2009, 08:42 PM jrug,
Another bass forum??? *gasp!* lol
(out of curiosity, which one so I can check it out? hehehe)
Happyface,
No need for more lessons, I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say all levels are welcome. Besides, what a better opportunity to learn than from others with more experience? I signed up for a lesson with Ray Riendeau at Bass Slam and I'm kinda scared s#!tless, despite playing music since I was 4 (bass for 10 years). Still going to do it though, can't pass up the opportunity! Moral: you should come down if we have a GTG! :)

Captain_Arrrg 02-25-2009, 09:32 PM jrug FTW
The Springs would probably work considering that there are a quite a few members from the area. Unless someone is allergic to El Paso county, let set a date shall we?
And no backing out now HaPpYfAcE, no one is expecting to be entertained here, just looking to have a good time.
I'll PM ya gecko. ;)
Like I said, the location will be dependent on how many would like to attend. Message me here on TB if you are the least bit interested.
I've got a busy couple days so I might not respond instantly but I will keep checking in.
I am in the Denver area ... I am interested.

Oh my gosh, the mental image is this close to making me cry! ;) Yes, of course you could consider yourself a "front-ranger" for the weekend. (Wow, I keep reading that and getting the urge to send you a teddy bear or something... what's wrong with me? :D )
fretlessman71 02-25-2009, 10:59 PM If we do it in the Springs, we have to pick a weekend when the Sky Sox are playing. :D

Captain_Arrrg 02-25-2009, 11:59 PM I'm guessing a Saturday would be best?
fretlessman71 02-26-2009, 12:13 AM You mean because no one ever gigs on a Saturday? ;)
Jeff Martinez 02-26-2009, 12:44 AM I haven't had a Saturday gig in a long time. :spit:
I'm thinking a Saturday too. It's a lot less likely to conflict with people's M-F gigs, y'ah mean?
Here's what I want to do. I want to set it for a Saturday afternoon in mid to late April. I'm hoping for a good amount of participants so I want to make sure that I have enough time to arrange it with the establishment that I have in mind. If there aren't enough people involved to justify a larger venue, then my house will suffice.
All I need right now is enough people to tell me they're interested (more than a dozen) and I will get to work on booking this thing. The sooner the better. It will be easiest for me to keep track of things if you PM me.
I'm getting stoked, this is gonna be fun!
fretlessman71 02-26-2009, 01:21 AM I know, I know... I have a strange schedule, and I regularly gig on Th/F/S in Cherry Creek starting at 7. I'm just being a little sarcastic. I'd even try to get out of the gig that night if this were to happen, so don't mind me. :)
There's no "if" about this anymore. It's gonna happen. I'm gonna set it up so that anybody that HAS to be back to D-town for gig time will still be able to come and hang. Cherry Creek is no more than an hour and ten minutes from here so I figure that gives you until about 5:50, right?
Just remember, when you're important, they'll wait. And who's more important than the bass player?
fretlessman71 02-26-2009, 01:51 AM More like 5:15. I can't afford to be late. But I'd make the trip even just to hang out for the first part of it!
Oh yeah... set up time...
You in?
fretlessman71 02-26-2009, 04:34 AM I'll find a way to be there, even IF the Sky Sox aren't playing. :D

April 25 vs TAC

fretlessman71 02-26-2009, 10:58 AM Yeah, I know... it finally occurred to me that I wouldn't be able to do baseball, GTG, AND make it back for my gig in time. And now the weekend of Apr 18 is out, as I have two NoCo gigs (Ft. C and Greeley) that weekend. Gonna have to stay put for those.
Captain_Arrrg 02-26-2009, 02:51 PM So April 25?
And maybe a list of who's coming (add yourself if you are indeed coming, or take you name off if I jumped the gun [except for HaPpYfAcE]). Also, if you're bringing something, put it next to your name:
1. HaPpYfAcE - GenzBenz Shuttle 6.0, Gallien-Krueger neo 212, *maybe* Lakland 55-02
2. jrug
3. fivestringgecko - [Bass], Shuttle 6.0/Avatar 2x10 rig, Barge Concepts Grinder, Keeley Mod Sparkle Drive, Stereo Electric Mistress
4. fretlessman71

10. Eggman - Bongo basses, Wav EUB, PJB Flightcase
11. metron - SVT, NV 610, G&L, Bassdrive
If you want to request someone bring something, ask them. They may not want to move their rig or whatever, but it doesn't hurt to ask!
It's kind of a tie right now between the 18th and the 25th from the responses I've gotten so far.
Joe Gress 02-26-2009, 03:01 PM 1. HaPpYfAcE

Captain_Arrrg 02-26-2009, 03:03 PM fretlessman71 can't make it on the 18th.
Yeah, let's make it official. April 25th is THE date.
Captain_Arrrg 02-26-2009, 03:12 PM That is one day short of 2 months away, mark it down! Keep that day clear! Add your name to the list! Exclamation!
flight120 02-26-2009, 03:28 PM I'm in Denver and just saw this. If I can get off of work (I'm off Sunday-Monday) I'm in! I don't have anything special to offer bass-wise, but I'm finishing a pair of BFM 10.5s and Tuba24s if anyone is interested in hearing them. Oh yeah, I also have a Boss GT-10B to goof around with. Let me know what you guys want me to load up.
Tommy
Tony-bobs 02-26-2009, 03:32 PM flight120 I would love to try out some bfm cabs, I've been thinking I would build some myself, but haven't really had the weather or motivation to start anything lately.
metron 02-26-2009, 04:08 PM I am willing to bring my vintage SVT and Berg NV 610. I also just picked up a new Fulltone Bass Drive if anyone is interested.

lol i don't plan that far ahead, so i don't think there's anything going on. what i bring depends on what i have at that time. :bassist:
Jeff Martinez 02-26-2009, 08:16 PM That's the weekend of my finacee's birthday, and we usually head to Estes or Glenwood, but I'll see what I can do. I would love to be there.
fivestringgecko 02-27-2009, 12:28 AM I'm down for April 25th and like flight120 said, if there's anything in particular someone wants me to bring, let me know. My gear list is up-to-date except for my big rig... Hoping to sell the Hartke HA4000/Pro4200 this weekend (cross your fingers for me!) and go with something lighter/more modular.
In the next couple weeks, I'm planning on ordering a Shuttle 6.0 and Avatar 2x10 neo. From there, I'll probably add an Avatar 2x12 neo and down the road, might pick up a 4x10 neo so I can combine different cabs based on need.
Who knows what the G.A.S. fairy will come up with! *shrugs* lol

I've always wanted to try one of those out.
Captain_Arrrg 02-27-2009, 10:00 AM I think it might be safe to assume that in the next 2 months more than 12 people will say they will come. I think there are at least 6 in the springs area alone.
It good to know that there will be a lot of amps, but just to be sure, some of you are bringing basses right?
Joe Gress 02-27-2009, 10:06 AM I can only bring squier's so...
...unless you guys really want to play on an upright.
fretlessman71 02-27-2009, 10:32 AM I have an early wedding to attend on the 25th - just got the invite. It's in Denver, so I should still be able to attend for a while. Lotta driving though.

What do you mean by 4B? An extension cab?
fivestringgecko 02-27-2009, 06:05 PM Oh yeah, I also have a Boss GT-10B to goof around with.
I wouldn't mind checking that one out. Sometimes I surprise myself... I've actually had a little flicker of a thought that I might want to switch back to a multi-effects pedal...

You have a lot of cool gear, but if I had to chose one for you to bring, it would be the Sadowsky M5-24.
Pilgrim 02-27-2009, 11:31 PM I just found this thread. I'm in Fort Collins and am up for a meet anywhere between here and Denver....CO Springs is a bit far for me. I'm open on April 25th. Might be able to talk at least one guitarist into coming along if you guys want to jam.
I can bring my G-K Goldline 4x10 cab if anyone wants to try that new unit. If not, I'll just bring a couple of interesting basses and some effects pedals. Have you ever played through a 1960's Univox SuperFuzz? Got one I've had since 1967........
For future notes...there's a nice coffee shop on Shields St. here that has a separate room with nice bandstand in the back (Crystal Coffee?). I have a contact who knows the owner and I believe I could get us in there on a Saturday. Might even be able to find a drummer.
The Captain is correct again I do have a place lined up, I'm just waiting to get it solidly confirmed. It is in the Springs and it is set for April 25th.

Captain_Arrrg 03-01-2009, 04:43 PM Cheap and Boulder are never in the same sentence (Not anymore, at least). There's a Colorado club you may want to try asking in.

Trust me, I'm all about the GAS. Like I said, at least I can get an idea how the effects interact and such before dropping too much coin on separate pedals. The GT-10B is certainly keeping me entertained so far. I'm still looking forward to picking up a couple of Electro-Harmonix pieces and whatever else I may "need" later ;).

It looks like there will be allot of single effects for you to try at the GTG.
The main reason I like singles over multi- If you don't like, lets say, the phaser you have, you can just sell it and get the one you're looking for. It's also easier to mess with settings on the fly (creating new, cool sounds).

True, and the part about not liking one aspect is a very valid point. As far as easier to mess with settings, from what I can tell so far, (like I said earlier, I haven't had tons of time with this thing yet) if you want to mess with something you hit the button for that specific effect and the settings come up on the display just as they would appear on an individual pedal. The soft-knobs under the screen adjust the parameter above it, again, just like the original pedal. Pretty cool.
I am looking forward to checking out everyone else's gear, though. I am just finishing up a modest PA and have an idea of what bass I want to get next, so I need to figure out what to que up next on the purchase list...
Tommy
Captain_Arrrg 03-03-2009, 10:12 AM Singles are easier to mess with on the fly. I've had bad experiences hitting wrong buttons at the most inconvenient time.
A mutli-FX is a good place to start, but IME, you'll decide one or more aspects are lacking. Then, once you have your ideal delay, filters, modulators and half a gazillion fuzzes, the multi seems superfluous. Again, IME.
Chace90 03-03-2009, 03:02 PM Tentative for me, but I should be there. It's gonna be in the Springs? Got a gig that evening, so may not have a lot of time to hang.

I don't have a head for the cabinets, they are part of a small pa system (I use the Boss for a preamp). I can bring the rack to go with it (Yamaha 12 channel mixer, B**ringer dual 31-band eq, Stewart PA50B monitor amp, Crown XTi1000) if you guys want and either have it there if we need a small pa or just use it for power for my setup. Just let me know. I'm also very interested in checking out some different heads with my cabs if anyone is willing to facilitate that (especially a Shuttle, MarkBass, Eden or something else small & lightweight).

I definitely want to check out that WAV! I've wanted one for quite a while and the only reason I decided to get the new rig first was because they're updating the WAV 4. I wanted to make double sure to get the updated one. :D
BTW, are we just checking out gear or is it going to be a jam session too? Will there be a drummer(s) at this thing? I don't think I'd have trouble lining up one or two if there's a need... ? (Maybe I missed the conversation, I'm at work and haven't gone back to check the entire thread. :hmm:)

I envision sort of a mini-festival atmosphere- Some people wandering around and checking out gear, some sitting around talking, and it would be sweet if there was some groovin' going on as well.
All I have is a drum machine, no soul, but also no crash-solos when you're making changes to your music. :D
fivestringgecko 03-04-2009, 08:08 PM I like that mini-festival idea!
I've got a drum machine as well and while it's good, I agree... no real soul.
I'll talk to a couple drummers I've been jamming with, I bet they'd both be interested. I'll see one tonight and the other this weekend. Both are solid and aren't overly flashy.
I'll keep you guys posted!
5sg.
Pilgrim 03-04-2009, 08:26 PM Sorry I won't be joining you - the Springs is a bit too long a round trip from Fort Collins.
fivestringgecko 03-05-2009, 11:07 PM Update: Talked to the first drummer and he's definitely interested, but needs to check his schedule... he's apparently flying back from Costa Rica that weekend and isn't sure of the exact time. ? lol
A thought I had this morning: if you guys are interested, I could do up some "backstage pass" nametags for us. (samples below). Let me know and I'll get it organized.
These are just some quick ideas at the moment, I'm still working on them. :) I could put all the info on one side, our Talkbass names on one side and our real names on the other... Obviously, the empty space is where said info would go. lol I'll go with whatever the general consensus is!
What do you guys think?

Maybe Colorado Bass Player? I like the second one the best.
*** Breaking News***
I just got confirmation on my venue and they have given me full reign on what ever I want to do.
So, this is what I have in mind...
A lot of you will have gigs that night so the Get Together will start at 2PM. Anyone that can attend is strongly encouraged! Colorado Springs is 80 minutes at the most from the majority of locations in Denver. This will be a private affair and we can all kick back. We'll get to know each other and have a good time.
Bring whatever you want to show off or whatever you think the other guys might dig!
After 6PM is where things will get REALLY interesting!
Not only do I want to have a jam (as In drummer(s) +) but I want to open it up to the public! We're going to make a once in a lifetime performance! If you can talk your bandmates into coming along with you, that would be awesome. If not, that's cool too. I've already lined up a handful of guys that want in on this and they are all set to go.
Bring any gear you think other bass players might be interested in checking out, any amp that you like to play through and anything else you can think of. My only request is that you bring a power strip or a similar type of device so that you only require one or two outlets. It gets out of control VERY quickly!
The address is:
4474 Austin Bluffs Pkwy
Colorado Springs, CO 80918
...and the venue is called Stick's Billiards. We are meeting in the lower level room. Stick's offers a full menu and bar. There is no age requirement but ID is required!
I am SO anxious about this whole thing. We can really make it something great!
Captain_Arrrg 03-06-2009, 12:05 AM So what's the venue?
Read my post, sir. We've been thinking along the same lines this whole time. It's gonna be great!
Joe Gress 03-06-2009, 12:27 AM Read my post, sir. We've been thinking along the same lines this whole time. It's gonna be great!
No ****! I shoot pool with my brother at sticks every so often.
Yeah? You've seen the lower room then, right? It's gonna be perfect.
Captain_Arrrg 03-06-2009, 01:45 PM Food, drink and pool? Sweet!
It really will be Colorado Bass Fest '09!
Captain_Arrrg 03-06-2009, 01:57 PM Bring any gear you think other bass players might be interested in checking out, any amp that you like to play through and anything else you can think of. My only request is that you bring a power strip or a similar type of device so that you only require one or two outlets. It gets out of control VERY quickly!
Also don't forget cables (extras won't hurt) what ever you need to power you effects (PP2+/Fuel Tank), and someplace safe to keep your bass (stand/case). If anyone else can think of some essentials, post 'em.

If you want to request someone bring something, ask them. They may not want to move their rig or whatever, but it doesn't hurt to ask!
Joe Gress 03-06-2009, 02:05 PM So. I really hope no one wanted to try the Prometheus. I traded it for a Akai Headrush and a Serrano Picaso. I trade pedals faster than most people breathe. :D
But I might be getting a DHA VT1 as well.
Joe Gress 03-06-2009, 03:30 PM Yep, I'll be bringing a DHA VT1 as well.
Unless I trade pedals again before then. :D
What I need now is to find out how many of you guys plan on being there in the evening and will invite other musicians.
fivestringgecko 03-06-2009, 04:44 PM Except I'm not in Denver. :D
Maybe Colorado Bass Player? I like the second one the best.
I could sure put that on there, no problem. Final art can have whatever you guys think would be best for info on it. I thought about doing something like my samples on one side and a Talkbass theme on the other side... "First annual Talkbass.com Colorado Bass GTG" (or something like that). I'm still kinda messing around with designs and such, these were just quick first run ideas.
What I need now is to find out how many of you guys plan on being there in the evening and will invite other musicians.
I talked to a drummer I've been jamming with... Band #2... (right now it's just us and we don't have a name yet, it's still VERY new :D) and he's interested, but needs to check his schedule. Apparently he's flying back from Costa Rica that day. I'll also put out an email to my Band #1 (again, still pretty new) and see who's interested.
If they're all interested and show up, I could potentially bring two guitarists, a keyboardist and two drummers! I'll make sure to keep you posted!

I like 'em Gecko. Would you be interested in putting together promo material? Just a flyer or whatever, really. Something to send out on-line and maybe a simpler version for print.
Jeff Martinez 03-07-2009, 09:33 AM Doth mine eyes deceive me? Is this event actually coming to fruition?!?!?!?!
Is this venue a 21+ venue? If I am able to make it, I'll likely have my daughter with me.

It's 21+ after 9pm. Unless your with family or something like that. I'm 19 and my friend that my brother and I shot pool with is also 19. But we are never in there after 9.

I'd be more than happy to, I'll work something up!
Here's another thought: a couple people at work have been telling me about a site called Meetup.com (http://www.meetup.com/), you might check it out. It seems like a pretty good site to organize groups and meetings, things like this... maybe we could get the word out even further through that site as well? Just a thought.
I like the second one the best.
I've got one vote for tag #2, does anyone else have any preferences to a particular nametag or is that the one we're going with? :)

This is an all-ages deal for sure. 20 and under have to stay in the lower level room past 9 and everyone needs to have an ID.
Thank you very much Gecko. I'm sure I'll be talking to you. I'll check that link too.
Paulbass 03-08-2009, 10:16 AM any of you guys going to the Rocky Mountain Bass Slam May 3rd at Ziggies in Denver?
Ray Riendeau and Doug Johns headline this event.
Iam putting the word out, don't miss out
fivestringgecko 03-09-2009, 09:36 PM All right! I had some more time, so I've got some more nametags for you guys! Unless you guys have any thoughts on how to improve them, they're pretty much done, so PM me with which one you like and what info you want on it.
Jrug, I'll get working on a flyer next!

jdombrow 03-10-2009, 09:18 PM I don't how I missed all this. I thought I was subscribed to this thread.
I'm pretty sure I can make the GTG at Sticks. It's about 10 minutes from my house, and I've played pool there many, many times. (Besides bass gear, is anyone bringing a pool cue?)
If you're bringing something, put it next to your name:
1. HaPpYfAcE - GenzBenz Shuttle 6.0, Gallien-Krueger neo 212, *maybe* Lakland 55-02

jdombrow 03-10-2009, 09:31 PM I also wanted to mention an upcoming gig.
I'll be playing with the Julia Bryan Band at the Toad Tavern in Littleton on Friday, March 20th.
We play all original music. This is a fairly new project with lots of potential. You can listen to samples here:
http://www.juliabryan.net/
We go on at 8:00, and we will be the first of 4 bands that evening. Following us are Fresh Jefferson, Shallow Man Down, and Soul Rabbit.
If anyone wants discount tickets, I can email them to you. You'll save $2 off the $6 cover charge.

jdombrow 03-11-2009, 06:24 PM Has anyone seen this:

Incredible deal!
I still need to know how many of you plan to stick around for the evening jam, and out of those, who will be bringing other musicians.
I've committed from 2pm until close so, if there aren't enough guys to keep a jam going, I'm going to need to book a band or 3.
fivestringgecko 03-12-2009, 02:44 PM I'll be playing for church choir the following morning, but I'm good to be there pretty late. It's still up in the air as to whether or not I'll be bringing any other musicians with me, I guess we're deciding as a group at our next practice... :hmm:

Chace90 03-12-2009, 03:53 PM Assuming I make it down, I won't be hanging into the evening. Playing back up in Denver that evening.
Captain_Arrrg 03-12-2009, 04:37 PM What are we talking about here? Would I be expected to entertain anyone other than myself?
Eggman 03-12-2009, 08:10 PM Looks like I can't make it afterall. I just signed a new office lease for my business and have to move that weekend. Apologies to all.
What are we talking about here? Would I be expected to entertain anyone other than myself?
Well, I want to hold a freejam with multiple bass players and other musicians as well that evening. In that scenario, it really won't be possible to keep an audience out, but it's not a major production either. This is all dependent on participation, of course.
The GTG is set for that afternoon regardless, I'm just trying to figure out how to fill up the evening. This way sounds like more fun to me, but If you guys don't dig it I can work something else out.
So what do you guys think?
Any thoughts on this? Anyone?
fivestringgecko 03-16-2009, 12:19 PM Audience or not, I think that'd be pretty cool. I don't know about you guys, but I've never jammed with that many bass players at once before!

I just need to clarify I've been bandless since 7/08 and am a rusty mofo rt now! :(

There will be other players. I'm definitely open to suggestions and invites but there are a handful of players that I've already talked to.
fivestringgecko 03-17-2009, 10:13 PM I just emailed my bandmates again, told them we kind of need to nail things down. Hopefully they can all be there! jdombrow 03-18-2009, 08:39 AM It is unlikely that I will stay to jam in the evening.
Jim D
Cool. Thanks guys. I think that any of you that get your whole (or most) of your band should do a mini-set in addition to the jams. What do you guys think?
fivestringgecko 03-26-2009, 11:01 AM Bump, to keep this thing going!
Jrug, both of my drummers are out of town (or country lol) that weekend. I also got kind of a "ho-hum" response from the guitarists. :hmm: I've got a couple other people I'll send messages to about it though!
Also, just a reminder... I've only gotten three replies about the Backstage passes. Anyone who wants one needs to let me know soon... There's a minimum quantity on the holders, so if only 4 of us want them it won't be worth it. I'll also need time to order them and put them all together. Just planning ahead! :)

i'm getting a sterling HH 4 string....should be here in a couple weeks because i was very specific on the color.
there's a sterling HS at GC off academy/platte...the action is a bit high on that one, but the sound is topnotch, so that's what i'm hoping for.

I have not been to GC for a long time now. Way too expensive for someone without a job. ;)
But pretty much all of those basses are in a desperate need of a setup. I bought a VM P bass for $100 there though, and all it needed was a setup.

They have a Schecter 004 there that is actually very nice playing and sounds kickass...i go there to try things out, but i wouldn't purchase a bass from there unless it was brand new in the box and i got some kind of discount.

fivestringgecko 04-09-2009, 08:06 AM But pretty much all of those basses are in a desperate need of a setup.
I know this should probably go in one of the GC horror story threads, but...
I work near the GC on County Line Road at Park Meadows, I stopped in recently and took a spin through the bass room... and was SHOCKED at the condition of their basses. I didn't find one bass on which I couldn't fit my fingers between the strings and fretboard! I couldn't let this go and mentioned it to the clerks behind the counter and got a great convoluted answer... they told me that their guitar guy sets them up, then told me that "they actually come from the factory that way and we just don't have time to do a proper setup." :scowl: :scowl: Pathetic.
Maybe I can go talk to the manager and tell him I'd be happy to come in and do setups in return for GEAR! :D lol
Back on the GTG topic....
Sorry guys, no nametags. I only got three requests besides my own... not really enough to justify the minimum order on the holders. Sorry! Still really looking forward to the event though!

HaPpYfAcE 04-09-2009, 10:11 AM I've listed my cab on craigslist so if I bring anything it would be the gb shuttle6 and bass if I have one by then.

I die a little every time I go there. There was a fretless Warwick there once with broken knobs. When I told the guy (the same one who helped me find the one bass amp that was actually plugged in), all I got in response was "Oh."
