I have a couple of Squier Affinity P-basses. I've been reading some Dan Erlewine articles, he recommends cleaning and Vaselining your nuts (insert dumb joke here!). Mine is accessed through that hole in the headstock-under the nut kinda setup. If I loosen mine up all the way, will I be able to get the nut out of that little access hole? Looks a little tight, I don't want run it all the way off and then not be able to remove it or get it threaded back on. I know, you always hear "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but I'd like to get a little lube on those trussrods. Thanks for any help, love this forum!

Yeah, it'll come out - after all, it went in there, didn't it??? Make sure you loosen the strings all the way, 1st - and take it slow tightening it back up - you don't want to backbow, or overbow the neck with string tension, or a lack thereof...

It should come out pretty easy. Sometimes they're a little tight and you may need a magnet or something to pull it right out, but I've seldom had any real problems. When you reinstal it, be careful starting it so that you don't accidentally cross thread the thing. Otherwise, it's easy. When I do that I always put a couple small washers on the rod before putting the nut back on as I know, with time, the wood will compress and It saves trouble later. If you do this, make sure the washers are small enough to fit the hole with room to spare. It's not essential to put washers on if you already have lots of adjistment room on the truss rod.
