This is a search-engine-friendly text mirror of the TalkBass Forums BrandonBass 12-27-2006, 04:16 AM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVB-qcLQWas who says guitarists cant play bass? nysbob 12-27-2006, 08:42 AM If your idea of playing bass is slapping through an envelope filter, yeah, he's dyn-o-mite. :eyebrow: bryan bailey 12-27-2006, 11:53 AM But can you play that? Sometimes tells me not so much. war_n_peace 12-27-2006, 12:08 PM Here's another Guitar Player who plays Fretless Bass pretty darn good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__TjjM5zYSU nysbob 12-27-2006, 12:19 PM I play with some guitarists who also are great bass players. A good musician is a good musician - you can pick up more than one discipline. Buckethead is fine guitarist, incidentally - I just couldn't really tell much of anything bass-wise from that clip. dannoman 12-27-2006, 03:10 PM No, this is a sick bassist...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GAncpN3hDk&mode=related&search= jsbass 12-27-2006, 04:34 PM LOL, that kid's bass isn't even in tune. It's one thing to try to play but atleast tune your damn bass. Christopher 12-28-2006, 05:19 PM Is there anything this guy can't do? Other than show his face? nysbob 12-28-2006, 06:08 PM No, this is a sick bassist...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GAncpN3hDk&mode=related&search= Nice to see he isn't letting those ring and pinky fingers get in the way. Interesting technique. :eyebrow: Trevorus 12-28-2006, 06:10 PM With the buckethead one, all I heard was WANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWA NKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANK WANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWA NKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANK WANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANK And the other kid... Some things should not be immortalized by a recording. Matthew Bryson 12-28-2006, 06:39 PM Even on bass, good 'ol Bucket manages to make heavy use the most horribly un-musical effects he can find. I'd rather hear music that sounds like music than music that sounds like monsters and robots. I always hate Bucket Heads tone. He is talented and fast, just not my cup 'o tea. Basshole 12-28-2006, 06:43 PM Nah, ya know what? I'm pretty anti-wankery, and I thought that was pretty damn OK. Buckethead rules. Brad Johnson 12-28-2006, 07:00 PM As seen at every NAMM show... :D And music store, jam session, etc. I was just discussing this with some musician friends today. Some people are into really dense, whole lotta notes played in a repetious manner playing ... and predictably impressing other people who play that same instrument. OTOH some others get bored by repetitious stuff like this. Learn a trick, work it up to speed, whip it out. Okay... now what? NEXT LICK!!!:hyper: I remember seeing a guy at a Bass Day a few years back draw a crowd as he played a similar lick for at least five minutes. He drew a crowd of bass players and continued to play that same lick. They loved it. I thought it was pretty funny. Excuse me while I whip this out...!!! I'm such a snob. Muusers 12-29-2006, 09:31 AM No, this is a sick bassist...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GAncpN3hDk&mode=related&search= ROFLMFAO thanks for the laugh:D zombywoof5050 12-29-2006, 09:35 AM Nice to see he isn't letting those ring and pinky fingers get in the way. Interesting technique. :eyebrow:Inspired by Django, perhaps? mvw356 12-29-2006, 10:42 AM he seems to play bass like he plays the guitar, a lot of notes in avery short period of time. where is the music? julo 12-29-2006, 12:16 PM Inspired by Django, perhaps? Or he's inspired by Jamerson, who only used one finger to pluck... well he found his way with just 2 fingers. BrandonBass 12-29-2006, 12:37 PM u guys complain too much... buckethead prolly just wanna show off, and its proof that hes got some bass chops...you guys are just mad hes better than you. and yeah so what if you can play some slow melodic bassline? Buckethead can prolly do that if he wanted to. Brad Johnson 12-29-2006, 03:23 PM u guys complain too much... buckethead prolly just wanna show off, and its proof that hes got some bass chops...you guys are just mad hes better than you. yeah, that's it... I'm jealous. :D and yeah so what if you can play some slow melodic bassline? Buckethead can prolly do that if he wanted to. And he can prolly cure cancer tomorrow. I'm jealous of that too. geshel 12-29-2006, 07:42 PM The Buckethead clip is nice, I like it more than most of his guitar playing. It's a little whackety but it's really solid. the_fonz 12-29-2006, 08:07 PM i liked it. but i think that's because of my auto-wah fetish TheButler 12-29-2006, 08:12 PM Maybe it is not actually buckethead but some sort of imitator after all you only need a KFC family size bucket, a white mask and some long hair oh and not forgetting an amazing talent for 'wankery'. However, i shamefully admit i am impressed and found it relatively catchy in a strange repetitive way ... Sane 12-30-2006, 07:54 AM Bucketheads .... well Buckethead, Bass playing not much different then his guitar playing. I keep a special set of wankery goggles by my desk that I put on any time I see Buckethead. This way I enjoy him for what he does, rather then what others do different studentaccount1 12-30-2006, 09:13 AM Buckethead, Second only to Joey "Jesus" DeMaio Sean S 12-30-2006, 11:02 AM Did he learn to play from Les or something? ;) ALiP BoB 12-30-2006, 11:10 AM With the buckethead one, all I heard was WANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWA NKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANK WANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWA NKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANK WANKWANKWANKWANKWANKWANK And the other kid... Some things should not be immortalized by a recording. Yea, kinda like flapping a solid plastic or something starchy. El-Bob 12-30-2006, 01:28 PM Buckethead is great, and probably better than any of us on TB, so stop being jealous:spit: EricTheEZ1 12-31-2006, 05:21 PM Did he learn to play from Les or something? ;) I know we are getting into personal preference here, but that was a stupid statement if you are being serious. Les Claypool is an incredible bassist. His songs feature bass and the lead instrument so they will contain some wanking but he's also created music so good that many others are compared to it. Primus is practically a musical genre at this point. -Eric. Brad Johnson 01-01-2007, 05:33 PM Buckethead is great, and probably better than any of us on TB, so stop being jealous:spit: You need to get out more. Seriously. Prahainspring 01-01-2007, 06:35 PM Not very interesting, much like most high speed slap solos. Buckethead is a killer player but tends to go overboard... a lot. Before writing him off, I seriously suggest his playing with Jonas Hellborg and Michael Shrieve on the album, "Octave of the Holy Innocents". He is playing acoustic guitar so it's about as bare bones as you can get. iamlowsound 01-01-2007, 07:34 PM Buckethead does a lot more than just wank. There are plenty of songs and even entire cds that he has where he doesn't do anything "wankish". Not only that he is credited with playing bass on most of his cds as well, the guy that tours with his band doesn't play bass on the cds. lowsound |
