VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Hey Los Angeles...LA GTG???
west*coast*bass 12-26-2006, 02:14 AM Any of my bass brothers and sisters want to get a bass bash together?
I can find a place and even get some very talented musicians to join in the fun for a huge bass filled jam...
Any interest? For all of those in the LA area, I have a place in mind in Burbank which is in the San Fernando valley...
Please let me know!
Mark

Spoiled Grape 12-31-2006, 01:21 AM I'd head out if I don't have a gig that night. February is going to be a very busy month for me. What time are you thinking of? Day or night? Or all day into the night?

March 10th is good for me.
MichaelScott 01-24-2007, 10:22 PM Either date is good for me. I'd prefer afternoon since I have my lesson in the morning.
steveb98 01-24-2007, 10:33 PM At this point either is good for me and afternoon sounds good.
mattq 01-24-2007, 11:30 PM dang i can't do either one of those dates. gigs all weekend every weekend
XavidmanX 01-25-2007, 10:58 PM Either date is good for me. I will make the drive.
HELLonWheels187 01-25-2007, 11:32 PM I can do either date i just don't particularly like the location. What is there to do? Are we supposed to bring our basses, amps....
steve21 01-25-2007, 11:45 PM Ok, i'm proposing two dates, please let me know which works best and we will let the majority decide.
Saturday February 24th or Saturday March 10th
I'm still thinking that the location will be in Burbank which is in the valley about 30 minutes north of Los Angeles.

Well, assuming it's in the afternoon I should be fine both days, but March 10 I'm supposed to be taking my SAT I guess in the early morning.
And the location is good for me... I'm about 5-7 minutes away from Burbank :p
ptidwell 01-27-2007, 01:44 AM I am down for this.
3/10 works best for me.
Spoiled Grape 01-31-2007, 01:34 AM I have a gig at night 3/10, but I'll still try to make it.
I'd be down for 3/10 and stuff.
RacingBeat 02-12-2007, 06:00 PM 2/24 works best. 3/10 is right before finals (YIKES) for me.
lefty 02-16-2007, 02:23 PM i'm in riverside and would love to go if it's cool?

MakiSupaStar 02-16-2007, 04:29 PM dang i can't do either one of those dates. gigs all weekend every weekend
Both dates are out for me. Gig and other stuff. Crap.
slamjet 02-16-2007, 11:57 PM Would this be appropriate for a n00b who barely had his hands on a bass (only a few months) who's trying to teach himself to play?
west*coast*bass 02-17-2007, 12:18 AM Would this be appropriate for a n00b who barely had his hands on a bass (only a few months) who's trying to teach himself to play?
Absolutely!

I sure hope so.
slamjet 02-18-2007, 01:26 AM Cool, I'm there.
HELLonWheels187 02-19-2007, 11:11 PM Am I going to assume its going to be the 3/10 date?
Stewmc5222 02-19-2007, 11:14 PM has anyone mentioned a venue yet?
Stewmc5222 02-19-2007, 11:15 PM or just a location in general. didn't mean to sound so... commercial.
jumbosilverette 02-19-2007, 11:19 PM Would this be appropriate for a n00b who barely had his hands on a bass (only a few months) who's trying to teach himself to play?
Yep, you better come cause I'm in the same boat as you and need company!
west*coast*bass 02-20-2007, 01:54 AM or just a location in general. didn't mean to sound so... commercial.
I'm working on it...I should have the location by the end of the week.
I can't do the 10th, have a wedding in LV to attend, but if this somehow gets pushed back, I'd be happy to bring my DP Custom multi-scale fretless along for anyone who wants to check it out ...
Edit to add:
If anyone in LA hasn't heard Robby Pagliara of Ohm yet, they're playing Sat 2/24 at the Baked Potato - stunningly phenomenal 6-string fretless player.
west*coast*bass 03-01-2007, 02:49 PM Hey everyone,
I am having issues getting the location for the 10th so I am thinking that we should move this GTG to a later date.
My thought is to move it to April. I will wait to see the responses before making any calls on location. I figure we can do a majority rules thing...
So start thinking about what works in April...
Thanks all
jumbosilverette 03-01-2007, 03:22 PM Works better for me cause I just found out we have rehearsal on the 10th. Thanks for putting this together.

Stewmc5222 03-01-2007, 06:28 PM as long as I've got some notice (a week or so) and I'm not out of state, provided there are neither gigs or rehearsals, I'll be there with eye candy!
let's lock a date, time and place!
:D

Nice shocker!
Any Saturday or Sunday in April works for me except April 28. AP Study Session :(
slamjet 03-01-2007, 10:21 PM Well, LAUSD's spring break is the first week of April. That's when most peoples vacations would be. So why not make it April 21? Just thought I'd throw out the first date suggestion.
mattq 03-02-2007, 12:58 AM any early april (week)day would work great for me
MakiSupaStar 03-22-2007, 02:32 AM mid to late april... I get back from Japan on the 16th. I actually have a hall pass for a couple of weeks after that too.:hyper:
HELLonWheels187 04-01-2007, 02:01 AM how much room is need cuz i think i might have a place in mind or my place.
Wally Malone 04-01-2007, 06:17 PM I'm following this thread. I have a flight to use up before April 24.
Wally
Stewmc5222 04-01-2007, 10:33 PM no one's confirmed anything yet, right?
MakiSupaStar 04-02-2007, 05:19 PM Not yet. It looks like it's still a little nebulous.
west*coast*bass 04-02-2007, 06:11 PM Still working on it... I should have a place locked up in a week or so.
MakiSupaStar 04-02-2007, 06:18 PM Still working on it... I should have a place locked up in a week or so.
Sweet. :D
Wally Malone 04-03-2007, 03:05 PM west*coast*bass, any idea if I were to fly in as to what airport will be the closest to the event?
Wally
ulrich 04-03-2007, 03:45 PM west*coast*bass, any idea if I were to fly in as to what airport will be the closest to the event?
Wally
Did someone mention a general location yet?
IIRC (doubtful) the Valley was mentioned, which points to BURbank.
Other things being equal BUR>LAX
Rakie 04-03-2007, 04:37 PM Would be a lot of fun.
Wally Malone 04-03-2007, 06:38 PM Near Burbank would be great, much easier to fly to.
Wally
west*coast*bass 04-04-2007, 01:24 AM Burbank/Glendale Airport will work best.
Wally Malone 04-04-2007, 03:58 PM The other thing I need to figure out is when to come in and that is depending on the time frame of the event. I'm thinking since I'll only want to stay over one night that it would be better to fly in on the morning of and stay over that night. Have there been any thoughts as to the time frame?
Wally
steve21 04-04-2007, 09:04 PM Burbank/Glendale Airport will work best.
Which makes my commute very easy. :hyper: :hyper:
Again, so long as it's not too early in the morning on the 28th, or the 13th or 27th, and I'm "all systems a-go"
Wally Malone 04-07-2007, 03:15 PM Well so much for the idea of me heading south for that weekend. The AFM local in Reno has an emergency situation and this morning got the availability of the person I'll need to help up there and of course it's the weekend of the 21st. Maybe next time.
Wally
Rakie 04-07-2007, 03:48 PM Keep us updated West Coast.
DavidHull 04-11-2007, 02:36 AM Just stumbled on this thread...Is there a bass-happy event about to take place in olde Los Angeles?
Rakie 04-19-2007, 11:45 AM Doesn't seem like this is going anywhere. :hmm:
Stewmc5222 04-19-2007, 11:53 AM I get the same feeling.
Wally Malone 04-23-2007, 09:56 PM Good thing I used my SW Rapid Rewards flight before it expired! I would have rather used it to hang with a bunch of bass fanatics.
Wally
west*coast*bass 04-24-2007, 12:39 AM Sorry all, I have been extremely busy and this has moved to the back burner.
Unless someone else wants to take the reigns on this one and get it done sooner, I would like to slide it to mid May...
steve21 04-24-2007, 05:42 PM The mid-later parts of May is really good for me... I have AP Testing until about the 25th.
Of course if there's an earlier one I can still probably make my way out. :bassist:
lefty 04-26-2007, 12:37 PM actually, mid to later part of june is looking good to me
MakiSupaStar 04-26-2007, 02:33 PM LOL. This is funny.
steve21 04-26-2007, 09:29 PM LOL. This is funny.
What'd you expect from the people who say "Yeah, be there in twenty" and arrive four hours later?
Los Angeles, gotta love her!
Rakie 04-26-2007, 09:50 PM we all suck, well... You guys suck, im awesome. :hmm:
ok, maybe i lied :crying:
lefty 05-01-2007, 11:48 AM actually, it would be better in july. i could probably make it then.
Stewmc5222 05-01-2007, 12:05 PM July may be okay for me but I may have a fair amount of time out of town and on the road.
HELLonWheels187 05-01-2007, 11:07 PM July may be okay for me but I may have a fair amount of time out of town and on the road.

Stewmc5222 05-01-2007, 11:35 PM 2008 right?
:D :D :D
ROFL
I'm nowhere near that busy with playing these days!
no, July and August just happen to be when I've got stuff booked. performing and teaching at the Lodo Bass Bash then cutting an album.
if that time's good for everyone but me, just make sure there are lots of pics snapped and maybe even some video!

Dude, you are 16...you have school and homework. Your life is a piece of cake.
Patience...we can't meet at a Taco Bell. I am trying to secure a studio where we can get some noise working...we don't want to annoy the neighbors.
I should have a location locked up by tomorrow night.

j-bass-kreep 05-07-2007, 10:26 PM I just hope the GTG slides to July ;) I always go to LA on the 3rd week of July.
steve21 05-08-2007, 08:19 PM What happens on the 3rd week of July that brings ya here?
I hope I have a bass by the time the GTG happens... trying to sell the Ibanez, and I'm pretty sure I'm ordering in a Lakland so that'll take a while...
j-bass-kreep 05-09-2007, 01:35 AM I have an uncle that works in San Fernando , and while we are ther e we usually go to Six flags.

west*coast*bass 05-11-2007, 11:08 AM Here's an update for you all... I spoke with my buddy who owns a studio in Burbank and gave him 2 dates; June 2nd or June 30th...he is checking his calendar and will let me know which of those will work.
The studio is called Oracle Post and they do audio mixing for TV shows and feature films. They have a very large room that would hold a bunch of funky bass players so it would work quite well.
Also, my friend Jimmy is a bad ass keyboard player and I can have my drummer there as well and we can get some groovy jams going.
Please note that it makes NO DIFFERENCE what your skill level is, you should come and play and have a great time.
I will hopefully know today which date works better for the studio time.
Stay tuned...
lefty 05-12-2007, 11:48 PM right on west coast, it sounds like it'll be worth the wait for the gtg. thanx for the update.
steve21 05-13-2007, 01:35 AM Great to here about the dates! :hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper:

west*coast*bass 05-15-2007, 04:19 PM I am waiting to hear from my friend about his space but I have also put a rehearsal space on hold in Van Nuys (Valley Center Studios (http://www.valleycenterstudios.com)) for June 2nd from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Please let me know if this will work for everyone. There is a charge if we use the Valley Center Studios space which I will cover. If you guys want to bring in some drinks, that would be great - no big deal.
I would like to get a count so I know how many to expect.
Thanks.
Mark
Stewmc5222 05-15-2007, 04:38 PM I can definitely make the 2nd! I'll see if I can get another guy from the shop, too.

Eek, nevermind... there's a school rock show on June 2 (Last one of the year)
I'll be able to come, buddy can't.
west*coast*bass 05-16-2007, 01:29 PM My buddy has offered to let us use his studio which is great. It will be much better for us.
So, the date is Saturday June 2nd from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., the location is Oracle Post (http://www.oraclepost.com/facility2.htm) in Burbank. My buddy Jimmy will be there and he is a bad ass keyboard player...My drummer Dave will be there as well and we will have some fun.
The location:
Oracle Post
4720 Magnolia Blvd.,
Burbank, CA 91505
Feel free to email or PM me if anyone needs additional information. I figure we can order a few pizzas and you guys can bring beer or sodas if you want to.

west*coast*bass 05-16-2007, 02:09 PM Maybe we can get some cool name tags. :eyebrow:
:rollno: :help:
steve21 05-16-2007, 07:54 PM I don't think I need a name tag. :hiding:
Anyways, Burbank is even better for me so I'm good to go!
Is there gonna be any sort of gear call thread or just keeping it in here? There's some stuff on here I'd really like to see in person. :bassist:
eosdallas 05-16-2007, 08:00 PM ill most like be there. so add me in
mikoespanol 05-16-2007, 08:16 PM I might be out of town that weekend but I'll show up if it won't push through.
west*coast*bass 05-16-2007, 10:08 PM Hey all, there is a time change to accomodate a dad who needs to leave at 4 to go take prom pictures of his daughter (yes, it's me...). The new time is from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Same day, same location - we just start an hour earlier.
Thanks all...

Well, I figure folks will bring what they have or want to bring. It may be a good idea to start a new thread to see what everyone will be bringing...
I'll do that. Thanks Steve!
eosdallas 05-16-2007, 10:56 PM My buddy has offered to let us use his studio which is great. It will be much better for us.
So, the date is Saturday June 2nd from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., the location is Oracle Post (http://www.oraclepost.com/facility2.htm) in Burbank. My buddy Jimmy will be there and he is a bad ass keyboard player...I'll have a drummer there as well and we will have some fun.
The location:
Oracle Post
4720 Magnolia Blvd.,
Burbank, CA 91505
Feel free to email or PM me if anyone needs additional information. I figure we can order a few pizzas and you guys can bring beer or sodas if you want to.
Keep chiming in if you can make it. I hope to see all of you guys there!
Mark
can we put this info in the first post? that way no one had to dig and find it?
west*coast*bass 05-16-2007, 11:09 PM For some reason I cannot edit my OP...there has been another thread started with the time that links back to this thread.
RiddimKing 05-17-2007, 12:33 AM I look forward to it. I'll bring my 88 MM Sabre...cause it's got mojo. And I'll bring cold beer, just because.
Rid
Stewmc5222 05-25-2007, 12:46 AM for some reason I didn't get notification of new posts, but I'll be there and see if I can't get some guys from the shop to bring axes, too.
I'll be sure to bring the Conklin and Bee 8 strings and whatever is ready of the basses I've been working on if anything is actually complete in time.
should I bring an amp?
Stew
Carey 05-25-2007, 10:49 AM I just got clearance from the wife so I'll be there. I'll see if I can scare up a few basses to bring...
Wally Malone 05-25-2007, 01:05 PM Looks like I'll miss this one as I am arriving in LA on the 5th and will leave Sunday the 10th. It's probably a good thing that I can't make it especially since Carey will be bringing some of his basses. We all know the dangers in holding one in your hands and not wanting to let go!
Wally
west*coast*bass 05-25-2007, 03:05 PM Oh yeah! Nordstrand representation at the GTG!!! Carey and Stew together!! This is awesome.
I am waiting to hear from Jorg Schroeder...he is going to try to make it down and bring some of his new cabs...
There also may be one other "special" guest but I can say anything right now. If this happens, the day will be off the hook!!!
Mark
Munjibunga 05-25-2007, 03:29 PM There also may be one other "special" guest but I can say anything right now. If this happens, the day will be off the hook!!!

I'm really sorry, but I'm not going to be able to make it. Sorry guys.
west*coast*bass 05-25-2007, 06:10 PM I'm really sorry, but I'm not going to be able to make it. Sorry guys.
While it would be great to have the awesome Munji there, there is another "special" guest that may show...
I was hoping you could make it down Munji...I wanted to play those Sadowskys...

Stewmc5222 05-28-2007, 06:05 PM you gonna be at the get together, Jay? I'd love to check out some of your instruments!
:D
Stew
Munjibunga 05-29-2007, 11:24 PM Amazingly, it's beginning to look like I can make it. Any special requests for basses/amps? I was thinking Sads, Roscoe, Drozd and maybe the Yammer TRB5P-II. Perhaps the HeartRock/Quattro rig. Maybe DB750/GS410? You name it.
Stewmc5222 05-30-2007, 12:11 AM along the same lines, should I bring my amp? Demeter/Stewart/AccuGroove. just let me know...
FunkyLemz 05-30-2007, 03:39 AM I'm 99.368% in.
Carey 05-30-2007, 10:37 AM Maybe bring the db750 Munji. I have one also, but I suppose we don't need two, and I can bring an Epifani ul502 and a ul 2 x 12 instead. I'm riding with Stew, so I don't want to fill his car up with too much stuff. I'll already have at least one Nordy, the Goose, and maybe my old test bass...

I know exactly what you mean, Wally. I was doomed the moment I picked up the infamous Spruce Goose...
:crying: :p
still, it would have been cool to see you there.
we'll have to catch up one of these days, man! be well and my best to Lady Bo (must meet her, too!),
Stew
west*coast*bass 05-30-2007, 01:19 PM This is where we will be...
http://www.oraclepost.com/burbankstageone1.htm
Now, there will be keyboards set up in there as well as a drum kit. We may have to rotate the amp in as we want to try them but I know we will make it work.
This is coming together and it should be a great time.
Thanks all!
Mark

west*coast*bass 06-01-2007, 08:08 PM LA Get Together is tomorrow from 1-4 pm at Oracle Post in Burbank...

It should be a great turnout!

Mark
BassLand 06-02-2007, 02:20 PM Darn, I am in NY doing a video project with Mike Tobias and wont be back for two weeks... I will have to catch the next on.
RiddimKing 06-02-2007, 08:32 PM Let me be the first to say: it was AWESOME! Thanks Mark for your hospitality! And Tony for bringing cool gear, special just for me. It was great meeting you all. And now I am at home...depressed because of the depths of my bassplaying suckage, as evidenced by you all...damn you.
Cheers,
Jacques
jumbosilverette 06-02-2007, 09:07 PM Yeah, it was great. Bass players are a lot nicer than uke players, believe me. And I can't believe some of the gear these guys have. Geez. I never lusted after a $2,800 bass before, but I never picked up a Drozd until today. Great job, Mark. And oracle post is a great place.
Bassconbeatz 06-02-2007, 09:14 PM Sorry Mark for not makeing it. My boss (wifey), had me doing kid duties and also the honeydo list. It sounded like you guys had a blast.
beggar98 06-02-2007, 09:18 PM It was a great time. Mark, thanks for setting it up. Looking forward to pics being posted!
JSCHRO7376 06-02-2007, 09:55 PM Mark, you did an excellent job putting this together, I had a great time.
maurilio 06-02-2007, 11:37 PM Yep, definitely a great event!
Thanks a lot Mark for putting together this GTG and for the ospitality.
There was great gear and great guys!
Hope for another one soon :smug:

It was great to meet you all (that I could of course...lot of folks in that tiny room!). Miko, thanks for letting me fondle your Fodera...it's a beauty.
west*coast*bass 06-03-2007, 12:05 AM I want to thank all of you guys for coming out... I know that Tony (jtlee), Mike (Munjibunga) and Stew, Carey and Mike from Nordstrand all traveled quite a long way to join us, thanks guys! And thanks also for the Nordy representation!
It was a great surprise that Rufus Philpot made it...what a monster player!
Thanks to Jorg Schroeder for bringing down the new cabs for folks to check out, they sounded great.
I can't tell you how pleased I was with this turn out. I think next time we will need a bigger space or just plan the room a little better.
You guys are all awesome and cool to hang with, I sure didn't like that I had to leave early but the prom picture ordeal was successful.
I want to send a big shout out to my friend Jimmy Lifton for hosting the event, and my drummer Dave Crocco for joining us. Jimmy loves to get together and jam so anyone wanting to get in on an Oracle jam should contact me and I'll pass along Jimmy's info.
And thanks to Tony for taking pics and videos, I'll be posting mine as well on Tony's thread.
Thanks again guys, let's make a plan to do this again within the next 6 months!
Best to all,
Mark

HELLonWheels187 06-03-2007, 01:13 AM It was fun seeing all you guys in person. I had a good chat with Mike from Nordstrand. Who was that wicked Australian dude?
steve21 06-03-2007, 02:03 AM Thanks a whole ton for setting it all up Mark! Great time and lots of great guys.
Thanks for bringing the EBS gear and letting me try out your Sadowsky and Drozd, Munji. Absolutely amazing stuff.
As cool as checking out all the gear was, being able to watch the amazing musicians and talk to the guys about bass-nerd stuff was amazing too. Some awesome stuff going on all throughout, wish I coulda had a chance to meet everyone.
And Mark, that bass in your sig... although I didn't get to plug it in, was seriously one of the TOP most comfortable basses I've ever played. Major congrats on that one. :bassist:
Oh, and big thanks to the Oracle Post dudes. Killer place. As Austin said... everything just sounded GREAT there.

I agree, it was a great time. The bass in my avatar is my Matt Pulcinella Level 5 JJ and yes, it is the most comfortable bass I have played!
Thanks for coming out Steve!
The BurgerMeister 06-03-2007, 02:47 AM sorry i wasn't able to make it out... i ended up working a 13-hour day instead. :(

Mike's a great cat, isn't he?
are you talking about the guy who was just tearing up J-basses in the "pizza room"? he's actually British. his name is Rufus Philpot (http://www.rufusbass.com) and he's a pro player in L.A., known for intense fusion gigs like the Virgil Donati Group. an absolute monster and a very funny cat! that '65 J-bass he brought was a killer!
take it light,

Yah i really liked mike, he gave me a mini theory lesson. Does he have a TB name?
Yah I'm talking about Rufus. Also
what was Carey's cab. I really like it and my SWR is shot.

Mike does have a TB handle but I forgot what it is. maybe StoopidCooper but I'm not sure. and his theory knowledge is very cool. we geek out and talk theory a lot.
Rufus is insane but he gave me some great stuff to work on.
that rig we were all playing through was an Epifani. it's one of the set-ups we keep in the shop to test basses and pickups. did you get a chance to check out the weight on it? insane! it's light enough to lug around with one hand... easily!

I didn't get a chance to pick it up but I did see Rufus pick it up with one hand and he was very surprised. Do you which epifani cab it was. I looked through the site and I think it was a UL210. Either way it sound fantastic.
Stewmc5222 06-03-2007, 03:02 PM well, it's a 2 x 10" and it's ultralight so the UL210 sounds good to me!

Stewmc5222 06-03-2007, 03:53 PM ahhh the wonder's of logical deduction.
BTW: Where is Norstrand Located?
the shop is located about 80 miles east of L.A., out in the high desert. we're about half way between San Bernardino and Palm Springs. depending upon the day and time the drive is usually around an hour and a half or 2 hours. I'm in L.A. most weekends with rehearsals or gigs so I'm intimately familiar with the commute!
:p
BassLand 08-17-2009, 08:07 AM I am interested in attending. Keep us posted.
Stewmc5222 08-17-2009, 10:52 AM where are you thinking of having it, Miko?
maybe I can talk the Nordstrand crew into making it out.
;) :bassist:
YCBass 08-17-2009, 01:01 PM I'm there... If it's on a weekend.
I'm sure this has been mentioned before in this thread... But to SoCal Bass Hang is on for Oct. 3 as well.
Mazatleco17 08-17-2009, 01:17 PM Cool, hopefully it will be on a weekend.
Stewmc5222 08-17-2009, 02:28 PM which makes it more likely that I can attend.
but I repeat: where are you thinking of hosting this.
